The US doesnt recognise Mental Health Nursing. It would be better to get into Nursing school in the states. You would have an advantage.

The NHS is such a terrible place to work these days. If you are sick you are sent to a disciplinary. Its funny in England we think we have the right to threaten people back to the workplace even when genuinely sick

Well to those of you who have S O, you are very lucky. When I have bad days at work, it just me. I have nobody to share or vent with at the end of the day.

Most nurses are professional. The female nurses you are working with sound very unprofessional. What type of clinical setting do you work in lol may I ask.

I think there is another dynamic to this topic. When we think of professionalisim we tend to think of registered nurses. I have always believed there has always been this war between qualified and unqualified staff. By that I mean CNAs and RNs with each the latter thinking and feeling they can do the job better than the RNs. Sometimes people are denied opportunities to advance and further themselves - i.e I am pretty certain there are a vast majority of CNAs who could have gone on to become RNs - but for whatever reason what not given the opportunity to do so either through circumstance or whatever. After a while people can be overcome with disappointment and bitterness and may take their anger, jealousy and bitterness out on others the classic example can be an older CNA who may resent a newly qualified graduate nurse who has a BN. They may feel hurt and pain and anger that someone else had the opportunity to better themselves yet they didnt, which manifests itself in unprofessional behaviour. I am not saying that all older CNAs behave in this way towards newly qualified graduates. Another example is when a nurse has higher qualifications or is dual qualifed but is working in an enviornment where the majority of nurses may be for example ADN trained and you may be that nurse who has their BSN or even their MSN. So it goes on and on. Again the roots of unprofessional behaviour can often be found in professional jealousy.

I always prefer to work with men. I find women can exhibit some incidious behaviour at times. The professiona has become too dominated by females.

I just disagree patients sexual needs are simply NOT important when their mental state has deteriorated to the point they do NOT know what they are doing

To me sex is secondary - the main concern is to get a patient to concord with their medication and see the value of taking their medication in order for them to live with their mental illness and the symptoms they have with it. The important thing to me is to get a patient to manage their lives successfully and understand the importance of looking after themselves. Sexual need is secondary

Look why are people so down on this poster for quitting their job? What happened there was it abuse of patients that was witnesses or overall poor nursing care? What??

This is the problem the minute you get married or committ to a serious relationship, it seems as if wanting a career etc should go out the window. Thats why I am reluctant to get married or even have children. I dont want any man coming into my life and ruining it by being selfish if I want a career.

Hey just wanted to add, why should u have to consider non-clinical nursing roles if direct patient care is what you want!:)

I think its wonderful to see men entering the nursing profession. Why should we make a big deal about an African American man going into nursing?? - I cant see the hype about that. Its good that black men are thinking of entering the nursing field period. as you Americans like to say on their sentences lol. I mean no offense by that statement by the way.

I have always said I dont like working with other women, I cant stand female nurses. I feel more comfortable nursing and working with men. Give me an ideal job where I am the only female working with men. I love it.

Once again I say to the original poster YOU did the right thing. Supposed you had turned up for a shift one night - the management were becoming suspicious about drugs going missing and YOU happened to be that poor unfortunate nurse that night? Just imagine if you had been set up by this nurse whose problem (would have gone on) - You have worked HARD to be a registered, got your NCLEX etc, no you have to fight to keep it my dear. If that nurse wants to discredit herself - let her go ahead. Sometimes we do what is RIGHT not what makes us popular. :)

Dont feel bad, If bad practice is going on it needs to be challenged and stopped. Supposing it had gone for a long time, that nurse could have implicated you. You did the right thing. Its not nice to tell on a colleague but YOU had to - paitent safety was potentially at risk!

Its always daunting when you start a new job as a Registered Nurse. When you go to a team that is established, its like initially YOU have to try and fit in and get to know the dynamics of the team. You have to know who is approachable, who is shirker (the one who never seems to do their job), the one who is on the management side etc, all sorts of characters. As for perception of older nurses eating their young - that is NOT always true, sometimes those whom are the same age etc may eat their young. I.E more experienced vs the newly qualified who may not be confident. Also if you are friendly, polite then people wont unapproachable to you. Sometimes if people seem reluctant to help you - it could be that THEY are lacking in confidence at times. I have seen it with experienced nurses - who maybe experience a lack of confidence at times - maybe a clinical situation as exposed their weakness in that particular area etc. Its not always about not wanting to help.

I thought about that, but then I thought would I need recent RGN experience as proof on my application. I know the question may seem silly, I wasnt sure. I was going to apply through the university body - the national one, cause I feel that that extra would be of benefit to me.

i think its crazy that men are not allowed to utilise their skills in clinical areas where they come across female patients. If a patient is ill (british word for unwell) then when its an emergency situation or in an ITU unit does really matter if the nurse has a member or lady parts?? does it?? Gosh its so ridiculous. Lets not forget men have qualities which can be useful in the nursing profession also. Trust me Its nice to have a bit of testosterone in nursing. Too much oestrogen can kill any working enviornment never mind what speciality! :)

When it comes to my career I dont let boyfriends get in the way. At the end of the day you will always have a nursing career, but boyfriends come and go. I had a situation once were I was in a relationship and my ex wanted me to give up my career! Can you believe it! I refused and to this day he resents me bitterly. Do I care - do I give a **** - nope!

How do you get into midwifrey as an RGN/RMN. I really want to retrain. Want to draw a line under mental health nursing.
