  1. Distance learning-DNP

I'm so sorry you feel that way! I've never had a bad experience with any of my classmates- diploma, RN to BSN, MSN-FNP. My classmates enhanced my learning, especially in the BSN and MSN portions. We all brought different strengths to the table and ea...
  2. Distance learning-DNP

Do you get to know your "classmates" when you're in distance learning? Having strong relationships with my cohorts has always affected my ability to see things more clearly and from other points of view. Are you able to make collegial friendships wh...
  3. I am so upset, please help me.

Ok, I know I took Micro 100 years ago but I don't remember writing any papers for that class. Why are you writing papers?? Are they testing you as well?
  4. The human side of nursing in the holding room?

Jan, I had surgery in 2005 and found the same thing in the holding area. I was really anxious and scared and the nursing staff was oblivious. The one good experience I had was with a student CRNA who was so patient and kind. He spent a lot of time ...

  6. Clinical experience before FNP

When I was in my FNP program, the students who seemed to have the easiest time were the ER nurses. If you have an opportunity to work in the ER, I'd recommend you consider that position.
  7. And the moral of this story, ladies and gentlemen, is NEVER, EVER let your license lapse even if you happen to win the lottery and plan to never work as a nurse again. You just never know what might happen..... Seriously though, I can't even imagine ...
  8. I love nursing but hate NP school

I do think we had good classes and great clinical sites. Personally, I learn by doing and my years of experience as a RN were invaluable. I have a really hard time with those programs that say that a new RN can go directly into a NP program. No one ...
  9. I love nursing but hate NP school

  12. What's so bad about working for the VA?

I'm sure someone will come along and give you a more balanced view of working for the VA, but I'm going to give you all the positives because I love it!! If you love to learn, this is the place for you. Our patients span from 18 to 100+ in age and th...

  14. Update on Transgender nursing Student

Hi Transgender, I've followed your threads with interest because I am a graduate of the school you are now leaving. I had hoped that the attitudes of the school's PTB had progressed over time and that you would be allowed to transition without con...

  16. Do You Wear a Lab coat?

Ditto to what Firefighting RN said...three very good points. As for the alphabet soup after my name, I limit the initials so they don't run underneath my arm!
  17. Organ donation process? My Mom was the donor.

DaisyChains, I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my dad recently and I am just now looking back at the details of his death since the fog of the situation is just now lifting. I have no idea what the dark liquid was they gave your mom. Maybe someone...
  18. Is it true that a BSN will be mandatory soon?

Yes, I realize we've heard this song and dance for decades. I originally graduated from a diploma school and the 1985 proposal was all the talk when I was in school. However, this seemed like (from the article) it may actually have some momentum.
  19. Is it true that a BSN will be mandatory soon?

Did anyone read the article in American Nurse Today regarding this? It seems the ANA has developed a model bill crafted after bills by the New York and New Jersey Nursing Associations requiring RNs to have a BSN by 10 years after initial licensure. T...

  22. Family Practice Prior to NP

I think being a clinic nurse for a family practice MD or group would be a good segway into becoming a FNP, but the students in my cohort that did the best and had the easiest transition were the ER nurses.
