  1. Pima Medical Institute (PMI) -- fair warning

Was it an instructor or an advisor? I can tell you, my instructors are REAL NURSES and have been for YEEEAAAAARRRRRSSSSS. In fact, you're not allowed to be an instructor unless you have a Masters in Nursing. I am really enjoying the school, but I did...
  2. My thought was if you don't like sick adults, what about the laboring moms? Sure, they may not be sick, but they still need a high level of care. I'm with you in that I want L&D and Peds, I thought I would LOATHE med-surg, but I actually kind of ...
  3. Help with Test Questions!!

Along with the above suggestions, I would also suggest learning how to read what the question is asking. Overly simple, right? NOT AT ALL! I read the question, look at the answers, then go back and reread the question and break it down by what it is ...
  4. Well, although I am being a smart alec here, is it considered disrespectful to go rummaging through someone's drawers without permission? On the serious side, it's typically a good idea to go with the more simple need when it comes to Maslow, especia...
  5. Did you ENJOY nursing school?

Like others have said, school is what you make of it. I am having a BLAST! It's harder than Hell, but I love it. Others in my class are completely miserable and are second guessing their decision to go, but are sticking it out. If you have decent tim...
  6. Grow Brave Through Reflection: Moral Distress in PICU (Part I)

What a great article! I am currently a student, and PICU is one area I feel drawn to. (I'll be able to better know about how drawn to Peds in general at the end of this semester, as Peds is my next clinical rotation.) I cannot wait to read your upcom...
  7. So my latest med-surg clinical rotation has a psychosocial focus. I have been peeling my brain apart for a couple hours now trying to figure out a psych DX for a patient who has ZERO psych issues at the time. Background to help you: 81 yo male, had a...
  8. Brookline College Accelerated Nursing Program

Or...you can get decent grades. My school is the same way with the grades. I'm hanging in with a solid 3.5. In fact, most schools I looked at attending (a majority out of state) hold the same requirements for their grades.
  9. No offense, but I am VERY glad I didn't attend your school. OUCH! :-( I may be paying out the rear for my degree, but we're treated with quite a bit of respect, and are expected to do the same in return.
  10. Why did I decide to do this?

I've just learned to feel as if I am treading water. I have streamlined a few school related things, and have figured out which classes I can study the powerpoints on for tests, and which ones I can answer all the summary questions throughout a chapt...
  11. Would you sacrifice to be able to go to nursing school

Sacrifice for now...when you graduate you'll be able to support the kids that are left at home AND yourself. It'll be hard in the interim, but once the goal is met, it'll be worth it. Good luck, and I'm sorry you found one of "those."
  12. I took A&P online and really enjoyed it. And yes, I learned a LOT too. However, I made sure to spend a LOT of time studying. You get out of online classes what you put into them, and the instructors also know who's putting in the time.
  13. Got a job!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! (And DOUBLY so for not getting basic med-surg. LOL) And THIS student believes you when you say it flies by quickly. I'm amazed at how fast it's flying by.
  14. Med sur help

Also, for the acid-base balance...there is an AWESOME thread here that helped me a TON. Just do a search for it and it'll pop up. It was started about 4 years ago, but still just as relevant.
  15. I need some help. strategies?

    Think psychosocial...
  16. Who else uses them? I've noticed over my RN student career that a lot of my instructors LOVE test bank questions, and so many of them come from the CDs that are attached in the book. BIG HINT there for a lot of you struggling. What I REALLY like is t...
  17. We were taught how to do dimensional analysis. It's EASY as pie and MUCH easier to catch your mistakes with when you end up with a funky answer. (It allows you to see all of your work.) If you Google it, you'll freak because I have yet to find a webs...
  18. CDs that come with the books...

Hey Arctic...have you tried looking into the international editions of your books? I used to buy them all the time and they were always the same, with the exception of the picture on the cover. (Then you'd have the cds to use.) Also, go to the publis...
  19. New Nursing Student- Anxiety?

Yup...and be prepared to learn to live with some degree of anxiety while you're in school. It's totally normal. That being said, if you let it, school can be FUN! As much as doing all of this makes me anxious, I also love it because I am have a good...
  20. does a school with no wait list exist in AZ?

There's only one campus for Central Az. It's just outside of Coolidge. I have a friend who's starting her RN program there in the Fall and also said there's no waitlist. However, those who live in Pinal County are given precedence, and I don't know h...
  21. I definitely would not call it Mickey Mouse, but yeah, NOT what it was made out to be. The hardest part is figuring out how to answer the NCLEX style questions on the exams and quizzes. I do all my reading too, which is time consuming. (There have be...
  22. You're LUCKY you're getting to do that on your second day of clinical! As others have already said, stop beating yourself up. Head to the lab if you can, and practice. (Although what we have to practice on is NOTHING like actual skin. I like the ide...
  23. What are your personal perceptions.....

I'm with Always Learning...there is still health promotion for the dying patient. There is still the psychosocial aspect to deal with, along with keeping the pt from needless suffering. For instance, if the dying pt had a trach, would we still perfor...
  24. Anyone worried b/c you did RN and not BSN?

I don't regret it at all. Not many hospitals here require the BSN upon hiring. I also plan on doing a bridge program so that I am able to a CNM. I figured I would take the quickest way to getting a job, then I'd be able to afford to live while attend...
  25. Shoes?

I have a pair of plain white, leather Sketchers. They are by far the most comfortable of the three pair I have bought for school. (I also have Danskos and NurseMates....)
