    Drawing blood

That large of a syringe will create too much of a vacuum and cause gross hemolysis. 10cc is the largest syringe I'd attach to a butterfly needle.

    Obscure OB uses for D10?

G6PD is an enzyme deficiency "Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase" Leads to the premature destruction of red blood cells. Most common among African and Middle Eastern males. My guess would be some sort of fatty acid oxidation disorder as to why you wou...

    Med error?

That extra 80mL of fluid isn't going to clinically make a bit of difference.

    ADN/BSN Question

No. A nurse is a licensed professional.
  7. I would have given the med policy or not. Neither metoprolol nor labetolol have that profound effect on heart rate and blood pressure that would warrant the patient being on anything other than a basic Telemetry floor. Take a baseline HR and BP, give...

Best vein finder other than your index finger is an ultrasound machine.

    CEU's in Ohio?

If it is your first renewal after licensure by exam (IE new grad that took the NCLEX in March 2015 or later) then you don't need any CEU's.

Injecting into a cannula; does syringe size matter?

The INS recommends using a syringe sized appropriately for the volume of medication being infused even with CVCs. The only difference with CVCs is that you verify patency first with a 10cc syringe and then use whatever size syringe best matches the v...

    Triphonines

I go intracardiac with a nice long about 5" 14 gauge needle whenever I have to draw triphonines. Only amateurs use the internal jugular.

Cleveland Clinic - New Graduate Nurse Advice

Depends on the unit, the people you work with, and your ANM's.

What gauge needle for subq heparin do you use?

LOL depends on whether or not I like the patient. When I worked in-patient I'd use a TB syringe and needle if they were stocked. Otherwise it was a 1/2" 25 gauge needle. Which is what was readily available.

10 year old died after I performed CPR

Something like 96% of kids who arrest outside of a hospital die. Nothing can be done. You did the best you could given the circumstances and what you had available.

    How to learn telemetry?

Rhythm interpretation which is what nurses do when looking at telemetry strips is a part of basic pre licensure RN education.

    Vtach

V-Tach that starts and doesn't stop is concerning, or a patient that is in VT more than he/she is not in VT is concerning. Short Non-Sustained runs of VT are generally not of any particular concern if the patient is otherwise not symptomatic.
  21. These bands if they are going to bleed will bleed when bleed when you completely deflate the balloon and then try to separate the balloon part from the skin where the sweat, oils, and dried blood make it adhere to the skin. I've never had a band blee...

    EKG reading and leads

Basic RN education and ACLS teach basic rhythm interpretation not 12+ lead EKG interpretation. Expert level EKG interpretation takes years of post graduate education.

Is learning on a cheap stethoscope better?

Doesn't matter what you are using. You need to know how to use it and know what the hell you are hearing with it.

    CCRN

I literally just showed up for the test. Didn't study or prepare at all and scored a 117 on the exam. It is not that hard of an exam just use common sense.
