  1. Neonatal NP advice

Why don't you start out in pediatrics, pediatric i.c.u, labor & delivery, or newborn nursery? Those are great paths to head down if you want to be a NICU nurse! Labor & Delivery, newborn nursery, and NICU are like sister specialties. They're ...
  2. I think we should have a license to practice in all 50 states. I think it's quite silly for it to be issued by state. The licensing exam we take is national, the license we receive should be. It's way too much to go from one state to another trying t...
  3. I feel like nursing is not my thing...

It's okay we all have those days and your mistakes weren't life threatening. Use it as a learning experience. Don't be so quick to quit or say it's not for you only because of one bad shift. I'm pretty sure this isn't the last bad shift you're going ...
  4. I just found out about an hour ago that I passed Nclex-RN!!!! I'm so happy. For a second there I thought I wasn't gonna make it. Just want to give some advice to the future nclex takers: 1- I freaked out when I realized my exam didn't shut off at 75 ...
  5. You're chances of finding employment are probably a lot better than a new grad with no experience. The job market here is tough overall. There simply isn't enough jobs to go around and employers are becoming extremely choosy when it comes to who they...
  6. Crunch is right, they give people false reassurances all of the time. I guess it eliminates an awkward moment of saying "thanks for this interview but I'm not sure about you as a candidate". It's much easier to say "we'll keep in touch". You are expe...
  7. 1st job-advice please!

Hi guys, I don't post much on here but I really need advice from fellow nurses. I started my first job as an RN a couple months ago in an LTC setting and while I think I'm doing pretty good job, I really need advice about how to deal with my unit. I ...
  8. 1st job-advice please!

Many times I have said the same to myself, but with the job market the way it is, I should be kissing the floor & thankful that I have a job, especially as a new grad. Thanks for response though.
  9. Mount Sinai.....Getting a foot in the door

People need to keep in mind that it is all about who you know. If you don't know anyone at Mt Sinai to help you get in, chances are slim. Recruiters do not call you back. I was given an interview at Mt Sinai by a recruiter, he took my transcript, tol...
  10. In addition to what others have mentioned, the laws that govern nursing vary from state to state.
  11. RN new graduate finding jobs in new york

    Do you have a BSN?
  12. 9-5 no w/e RN jobs and salary

Nursing homes are going to make you work weekends. As a new grad, you don't really have the luxury of being picky since there are no jobs as it is out here. The ones with hours like you mentioned are usually for leadership/mgmt positions and those wh...
  13. I went to the same career fair a year ago, and it really was a waste of time. Like the others said, a lot of the exhibitors show up only to tell you to go online and apply. Others shoo you away once they find out that you're a new grad. That health ...
  14. SICK OF BEING A LPN

Hate to break it to ya, but RNs go through the same exact thing you're venting about. Having the letters RN after your name doesn't magically give you all of the respect you think you deserve. *sigh* Stay positive, increase your knowledge so you can ...
  15. I agree with everyone else. Seriously, I know where you're coming from and you may not want to hear this but there are people who are in worst situations. Some have been looking for 1 yr to 18 months and no job yet. Look on the bright side, you passe...
  16. Agencies with vaccine jobs

I know flu season is right around the corner and I'm interested in working in a clinic or office administering vaccines. Does anyone know of any agencies with these types of positions? I am a new grad. Thank you in advance for all those who contribu...
  17. Mount Sinai - NY - RN jobs

The recruiter told me they don't even look at online apps. But in order to be considered for a position you have to have your online app filled out so they have the info they need for background check, references, etc. Good luck!
  18. North Shore University RN Fellowship? Input needed!

anyone currently in the interviewing process? did they select candidates for the september class already?
  19. Another nurse bites the dust due to facebook

I think part of the problem is, is that people are often friends on facebook with people who are NOT their friends. In order for your employer to take disciplinary action for something you wrote on facebook, someone had to alert them. If your page is...
  20. Attn: All liu-brooklyn bsn students and recent grads

Sorry, I beg to differ. Those of us who graduated, did not get by just because we were liked and professors passed us only because they wanted to pass us. They passed us because we earned passing grades. If you pass all your exams, no one is going to...
  21. Mount Sinai - NY - RN jobs

I only interviewed with recruitment. I'm waiting for a unit with a position that I can interview with the nurse manager for.
  22. I'm confused, you said you graduated in May with an ADN, now you're saying you have a 4 yr degree.........
  23. Mount Sinai - NY - RN jobs

I would also like to know if anyone got hired recently (especially new grads) I'm a new grad, I interviewed in May, still waiting to be placed on a unit.
  24. You must've read my post incorrectly because I wasn't referencing you. I was referencing the two other people and the way in which in they spoke to me. If you misunderstood me, then my apologies.
  25. I'm not whining. I said they offered me $20/hr and I didn't take it. Two other people decided to jump on my back and berate me for not taking it. I defended myself. That's all I did. I never not once whined or complained about not having a job.
