  1. bloody sputum

The lung is being smashed...The capillaries would be smashed too which would create quite a lot of pressure--blood would leak. Bingo... bloody sputum.
  2. bloody sputum

The question should have been asked when the patient exhibited the signs, and not when one is home. Why would the patient not have bloody sputum?
  3. Am I Being Unreasonable?

LOL... Where did you interview for this company? You should have known that there would be this kind of issue. My goodness!
  4. What would u do?

I am sick and tired of DONs who become DONs to bully and harass the staff. They are suppose to make the work environment conducive for providing optimal patient care. Oh... I guess that is why I would not be asked to be a DON.
  5. Nurse Distractions and Med Errors please share input

One medication error, which was caught prior to the administration of the IV push medication, occurred when two nurses were attending to the same patient. One nurse was taking care of the scheduled dose of a medication, and another nurse had placed a...
  6. Lasix

As one progresses in the understanding of the disease process of CHF, one will begin to understand the reason for the respiratory effects. Lasix is for edema. What is edema? Excess fluid which has leaked out of the vascular system (capillaries.) One ...
  7. Someone signing "RN" when they are not

If you have seen the signature in person with the initials... Report her again!
  8. Previous employer making slanderous statements

Absolutely not... Unless the comment have been made in front of you!
  9. Had a Brain-fart on this one....

This lady is not right on soooooo many levels!
  10. Charting every 2 hours?

Did they specify what they wished to be charted? It is not that you are not checking in on these patient on a regular basis, but the charting would not reflect this fact unless one charts. This may be driven from another source, not just the ER manag...
  11. Rude Doctor!

Ummm. It seems he just a "blow hard" who wants to be noticed. It will only take one nurse to return fire, and this guy:yawn: will be done with his power trip. I have seen it more than once!
  12. when did they stop wearing those cute nurses caps?

I have a textbook which featured photos of female nurses with the full uniform, which has a copyright year of 1983. In the late 1980's, I believe was the phasing of the cap, and more of the colorful tops. I do know of one nurse at our hospital, who i...
  13. Mistakes at work.

On a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is the most severe. I would give this incident a 0.1. If the other nurses were laughing, they likely were thinking how embarrassing it would be, and not thinking you were a complete idiot:lol2:. Being new one will fin...
  14. Feeling really REALLY stupid about clinicals

I believe everyone can relate to how you are feeling at one time or another, and some weeks all the time. I believe some of the problem could be communication. If the expectations were not presented very well, then problems will inevitably will prese...
  15. Fever and dying

What could be an interest for you... research what cause of a fever. One will find a lot of clinical scenarios which will produce a fever. Once you understand the mechanism, you will have a better idea of the "why":yeah:
  16. Nurses Who Can't Add Cost Lives.

Nurses who can't add cost lives? What about nurses who do not know how to do a full assessment? What about a nurse who neglects to advise the next shift about unusual bleeding? What about a nurse who doesn't realize a low RBC count needs addressed ...
  17. Interview next week...need advice

How do you know if this was the factor? It could have been the fact they had another applicant who happened to be related to some hospital staff member, or the other applicant could answer none of the questions?
  18. RANT ON: I am so sick of the BS in LTC!

I agree with the above post. I would also add.......physicians should audit their prescribed medication list for individual patients:uhoh3: on a regular basis. Polypharmacy is an issue which really needs addressed.
  19. Petrified when handling residents that expire...

This phobia is no different than others. It can be dealt with overtime.
  20. Is everything really the nurses fault?

I can see the cardiologist point. Labs and calling the physician for orders is the responsibility of the nurse. I do believe the physicians have no idea what the nurses deal with on a day-to-day basis, nor do the nurses really know what the physician...
  21. Funny things patients have said

I am a male nurse and I was assisting a female dementia patient with cutting the roast beef on her plate. She insisted I take a few bites of the cut meat and added "my wife will cut-me-off if she knew I was eating her good tasting food."
  22. On a serious note: If this is a life-altering decision, you might check in with people you know and trust. Seeking advice from individuals on website for such decisions just seems ridiculous:uhoh3:.
  23. So frustrated and depressed

You need to calm down and have some dip... The world does not revolve around you! You are nothing but a drama queen. If you are going into the Navy, you better get over this attitude quick or you will not make it!
  24. Petrified when handling residents that expire...

I am not sure what goes through your mind when presented with this situation. This may require some expert assistance to enable you to work through. I do not think less of you, and I believe you can get through this and find great peace when working...
  25. OH MY GOODNESS!

I feel your pain. Believe me you know more than those test scores show. Just remember it is only two test... things will clear up in the end.
