  1. Question about first part of LPN school

I thought the same thing at the beginning of my program. I was very annoyed with the first semester, but it will get better... just hang in there. The pace will pick up, just read ahead and take in all you can, because it will turn into a fast pace...
  2. ALFIE QUESTION

See it all the time. Didn't think it was unusual....
  3. No, my school told us to sign up with pearsonvue then the BON for the state. The state gives you your ATT and ok's you to test with pearsonvue. You should go talk to your school.... My school actually gave us a test to make sure that we knew the c...
  4. Hmmmm.... a little weird. Putting the money at risk? Sounds weird.
  5. It shouldn't take any longer than 2-3 weeks. They do a background check, and if yours is ok, it will come through the mail. Then you go on the website and pick your test date and center.
  6. I would hope not... call your school and ask them about pearsonvue....
  7. What state is this in? I would sit on hold all day just to make sure that they received the necessary paperwork. The US postal service is not 100% reliable all the time. You should call and make sure they even received the information!!!!
  8. Questions about working PRN

I am a PRN employee at a LTC/ALF... I give them my schedule a month in advance.... I have full availability. They circle the days they need me, and I'm expected to work that day. I think that's the way it should be in most facilities. Make sure th...
  9. I graduated July 10th, (it was a Friday), and I was able to sign up for my boards through pearsonvue on Monday.... Are you not scheduling your boards through pearsonvue? You should look into that... most schools use their testing centers. They send...
  10. Does Anyone From Your LTC/SNF Meet Patients Prior To Admission?

Same as yours. No one sees the patients before admission.... It would be nice though in a perfect world!
  11. DEA States that LTC Nurses Are No Longer Agents Of The Prescribers

Well, there are 4 big hospitals in this area.... kinda hard to get them on board with our facility and our policy. It happened last night, and the patient ended up getting Vicodin instead. Still think it's crap though. Thanks for the suggestion!
  12. DEA States that LTC Nurses Are No Longer Agents Of The Prescribers

Ha, I thought this was just my facility.... guess not. First of all, this is quite ridiculous. Second of all, we just had an inservice on this. Every nurse got a paper on how to handle this situation... on one of the bulletins it says "Nurses can ...
  13. I've only cried once...

LTC facilities need more nurses like YOU! I also, work in a SNF/ALF... I feel the same way about the residents as you do. Can't imagine when the day comes when one of my "favorites" expires! I can't imagine working in any other place right now......
  14. Doula LPN....

I know some hospitals hire LPN's for postpartum....
  15. Lets get a current salary thread going for 09/10

New grad July- $21 first shift, $24 second shift, $27 third shift, PRN no benefits, Florida
  16. Starting LPN job..new grad

This is how a typical day for a 3-11 would go for me.... Come to work, get report, count narcs. Then, go through the MAR and see which patient's need blood sugars ASAP! If they are in therapy/activities then you have time to track them down before...
  17. Hospital Rejects Birth Plans

Aren't these methods something your provider should discuss with you before you plan on delivering with them? It's a shame that they don't take more time with the patient to figure out what their plan of action is going to be on their big day.
  18. obnoxious OB

Whoa! Was the GBS status even confirmed? I hope she was negative. And why did he want to break her water so early in the AM? Can't you have him written up for not following protocol? I mean, there wasn't an IV site, and what if there was, and it...
  19. True or false.....eager to know

It depends on the state and the facility. My facility would not hire me as a GPN. Florida.
  20. Assisted Living Nursing

I hated the ALF/SNF when I was in school during clinicals. Now I love it!!!! After getting to know the residents, they aren't just patients.... That is there home, and where they live. I want them to feel comfortable in their home, and love gettin...
  21. The Unit of The Bitter and ****** Nurses

Any possibility of a transfer to another unit? If so, get out ASAP!!!!
  22. Please use some common sense on Facebook.

I just recently read somewhere online that potential employers will search your facebook/myspace to see what kind of a person you are..... that's scary!
  23. What happens if you find a med error on MAR/TAR?

That's the problem with written MARS/TARS..... Everything should be on the computer, most nurses don't take the time to actually look in the chart to find out when the order was first actually written.... UGH. Just thinking about it makes me nausea...
  24. Per Diem Holiday Scheduling

I am a PRN employee at an ALF/SNF.... 1 perk to being a PRN employee is that I get to make my own schedule.... I do not have to work a holiday if I don't want to. I choose to simply for the time and a half. The full time employees get to choose whi...
  25. Paper on Nurse/Patient Ratios

It's so funny that you are writing a paper on this subject. I work in an ALF/SNF where the patient's are totally different on the SNF side! On the ALF side, there are fewer nurses, but was just recently told by my DON that the ratio is 1:40! What?...
