  1. Taxi vs. 911

Tonight, in our ER, a man came in with a gunshot wound to the arm via taxi and a three year old came in via ambulance (his parents called 911) because he put a dime in his nose. Silly, I know. Just thought I would share.
  2. ISCM block for shoulder surgery

The website nurse - anesthesia . org has a whole section devoted to regional and you can post regional discussions.... see if anyone knows about it there.
  3. My CRNA friends do illegal drugs

Comparing terrorists with drug use? Lets get real here. That's insulting. And just to clarify, just because you believe people heve the right to do what they want in their own time does not mean you condone or endorse the behavior. Many of us just be...
  4. My CRNA friends do illegal drugs

Occasional recreational drug use does not equal addiction, nor does it necessarily lead to addiction. Additionally, the occasional use of ecstacy (or any other recreational drug use, including alcohol) does not necessiate the need for any type of "re...
  5. My CRNA friends do illegal drugs

I agree with Focker. People can do what they want on their own time.... also, keep in mind that many legal drugs (such as alcohol) can be much more damaging to peoples lives than occasional use of recreational drugs. I should reinterate Fockers poin...
  6. I passed

Congrats! Just took the quiz this AM.... 90 questions. I hope to be in the club soon! But holy hell... that was a hard test.
  7. Boards response time

CCNA= Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthestists this thread is not about the NCLEX
  8. Valley Anesthesia: Should I go or just get the sweat book.

I didn't get the information online.... it was presented to us in a lecture through school. You will notice when you fill out your application for candidacy for the exam they ask you how many review courses you took. They definitely collect and track...
  9. Valley Anesthesia: Should I go or just get the sweat book.

According to the AANA, there is no statistical difference in pass rates between those who take a review course and those who don't. That being said, of those who did NOT go..... how many of them studied Valley materials? Probably quite a few.... I ...
  10. Death Penalty Anesthesia

Maybe someone can do the right thing and kill this thread. KILL IT!!!
  11. What does it mean....

Usually just a surgeon trying to blame someone else (read: anesthesia) 'cause they are struggling a little.
  12. Death Penalty Anesthesia

Brain dead = dead. Just because the body has viable organs doesn't make it alive. p.s. the concept of being alive is not wholly exclusive to the discipline of healthcare Cogito ergo sum
  13. Brain Book Advice

    LOVE that book.
  14. Anectine/Propofol for LMA insertion

I have had an MD recommend 20mg of Anectine for LMA insertion if they have a tight jaw. Seems to me this is a substitute for putting in an LMA early on a patient who is probably not adequately anesthetized. I would just mask 'em with gas, get 'em de...
  15. Death Penalty Anesthesia

That's ridiculous. We don't all have the same beliefs.
  16. Is there time to care for the patient?

For me, there are few things in nursing that have been more fufilling than providing a good anesthetic. It is the epitome of caring. (On the other hand, it really sucks when they wake up crying and puking.....)
  17. Death Penalty Anesthesia

uhhhh.... the person is already dead. If you are actually in healthcare, you probably shouldn't have to have this concept explained to you.
  18. Brain Book Advice

Go to brainstationusa.com for the Anesthesia Brain book. I ordered them for a bunch of people in my class and they gave me a bulk discount.
  19. prescriptive authority

Oh dude.... I'm done. I can't argue with ignorance.... OMG..... what is happening to the CRNA forum? Another good thread hijacked.
  20. prescriptive authority

This is actually starting to border on comedy here. Seriously, please stop... you may not realize this, but you are embarrassing yourself. Lucky this place is anonymous. I noticed you come from an ER background... maybe you should lurk there for a wh...
  21. prescriptive authority

First off, if you mean "no disrespect", maybe you shouldn't refer to us as "you people." Seriously, that is just plain condescending. Secondly, have you ANY IDEA what the training is to be a CRNA? Do you realize that our education in anesthesia is ve...
  22. SRNA Senioritis

Warning.... this is JUST a RANT: I have 49 days left till graduation and it seems more dreadful every day. Walking into traffic seems less painful. This week, my clinical preceptor was trying to impart "helpful hints" to me and I stood there trying t...
  23. prescriptive authority

Sorry, I thought maybe you had a UTI or something.... I was about to send you an old bottle of Cipro I had laying around!:rotfl: I was going to ignore the ignorance here but.... maybe we can figure out how to get an Rx for our new friend fasto here ...
  24. prescriptive authority

I think it is a state to state thing. My understanding is that CRNAs don't really do it because our practice is hospital/office based and the drugs we use are only used during the period of anesthesia.... I suppose if you worked in a pain clinic it w...
  25. Keep it to myself? / UMDNJ?

I would suggest keeping your goals private. You have to look at it from the manager's point of view as well as taking into account things such as professional jealously, etc. You should remain professional while maintaining your distance and privacy ...
