CPs are paged overhead where I work and we have strict time goals for EKGs so when we get a CP page we will always have at least 2 staff members come into the room to get the patient settled in. I work midshifts as well and breaks (other than lunch b...
In my opinion being an EMT would help you get into an ED but not so much an ICU. EDs and ICUs are two very different beasts, and working as an EMT is directly related to emergency care. In my area you actually HAVE to be an EMT to work in the ED, but...
Lamazeteacher, I am not sure that this will play out as everybody hopes. I come from one of those countries that has socialized healthcare, and one of the big problems is that 1)it is common to NOT be able to see your PCP the same day (or the next, f...
Many new grad residency programs will not accept RNs who had ANY kind of previous work experience, but it is always worth checking with whatever hospital you apply to.
Thanks MonaLuna. We document so much to cover our own behinds, but it is sad to hear that German nurses have to work in grey zones just so stuff gets done..
I can tell you that I learned twice as much in my part-time midshift position than I did in my full-time night position, simply because the patient load is that much higher during mid-shifts. And yes, our facility absolutely offers part-time position...
I don't know if hiring a lawyer would be worth the expense. You said yourself that there is more to the story, so we cannot tell you if you could win or not, but your most practical approach at this point might be to take your necessary credits at a ...
You probably need an order for non-behavioral restraints. We cannot place somebody in any kind of restraints (soft, hard, medical, behavioral or non-behavioral) without an MD order.
I don't think it will be to your advantage professionally to wait that long but you have to figure out your own personal priorities and go from there. Professionally, you will have one, possibly even two cohorts of fresh-out-of-school new grads compe...
I'd leave it in your resume under education but would take it out of the "title" part (BS, RN). It might look misleading because this Bachelor is not related to your RN title.
I agree, "walking in each other's shoes" seems to be the only thing that works. We had a few floor nurses shadow us for a shift and the change in attitude shortly after was dramatic. We heard lots of "We had no idea.." and communication was great. Un...
In cases like yours I found that family members often approach me outside the room, or ask to speak to me privately. I appreciate the additional information/insight, but if the pt is AAO then I want to hear "their version" of what is going on. If the...
That is exactly the problem though. How could I, as the nurse who has not met the pt before, know that his hypothetically verbalized desire to be alone in the room is influenced by medication and is not the answer he would have given when non-medicat...
I agree with Altra. Sometimes spouses/family members mean too well and think that it is better to answer the questions addressed to the patient instead of the patient, maybe because they feel that the patient is too distracted by the pain. However, t...
Depends on where you work. Our paramedics have the same scope of practice in the ED as our EMT-Bs. We also only have EMTs in the ED as techs, no PCAs or CNAs.
If it is a regular staff RN job I would not. There are plenty applicants for jobs and they do not need to pay for your stay. I'd suck up the expense or make the commute.
