  1. The difference between hydrogel dressings and hydrocolloid dressings

both maintain a moist environment. But hydrocolloid dressings have the capacity to absorb mild exudate or drainage.
  2. Took me nine months to a year in nyc with a BSN. Don't get scared though, our graduating class had grad-to-hired times that varied greatly, depending on how early they started looking & how much they networked. From people getting offers prior to...
  3. So I got this alarming comment from one of the recruiters I spoke with. She said after 6 months, new graduates are no longer considered "new"?!?! Not sure it matters but yeaaahhhh.... So, after November, I'm just "mopin around graduate RN?" or "weig...

  7. Are there any hospitals hiring new Grads

Yes! I've had 4 interviews for new grad positions in 3 nyc hospitals (Yes, twice in the same hospital for 2 different positions!!)! Sadly, I did not get any of them. But the managers and recruiters have told me that they hire "competitive new grads"....
  8. What are you thankful for today?

Today... I'm thankful for: * Hair products & mascara, without which I'd look like a boy * My patient, kind, and forgiving hubby who looks @ me lovingly even when my hair is limp & flat * My future full time job in a profession I can't wait to...

    What, specifically, is discouraging you?
  10. Caught in the web of a workplace romance.

Two ways to go about it: 1) Either focus your attention and energy on working things out with your marriage (if you were happy in the first place & truly valued your spouse & relationship, you would have kept your distance and made sure the ...
  11. I'm really curious... Is there a policy for HR or nurse recruiters to have a minimum quota for people they have to consider/ interview for a position? I've gone on a couple of interviews, four of which are for major hospitals in my area. Although I'm...
  12. Racism at clinical site...what to do?

That's appalling! Have you told your clinical instructor? I believe that would be the chain of command... Also, at the end of clinical rotations, they usually give you a form to evaluate the unit/ hospital, don't they?
  13. Finally got official job offer

Wow now this is something new!!! They made you wait after they've told you you got it?!?! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Your persistence paid off BIG TIME! :)

If you're a new grad, just be prepared for being turned away like a leper! kidding. But yeah, seriously, have tons of resumes @ hand. Ask for a business card / contact number from the person you're speaking with as well so you can follow up. I woul...
  17. job fair

Very similar. The list of participants are the almost the same. I checked the websites! Skipping this one. Have too many logo-dpens as it is. And, well, a list of hospitals/ agencies to last me a lifetime! Now if only something definite can come out...
  18. Question about living in NYC on RN salary

Another thing you might also consider looking into is whether or not the hospital hires ADNs. Most large private hospitals in the city that have housing options - NYP, NYU, Mt. Sinai (not sure about housing options on this), only hire BSNs, ADNs with...
  19. New Grad Hospital Preceptor/Training/Orientation Question

It depends on the hospital and on the unit. I've had a couple of interviews and it always depends on the availability of nurses who are able to precept during the nights. This can be better answered by the manager of a specific unit.
  20. job fair

I am attending. New grad, job search = 3 months. Very slim chance though of getting noticed. Spoke with a recruiter from a previous job fair and he was quite honest with me, saying that with big events like these, we just "fade into the crowd." Howe...
  21. May 2009 Graduates!!! Do you have a job yet?

No hospital job yet. However this... .... inspires me! I just had my 6th today, thinking it must be some record. I got the surprise of my life when I found out I am hopelessly terrible with interviews. None of the weeks of practice worked today....

  23. I am sure Im wrong

Here in NY, pregnant women & children are priority. Because of the shortage, our gov took off the mandated H1N1 for healthcare workers.
  24. Can I apply for a job before I graduate?

Apply early. And while you're still doing clinicals, it would be a good idea to get to know the managers on the floors you might be interested in applying.
