  1. eh, i think we have a bit of a misunderstanding here. though i probably should let this go, i like this place and don't wish to be misunderstood. allow me to explain myself further- no attacks to you. swords down. chances are, if she's a cna, then sh...
  2. I can't say I blame you. Recruiters spread enough misinformation - why should we? I hear people talking about and I just tell them what I know- all about healthy, normal babies and nice, undemented, eldery people with bowel and bladder control? Occas...
  3. What would you do, if you were in my shoes.....

Well, after your first semester, I think you can get certified as a CNA without the training period- if you can ride out the rest of the time with Mr. Understanding. I don't know what billers make but most CNAs get about $20,000 to $25,000 a year.
  4. Whats the deal with all the crying?!?!....

I think nursing school, and any training/ job that requires a lot of discipline and in which you carry the knowledge that a right or wrong move could spell the difference between life and death, it breaks you down and you have to build yourself back ...
  5. Men in Nursing

The only job in which gender is a relevant factor is gamete donation. Even prostitution is iffy.
  6. only in nursing school

No kidding, msdeannah! One of my instructors is habitually late (by 20 mins) and because, you know, according to him, he's just human and life happens, but you show up one second past class start time, you are dog meat. Dog meat needs his advice on t...
  7. Who else is having fun with school supplies?

If you include shoes and textbooks, then I enjoy being broke as well.
  8. Close to quitting...need advice!

Oh my god, you could be me. Clinical intimidates me too, but it's also because I'm a big-time introvert along with the lack of confidence and small talk sucks out my energy and shreds my nerves. Also it's 8:00 in the morning and I'm not even awake un...
  9. family is too grossed out to hear about my clinicals

LOL, I know- my sister who is a premed takes upon herself to inform me of basic immunology (telling me with such -authority- about the different types of immunoglobulins and what they do...all so far stuff I learned in A&PII, but she believes "mo...
  10. better term for "saggy eldery" skin?

Maybe "lacking turgor" or "inelastic" is good as CrunchyMama said. I got the image, but I'm not sure either. Nursing ought to require a minor in creative writing.
  11. CNA class ASAP!

Are there any technical/vocational centers close enough to drive daily? I'd also check with every nursing home in the phonebook. They sometimes have CNA training.
  12. Does anyone else find nursing school... easy?

It's not overwhelmingly hard as far as the actual work goes. My problem is my instructors like to give a lot of important dates and events as "Oh, by the way" without writing them anywhere. And you mess up in one aspect of nursing three times a semes...
  13. need help with concept map please!!

My professor suggest starting with the patient/ med diagnosis as the center- then you branch the different kinds of data off that. Maybe this will help: http://cord.org/txcollabnursing/onsite_conceptmap.htm
  14. How are you holding up with school?

Booze, meaningless sex, and cigs. J/K- Doing well, a high B average, just passed dosage calc tests without any trouble at all. How about you?
  15. Good Lord. Overwork, burnout, desensitization and the fact that a RN or MD behind one's name can't save a person from being what they truly are (indifferent, arrogant, drunk/addict, petty, lazy) all play a role in crappy care. It doesn't change your...
  16. regretting nursing school??

It might be helpful to get some career counseling if you're not sure if you want to be in nursing- period. If it's just the bedside stuff you can't stand, maybe look into other opportunities like NP or CRNA and decide if they sound attractive. Betwee...
  17. need help with nervousness

You nailed it- just a lack of experience. I asked because if it's just this one thing, I've found several things to help: Practice your skills - as much as you can. Have a friend/classmate or family member get on a bed and practice rolling, sitting u...
  18. need help with nervousness

Are you a nervous person otherwise? Or is it just this situation that gets you?
  19. Just a vent about nursing school

Tell me about it- my two weeks in nursing school, we just worked on effective communication and hygiene. I was like " 'nurse' isn't code for 'shrink who wipes ass, is it?' " (well, it looks like it is, but that's not all there is to it). The big pict...
  20. Cliques in Nursing School

I used to knock cliques automatically, but some cliques are just made up of very good friends. You wouldn't describe them as "cliquish" because they can be pried apart on occasion and the members don't look at outsiders like they have three heads if ...
  21. I have a Bachelor degree in Business going for Nursing

I'd go for the ASN because it's only two years of training before you can work and most likely it'll be cheaper too (mine at community college is 2,000 a semester vs. 4,000 at a university I looked into). If you decide nursing is the job you love, y...
  22. no energy!

If it started since school it's most likely stress, but as was said before, I'd go to doc or NP to rule out physical causes. Even if it is stress, they can address that too. Stress can turn into depression and, if you've never experienced it, the Big...
  23. Too old to become an LPN?

If you've got the urge, you should do it. You'll always regret it if you don't try.
  24. Is it harder than you thought?

No, I don't think you are- it's harder than what anybody I've talked to has let on. They seem to only remember their 70k paycheck or the babies born right into their arms or something along those lines. Nobody mentions the work you commit yourself to...
  25. Help! At risk of failure!!

Nursing diagnoses are based on the things you observe about the patient, like general appearance, things they say, etc. For example, a patient with skin breakdown on his or her hip may get an ND of "impaired skin integrity" There's whole books of wha...
