  2. Who asked about the smallest premie?

Today I saw a 272 gram baby (a little over 9 oz.). 25 weeker, IUGR. She's been alive for 3 days now. I couldn't believe how tiny she was! Not my patient, so don't know the whole story...not sure how I feel about this...
  3. Taking NCLEX

I took the nlcex-rn this morning, so this topic is very fresh in my mind! I got 75 questions, lots of priority ones, so I hope that's good! We'll see in a few days... A little advice-get a good night's sleep (I didn't & wish I had when my alarm w...
  4. Anyone know of website with nicu-appropriate printed scrub tops?

I went to intensivewear.com, and they do have cute stuff! I love the little footprint lanyard for holding my name badge...I might have to order it. I like the scrubs, too. Thank you!
  5. Is the NICU part of the Maternal rotation?

We had it as part of our ob semester. We spent time in l&d, postpartum, wellbaby nursery, and two days in nicu. These two days were optional, and some students chose to only go one day. (Of course I went for both!) We weren't allowed to do anythin...
  6. Learning Injections on EACH OTHER

We practiced with dummies and little "fleshy pads", but we also gave each other SQs in the back of the arm. We also started IVs on each other. You did have the right to refuse both. I could never imagine practicing IMs on each other-too much pain (fi...
  7. Is It A Widespread Hospital Practice For CNAs To Catheter Patients?

No, not the CNAs. When I was in school (just graduated in Dec), I was a nurse tech on a Surgery floor. Techs were nursing students who were in or past their foundation level of clinicals. We were responsible for indwellings, in & outs, iv's, tubi...
  8. Any experiences with disappearing NICU parents?

Thanks- I start in a nicu next month & was just wondering if it's all that common. It's just a really sad situation. In nursing school, I saw a nicu baby with ambiguous genitalia whose mom had abandoned it (no father in the picture either). I fe...
  9. Does anyone know of a website that has printed tops with newborns, birth weights, storks, baby disney etc. on them? I work in nicu so anything baby-related would work & I won't look like I'm a walking 2 year old...unless I go to the grocery after...
  10. what inspired you to work in nicu?

Pinkcrush, Hi! I just graduated in Dec from nursing school & am starting as an rn in a nicu in Feb. Some advice I have for you is: When you are in nursing school, you may have semesters you want to quit. You might be like me and hate gero, psych,...
  11. new member--RN and mom to a preemie

Hi and welcome. I'm new too-just joined a week ago. I'm a new nurse & starting in nicu in Feb, so I've read many of these threads. I think you might like the one titled "what inspired you to work in nicu". It's here in this forum, just about 10-1...
  12. does anyone get to wear fun scrubs

I work in nicu, and I hear some of you saying you work in nicu/ob/peds. Does anyone know of a website that has printed tops with babies or storks or something on them? I'd really appreciate it-i've been searching for awhile.
  13. Nurses and smoking

I personally don't smoke, and I can't see how nurses could do that to themselves! Most of us have seen an elderly person who can't hardly breathe b/c they smoked their whole lives. I just don't ever want to be like that. I do think it's a person's ch...

  15. Any experiences with disappearing NICU parents?

Hi! Just wanted to know if any of you have experienced what happened on ER the other night-the parents of a nicu baby suddenly disappearing. I don't mean that they weren't able to come for a few days b/c of work, no car, etc., but left the baby perma...
