  1. More attractive grads have better chances of getting hired?

I actually think that this is illegal. It is an undercover way of asking your race or your age.
  2. Unemployment & Nursing School

Well, all I know is what I was told directly from the Georgia Dept. of Labor in Atlanta. Maybe Macon has its own rules. I wish you luck in moving on, but I wouldn't count on unemployment.
  3. Not making it in Massachusetts

Don't come to GA. No decent jobs here either. Hospitals are closing down, buying one another. Unpaid care is just killing them.
  4. Nursing in Atlanta

I thought this was the Georgia forum. What is this, then.
  5. Atlanta hiring new grads

Well, "They promise you nothing back" isn't exactly true. They are giving you the opportunityh to learn and get experience. It takes a while for a new nurse to get up to speed. It just does.
  6. Unemployment & Nursing School

Contact the GDOL. I believe that full time school is one thing they allow to exempt you from job search; however, right now the max is 27 weeks which will never last through a full nursing program.
  7. Georgia Regional Hospital of ATL

Do nurses at Georgia Regional wear street clothes or can you wear colored scrubs?
  8. Emory Midtown or ATL RNs?

Actually, these days you should feel fortunate that they offered you the position. It is not the time to haggle about a buck or two. Get in the door and show them what you can do. Trust me. There are not that many places hiring nurses today. Good...
  9. Advice for going into Pediatrics

Has anyone here successfully transitioned from adult care (rehab) to pediatrics? What did it take? What types of companies were willing to train you? I am looking into it and would certainly appreciate any advice from seasoned peds nurses, particu...
  10. Georgia Regional Hospital of ATL

I was contacted by their recruiter and all of your comments have been really helpful. Are any of you working there at present? What's it really like? Did Central State close already? Is Georgia Regional scheduled to close any time soon? Would li...
  11. Are there any hospitals that will pay for nursing school?

The State of Georgia also has service-cancellable loans and all you have to do is work in GA at a facility that takes medicare and medicaid. Check out the Georgia Higher Education Assistance Agency.
  12. Getting overpaid. Should I tell payroll?

Honesty, integrity, and ethics are a bedrock of the nursing profession. You must advise them. If you do not, it WILL come back to bite you later. My God would want me to be up front about it. Someone may have made an honest mistake and will be g...
  13. I have found myself currently unemployed and I thought I would like to try hospice nursing. I passed the initial screening and was invited in for an interview. The interview was going quite well in my opinion until I mentioned that there had been a...
  14. Is this a common requirement for being hired at a hospice?

Advice well taken Enchantmentdis. I have not had to look for a job in many years. This is a new experience and everything has changed. I guess it's like going to court - "Just the facts, Ma'am".

  18. GA Nursing Roll Call

Hello Jay - Roxie here. Mid-life career changer. Non-trad student. Graduated in '93 in midst of the last healthcare reform. Had a difficult time finding my first nursing job so went back to school and studied medical transcription at Gwinnett Tech....
  19. What is your favorite part of your job?

GirlDotson - You will probably change your mind a dozen times while you are in school. That's okay. You need to experience all the different clinical settings and then you will make up your mind. That is what's so great about being a nurse. You c...
  20. GPC Spring 2012

I want to reassure anyone planning to attend GPC and who may be apprehensive because of some negativity on this site. I have been working as an RN for over 15 years and the nurses who are GPC and DeKalb College graduates all had excellent clinical s...
  21. Im new and I need your help!!!

I hope your brother is doing well. If you really like Occupational Therapy, why not go for that? They are in great demand and I believe they get more respect than a nurse does. Just my personal experience.
  22. Great First Day!!!

Glad you dove right in. Your enthusiasm will help you to get through. Good luck.
