  1. Here in Long Island, NY you can make up to $18.75 an hour. That's what my friend is making at a nursing home.
  2. I finally got a test date in the mail. It's on March 27th and I'm so nervous!!! I've been studying the book and all of my definitions so I'm not too worried about that. I'm worried about the skills test. I wish they had cna refresher courses, I think it's really dumb that they don't! I'm gonna have to study them on youtube. Does anyone know any other recourses I can study from for the skills part of the test??
  3. This is a very big help, thank you!!!! What state do you live in?
  4. When I get my test date in the mail do you know if it will say what skills I will be doing? And does anyone know of a place were I can get updated information like we do when we go to inservices. I'm sure my CNA book from 2007 has old info in it...
  5. Thanks everyone for your replies. I contacted Prometric and they said I don't have to take the class over, I just have to take a test. I have to take the written test and the skills test. My problem is, where the heck do I practice my skills??!!! I don't remember how to do them...Ughhhhhhhhhh! Any suggestions? I have 3 chances to pass the test and then if I still don't pass then I have to take the class over. Does anyone know where I can practice my skills?? Thanks again! ~Lonnie
  6. I've been a CNA since March 2007 and I've been out of work since November 2007. I haven't been able to find a job as a CNA anywhere!! I've been to every single nursing home in my area and they keep telling me they will hold my application for 6 months (so frustrating). So my dilemma is, My certification is going to lapse in 8 days ! I don't know what to do. I can't take the class over again because I'm attending night school. My question is, I live in NY and I was wondering if I can just take a test to reinstate my certification or do I have to take the class over again? OMG! Please tell me I can take a test...LOL!! Does anyone know of any nursing home on Long Island that will hire me before November 30th??:crying2::crying2:
  7. I live on Long Island and I've been looking for a job for months now. I finally got a call this morning from a staffing agency and I have an interview for tomorrow morning. My question is, has anyone ever worked for a staffing agency before and if so how do you like it?
  8. We chart everything down on our CNA accountability sheets.
  9. Maybe it is a state to state issue. Here in NY, were not allowed to access the patient's charts. The only thing we have access to is the patient's care plans. At the end of our shift we have to fill out our CNA accountability sheets.
  10. To me, when someones dying their room smells rotten.
  11. It is in the patient's charts but that's confidential information and the Nurses Aides aren't allowed to look at them. We only see the care plans.
  12. I took their CNA course too. I was in the January 2007 class and recieved my certification March of 2007. When did you go??
  13. Where I worked they didn't tell you if the patient had aids. They don't have to. It's a patient rights rule. While I was taking the CNA class my instructor told us that also. She said to make sure you take proper precautions with every resident because they don't tell you if they have a disease. Their will be a pink sticker on their door to inform you to use universal precautions but they don't tell you what they have.
  14. Has anyone attended this program? If so, can you tell me about it? I just got off the phone with an admissions counselor. She was very helpful and told me to call her back the first week in August and she'll tell me the testing dates. I'm so excited that I finally found an LPN prep course and it's the same place they offer the LPN program at!! Now if only I can find someone who's taking the prep course...LOL!!
  15. It's very rewarding working as a CNA but it's also really hard and it's not for everyone. It's a very, very stressful job! I agree with FuzzyWuzzy. Make sure you do some research before you take the classes. Good luck to you!
