Eisenhower new grad and JFK memorial Versant?
They ask questions that are fit for a newgrad, nothing like they would ask an experienced nurse. Questions are not too difficult. They are trying to get to know you. Does anyone know if JFK has made a decision on who they want to hire for Versant? Interviews concluded March 30th, 2011. I'm not sure if anyone has heard anything after their interview. If an applicant who interviewed is not selected, will they receive any notification? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Are new graduate RN's being hired in Orange County, CA?
i believe i made it pretty clear with regard to my expectations for a response. i directly asked if hospitals were hiring in oc. i did not ask about passing the nursing program or the nclex. with a 4.0 gpa for the past three and a half years, i have zero doubt as to my ability to graduate or pass the nclex. i also did not ask for my concern to be labeled as irrelevant. some areas are hiring and some are not. the internet is an excellent resource to determine which areas and hiring and which are not.

Are new graduate RN's being hired in Orange County, CA?
i thought it was rude as well. i posted a very valid concern and question. both my concern and question were shot down by her. oh well... lol. being that we can obtain a temporary permit to start working with an rn, contingent upon passing the nclex, we need to start looking now. at our 4th semester orientation, the director urged us to start looking into employment opportunities now. we also need to start applying soon to new grad programs. it worries us soon-to-be new grads that there are hiring freezes everywhere we look. most of the new grads from the previous class had to leave our area and find work elsewhere. only 8 were hired at the local hospitals. i intend on looking into orange county, ca. i still need to know if they are hiring new grads out there. good advice on the recommendations from instructors. thank you!

Are new graduate RN's being hired in Orange County, CA?
This contradicts what the director of our program is telling us. We need to start figuring out where we want to work and start looking into new grad programs. The time has come. Please do not post unless you have some constructive advice.

Are new graduate RN's being hired in Orange County, CA?
Hello, I will be graduating with an RN degree this December. I plan on taking my nclex shortly after. I will be applying for a new grad position in South Orange County, CA. Does anyone know if the hospitals are hiring new grad RN's? HOAG hospital would be ideal. It seem that, no matter where I look, there is a hiring freeze on nurses. I am concerned that I will not be able to find a job. Thank you!

Tripler Medical Center- New Grads?
i agree with lisamsn. it's bad advice. i would like to add that i am getting tired of hearing this type of advice. a person who will remain "nameless" has been trying to prevent rn's from moving to the island for at least two years now with extremely negativity, exaggeration, and pessimism regarding the current nursing situation. i have been reading her posts for that long. being that it's temporarily so competitive in hawai'i right now, the goal is to prevent mainland rn's from taking any potential jobs from the existing population. it's obvious why this person patrols the message boards daily to scare off any potential new rn's. don't fall for this as you will come across it on the hawai'i boards. i have not seen it anywhere else... please don't let it get you down. it is a temporary problem that will not last!! there is a severe nursing shortage. it shocks me that this type of attitude would be directed toward military families! aloha!

nursing in california/ advice
There are people in our program that live both 1 and 2 hours away. They each carpool and make it work. It's tough, but can be done. They always schedule classes together and the other students switch clinical days with them if needed so that they can carpool. Instructors and other students are pretty flexible to accomadate those that commute from other counties. Try and find people who live near you to work something out. You might have to stay in a hotel or with another student once in awhile, especially during 3rd and 4th semester when things get really tough. Sometimes you have to study for a major exam and have a 10 page clinical paper due the same week. Those are the times you want to just stay near school because your commute time will eat up your entire evenings. There is always a solution if you really want to make something work... Just keep your eye on the prize =)

I'm a little confused on this message. Is she saying that a Phd will be required to be a nurse in 2015? If so, I really don't think that is true. That would only add to our nursing shortage. A PhD is incredibly expensive. Perhaps she is saying that a PhD will be required for an MSN program by 2015? If so, that does not make sense either. Hmmmmmm :nuke:

You are correct. It's terrible.... There are many factors that add to the problem. For example, it's very difficult to find nursing school instructors. As RN's, they make more money at the hospitals than teaching in an RN program. Schools can't even find enough instructors. It's also terrible that the private school programs are so expensive!! Keep trying. Eventually you will get into a program. Just make sure to work your butt off once you get into a program...we've had 19 students out of 60 fail out of my program since I started! I'm finishing 3rd semester now. You make friends and before you know it, they are gone! Nursing school is very difficult, but worth it !

Once you finish your pre-req's, I would apply all over the state. This is what you will have to do if you want to get into a program soon. Some schools require different pre-req courses than others. I just took them all (some even online). I sent my application to at least 10 schools and ended up getting into the program closest to my house. It was a lottery system and I just got lucky. Since then, they have cut the amount of students from 60 to 40. The budget no longer can sustain 60 students per nursing class. This makes it even more difficult to get into a program. As far as your previous low grades, I would retake those courses so that they can be replaced with an A or B. I'm finishing my 3rd semester now. I have one more to go. Good luck! Keep trying.

UPDATE: New grad RN programs in Hawaii
Aloha xj3nnerz, Thanks for posting this last year. Do you happen to have an update on new grad programs for 2010? I actually don't graduate until this December, but I'm just curious. I'll be applying for a 2011 new grad program. Does it look like things are improving? I left O'ahu to go to school on the mainland, but am coming back to O'ahu right after graduation. Could impaired breastfeeding be a primary Nanda for a c-section patient?
Unfortunately, our instructors get very upset when we use nandas such as pain, constipation, and impaired skin integrity. While these are great nandas, they feel we aren't thinking outside of the box. In addition, everyone ends up using the same nanda for a c-section patient. Thanks for your help! I'll keep trying and see if I come up with something.

Could impaired breastfeeding be a primary Nanda for a c-section patient?
My instructor would like us to select a primary nursing diagnosis for our patient. Could "impaired breastfeeding related to deficient knowledge about breastfeeding" be a primary Nanda for a c-section patient? My patient is a post-op cesarean section. I am inclined to think that the primary nursing diagnosis should be related to her incision. However, it should NOT be a "risk for" as this is never a primary diagnosis. So, perhaps "impaired mobility related to cesarean section as evidenced by inability to sit up or roll over in bed" would be more appropriate? I like "impaired breastfeeding" the best as I actually assisted the patient with this matter. However, I'm confused as to which one is a bigger priority - or if either of these are a high priority.
