  3. help! how can I be more assertive?

I am somewhat dealing with the same circumstances. Sometimes I just dont know what to say to patients. I know what I am doing, but the articulation is just not there. So I am in the same boat as you: trying to go from somewhat shy/ soft spoken to out...
  4. Did the TEAS test today

I'm sure you did fine. What do you want to get on it? I looked over the manual for like 10 minutes before taking the test and got a 91...but the lady told me I should aim higher if I wanted to get into a program..Luckily we can take it as many times ...
  5. To pass or To be the highest?

why are you looking at it as a competition??? I don't care if you have straight A's...it does not mean you will be a better nurse than someone who got B's and C's. In my class we never know what EVERYONE has gotten on the test, nor do we all care...a...
  6. Why does nursing school cram the material?

The only courses I feel are crammed are pharm and patho...and maybe the transitions in clinicals... I know in our program the transition into the hospital from skills is horrible...the teachers complain that we aren't ready and the students complain ...
  7. Nursing School Students...Is It Hard?

As far as details in how it may be difficult. You have to learn A LOT in a short amount of time....A LOT of memorizing and critical thinking. Tests, quizes, papers, care plans...all can be due around the same time depending how your classes flow. T...

  11. My school's grading policy SUCKS!!!!

Wow thats crazy. My school you have to get a 73% to pass and people were complaining lol. The only thing I hate about my school is the +/- system. Im used to flat As, Bs, and Cs. But I feel bad for those that have to get higher than 80% to pass their...
  12. how expensive is california? CAN A NURSE MANAGE WITH HER WAGE??

I don't agree with this... The bay area is NOT THAT expensive to say a nurse can only live OK out here if he/she rents. Let's not over dramatize it. My mom will be making less than me after I graduate and get a job and she is definitely living comfor...
  13. skirts required for community health clinical???

wow, that sounds a little old fashioned. Talk to you instructor to see if that is outdated. I would be mad if I had to wear a skirt. I don't really like to wear skirts.
  14. Nursing School Students...Is It Hard?

It is as hard as you make it. It is definitely going to be somewhat difficult, but depending on how you pace yourself and manage your time and the effort you put forth will determine how hard it will be overall. I advise at the beginning of the cours...

I work at a store...but this is my second year so I want to get my foot in the door at a hospital. esp since jobs in northern ca are hard to get. I applied for unit clerk, receptionist, and cashier. These jobs are either evening, weekends, or both. I...
  17. Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship

I hate that you have to have a $0 EFC. Mine is high but my mom does not pay my tuition, I have $15,000 in loans . Maybe I should ask my mom not to claim me ?
  18. How many study hours per night (do you average?)

My study plan is quite simple. We have some students who record lectures and email the recordings to the rest of the class (we're all a team). But on my own I do use the objectives to outline my notes for that particular lecture. I then type them up....
  19. Washington Hospital Fremont pay?

Very interesting, I am doing my clinicals at this hospital next semester...this makes me nervous.
  20. Im in a BSN program which is 3 years (yea I know, long) and is 6 semesters long. I only really heard the term credits when I went to a quarter school, we typically talk in terms of units. For passing you have to get a 73% to pass any class and if you...
  21. Advice Please: severe hit in confidence department

Don't worry, just keep your head up! You'll make it through. I went through the same thing last semester. 4 people were written up for turning in late careplans in my clinical class, although I did not get written up, it felt like I did. My teacher (...

  24. For Fun - Things You Want to Buy Once You're a Nurse

^lol I am sure its going to get worse! i'm the type of person who has her money spent in her mind before she gets her check. That's probably why I'm always broke lol.
  25. Students: Prefer morning or evening clinicals?

I have only done evening, but people in the morning seemed to have done things that you just dont do at night...i.e. making beds, doing bed baths...I only did that once all last semester. But I want more experience, so I am doing a morning shift this...
