So funny that in the beginning every new grad dreams of that grand hospital job, and after a few years a good amount of us run screaming from the bedside. :) Any one of those jobs sounds better than being a floor nurse with the way things are going!
So the biggest thing with flight nursing is most places look for CEN/CCRN status. I think the easiest way to obtain those is by working in a cardiac or mixed ICU. If the burn unit is a mixed burn/trauma ICU that will give you some great opportunities...
you read a funny paragraph out of a book and look for the "kudos" button! I was just reading Trauma Junkie and laughed out loud at a passage. For a split second I looked beneath it for the kudos button and realized I might be spending a little too mu...

I carry a precautions bag, heparin/NS flushes, temporal and axillary thermometers, scale covers, notepad and pen for admissions, lab supplies, disinfectant wipes
When I started my job the morale was pretty good. Every place has its own set of problems and mine is no exception, but for the most part people seemed to enjoy working, lots of team player attitude, so on and so forth...Lately, the morale has taken ...

It is just not the right setting for you then. I have been a nurse for a few years now and have had more jobs than years of experience. A lot of it was concurrent, but a couple were just a poor fit all around. I have had employers ask me about them b...
Hi, we get kiddos after drowning/near drowning who were resus'd but unfortunately cooling has not made a difference in the outcome. They all showed central destruction.

Four weeks seems fair. I would find out if they are flexible with orientation depending on the nurse's needs. Some nurses are flying by week 3 and others are starting to spread their wings at week 8.

The truth is there is absolutely a nursing shortage, but it's a created shortage because of budget restraints and cutbacks. All those open positions you see are left open on purpose because of freezes. I have a tiered health insurance company that wi...
I have worked with both and the NNP/PNP was head and shoulders above the PA with assessment and diagnostics, as well as communication. PAs are at a disadvantage because they do not have the extensive training NNPs have during their clinical rotations...
Lol, your nurse should have been proactive about PRN medications. Just wait until you're an RN. You'll be back here in a year sharing something that truly resembles the worst night in the history of your career. Give me a mentally ill patient to sit ...
Congratulations LaughingRN. I've been holding my breath with you for the past year and could not be happier for your. I bet you go forward from here with a new outlook.

PediLove, I LOVE their NICU. The kids we get from there are well cared for, the NICU transport nurses are organized and give great reports. The kiddos come medicated and the lines/tubes are clean and neat. I don't find the same from the floor or the ...

I work on a NICU/PICU stepdown unit full of the kiddos you're talking about. The unit is often used for patients in transition to go home who aren't stable enough, or older kids who bounce back because they're always in and out of the hospital with s...

She's giving you honest advice. It's a terrible market right now and I know many nurses who got their licenses, job searched for 2 years and then went into another field because there just isn't any work. If I could do it all over again I would have ...
