  1. Wanting to work in Caribbean as a Registered Nurse

If you are a U.S. Citizen RN, then I would suggest, for ease purposes, just come to the U.S. Virgin Islands. No visa is needed. It's just like transferring your license from Michigan to Rhode Island. For all legitimate purposes, we function as a stat...
  2. HRSA 2014-2015 Nurse Corps Scholarship

Yup, I got my email rejection letter this morning.
  3. Some of Us Are Trying to Help You...

Ditto. In my program we can't so much as pass a Tylenol without the visual oversight of our instructor.
  4. OMG, is it only the second day of nursing school????

I have A&P, Fundamentals, Health Assessment and Nutrition this semester. Even the stronger students are freaking out about the amount of reading required (13 chapters for one test!) ....and we havent even thrown care plans and clinical into the ...
  5. BSN NEW GRAD

I would say the cost of living in Orlando, Tampa and Miami (especially Miami) is equal to or greater than Chicago. Costs in Orlando have skyrocketed recently. So, I wouldn't tell OP that the lower hourly rate will be ok due to a lower cost of living.
  6. Cultural assignment

@kbrn2002. I am actually a student (BSN) I came down here to go to school because there is no waiting list, and its fully accredited(U.S.). We have been having some interesting conversations in nursing class so I thought I could share some of that wi...
  7. Cultural assignment

I live in the Caribbean (From the states originally) so maybe I can help you a little with the whole culture thing (I am not going into womens/mens roles because I can not be objective - my view of gender roles in the Caribbean is not positive IMO) H...

Thanks Nixonk! How long ago was it that you received the initial congratulations email?
  9. HRSA 2014-2015 Nurse Corps Scholarship

I'm pretty sure that Florida, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands have the same reviewer. If anyone in this region has been awarded the scholarship could you please advise? No one from the VI has received any communication as of yet.

  11. Managing money and student loans

Have you considered working for the Indian Health Service? They will pay 20K a year towards your loans? Also, the military will do loan repayment, and sometimes the VA will do loan repayment if you work for them. Some states (Florida is one) will rep...
  12. Advice me!!

So I am going to venture and guess that those are College Alegbra & Chemistry (into) not Organic Chem? I took both at the same time and I am ABSOLUTELY dreadful at math (In fact - I am taking a break from by dosage calculation HW as we speak) Any...

  14. LPN or RN can't decide were to go!

Since your in LV, and you already have some/most of your pre-reqs done, I would go straight into a BSN program. I used to live in LV and it is a tough market for nurses. I would only recommend people for LPN/LVN if they live in a rural area, or anywh...
  15. Relocating for Nursing School?

Apply to the University of the Virgin Islands! It is an accredited, U.S. Institution. The next class does not start until next January. There is no wait, and not too much competition. However, island life gets to people. So if you are not the ''hardy...
  16. Is my nursing school too selective?

I am confused, a few people have said that they had people "transfer in" or "add in" I would assume this was after the point clinicals had started? I thought it was rare for nursing credits to transfer?
  17. Nursing in USVI

The hospital does hire new grads from the local BSN program here on STT. Other than that it is mostly locals and travel nurses. I don't think it would be a good environment for a new grad from the states because the culture here is extremely differen...

I travel from one island to another, 4 hours round trip to get to school & I have a kid. And I depend on public transportation 2/3 of the way.You will be fine.
  20. Hate being an RN

OP - Might I suggest working for a Health Insurance Company as a nurse auditor/reviewer? I was a Medicare Research Analyst and decided to go back and finish my BSN, because I saw how the nurses were treated like gold. They were allowed to work remote...
