    Are COWs causing injury?

I had breast ca last year and after several surgeries I'm finding lugging, tugging and pulling our WOWs through hallways and over doorways makes my chest ACHE. I haven't heard anybody else complain, though, so I thought it was just me.

How much does edition matter in textbooks?

I *never* bought the current edition throughout NS and I saved a TON of money compared to what my classmates spent! Yes, the page numbers would be different, but I'd just look up the topic from the syllabus before class and mark my book accordingly....
  3. Anybody can send out a fast email or pick up the phone to leave a voicemail....put some actual effort into it and buy a nice card and send it to the NM. Better yet, if you're crafty MAKE a nice card (maybe incorporate your picture into it somehow......

Off The Wall: Nurses & Sticks

Shots don't bother me, but anything to do with my veins (or lack thereof) makes me want to throw up! I'm convinced my blood circulates in my body by osmosis because even with ultrasound all they can find are some weird torturous winding things that ...
  5. I just posted in another thread that WakeMed hired 60 new grads for their fellowship program that begins in July. Not sure if they're interested in hiring more, though.

    just a comment

I just read in a newsletter today that WakeMed has 60 new grads starting the fellowship program in July. There were over 300 applicants including some from out of state. We're still hiring for positions that require experience, too...although censu...
  7. NOTHING chaps my hide like going to use a bathroom stall and the previous user was a squatter that left pee all over the seat!! Geeze, people!! Lay down some paper or make sure to clean up after yourselves!! ARGH!!

    Who numbs for needlesticks?

Obviously you have good veins. I don't. For a recent follow-up breast MRI I was stuck three times for an IV...three if you just count the needle actually entering the skin. Not sure how to count the *riggin digging around because "something HAS to...

do you think flare leg ?

I see flare legs w/slits all the time at work. A style I haven't seen take off is the capri scrub pants. I seen them in the catalogs, but have yet to see anyone wear them. Wonder what kind of shoes/socks you'd wear with them anyway??
  10. As a new grad I had to deal with this issue. My patient trusted me..and confided in me regarding her last wishes. I had to take on the doctor AND her family, but dangit I fought tooth and nail to see that her wishes were respected. Sometimes WE ar...

    What would you have done?

This was a patient that was ADDED to your assignment because the other nurse was sent home and yet YOU are responsible for seeing to it that all the previous work was correct?!? Like you didn't have enough to do just finding out what meds were due, ...

walk in or online when applying for a job?

Let me put it this way: I heard back from HR about my online application AFTER I'd already been hired and was actually in the new grad fellowship for a month!! I always advise going in person and maybe, just maybe, you'll get an on-the-spot interv...

Multiple BP meds & dialysis- to give or not to give.......

This patient had already been dialysised and had a bp wnl. I would also be willing to bet that those meds were home meds.

    My First Clinical Deficiency (Long)

KellT, you need a "brain" Seriously, first thing I do each morning is take a piece of paper and fold it into fourths. I take a patient label and put in each square. Then I put pertinent history, reason for this admission, etc in blue/black ink. T...

HESI is Wrong ! Let's File Suit

I agree with the poster that said if you can't pass HESI how do you know you'd pass NCLEX with "flying colors"? Btw, I believe cardiacrn2006 probably indeed knows what she's talking about having passed HESI and NCLEX. Seriously, if I were having t...

    What should I know already?

Believe it or not they start with the basics and build on those...unless it's a requirement that you have your CNA before being accepted into the program they ASSUME you know nada, zip, zilch. Think of it this way: you won't have any "bad" habits ...
  18. Jaden, try visualizing the problem and see if that helps you understand the steps. :) Imagine actually having that patient and that medication to give.
  19. Patchouli, you may want to edit your post which is insulting at best. Then I'd advise you to read the site's TOS.

Multiple BP meds & dialysis- to give or not to give.......

I would have given them unless there was an order to hold them. morte is absolutely correct...the patient's BP was wnl *because* the meds were effective. Besides, they have different actions: lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor that relaxes blood vess...

1st med pass did not go so well...

See if you can get a copy of the MAR your facility uses or recreate something on your computer....get some of your OTC meds that come in blister packs and put them in baskets or whatever, put a bracelet on a teddy bear and then practice, practice, pr...

    "Call Back"

I could live with that. I just hate being at home waiting for the phone to ring (in the MIDDLE of the night) because I have to go in. Even if we were just on call for part of the shift would be okay...but, no!! we're on call for the whole 12 hours...

    "Call Back"

We can get called off for low census, yet have to be "on call" for the entire 12-hr shift (we get $2/hr for on call). Monday night I was called off at 1730, placed on call and got called in at 0145. What really bites is I missed the holiday pay.
