Congratulations!!! I know how you are feeling right now.....:)

Hi everybody who is getting ready for AANP certification exam! Finally, I can tell everyone that I passed my certification exam on September 6, 2014. Overall impression: not bad at all.... Most the questions that I had were straightforward and there was nothing there (medications or health conditions) that I never heard before. I marked 12 questions, came back and spent a little more time with them, but other than that, I was done within 2 hours... When I saw passed on the screen, I was ready to cry.... I did not think, I would, but I almost did. So much work just for those 2 hours.... I would recommend everybody to get review books: Leik, Hollier, Fitzgerald, while you are still doing your program and start practicing with the questions. For example, let's say, you are learning about CVD at school. After you reviewed the content on that, select the questions that pertain to CVD from those review books and practice with them. It will help you tremendously on your tests at school and teach you how to answer the questions. For pediatrics, I would recommend Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification Study Questions JoAnne Silbert-Flagg. It has some good pediatric questions, in addition to Leik, Hollier, and Fitzgerald. Also, like other people, I ordered ExamEdge 20 tests bundle and practiced with them my last semester at school. Even though it has some questions (legal issues, statistics, educational questions) that you might never see on your AANP exam, but I thought, it was worth to have it and practice with it. A couple of weeks before the exam, I ordered one test from Barkley and Associates http://www.npcourses.com/, APEA (3 quizzes bundle), and one predictor exam. The last test that I ordered before the exam was a practice test (75 questions) from AANP website. I thought it was a good test; I scored 83% on that. As a matter of fact, I got 3 questions from that practice test on my real exam. Most questions that I had on the exam were clinical scenarios. I was surprised that I did not have any milestones or vaccinations for pediatric content. It seems like, I mostly had pediatric or older adults scenarios. There were some women’s health, STD’s, and one ethical question as well. Know Asthma, COPD guidelines, and medications….. Basically - all common things. I think, if you go through all those books and practice with the tests a lot, you will pass the exam without any difficulties. You would feel like, I have seen and heard about it before. That's Fantastic! Congratulations! Thank you very much for a valuable information. I am going to graduate in August 31. I took my HESI test yesterday and got 86%. I went through all the books and practice questions that you did, Nurse54321. I am still planning to take 75 practice questions from AANP website, just to see where I am at... I bought 20 tests bundle from Exam Edge, completed almost all of them, but 4 tests still left. I am scoring in 80th on average... I hope for the best:) I applied for AANP exam back in May, all my paperwork has been completed by now, but they are waiting till August 31 (degree conferred) to send me a permission to schedule my exam. I am anxious and excited at the same time! I am ready to get it over with:)

Hi SuccessfullLady, Thank you very much for your response and nice words! No, I have not taken any review course. I did Fitzgerald (Certification examination and practice preparation) theory chapters and questions, Leik (642 questions plus brief theory), and Hollier all the questions. My current preceptor gave me Fitzgerald CDs and a book that goes with CDs from 2008. I am going to find some time to do the book, at least. I had an opportunity not to work, since I started my clinicals, so I try to go above and beyond to study hard:) Also, I have noticed that it was very helpful for the exams that I had to take in University. I know that some schools don't require for students to take any tests, once they started their clinicals. Students just have to write detailed SOAP notes and make presentations. In my school we have to do both. Soon, we are going to take our HESI exam, just to see where we are at this point. Thank you very much again! Hi everybody who has already taken FNP AANP 2014 and SuccessfullLady! I am going to graduate in August. I have been practicing with certification questions since I started my clinicals last fall. I have done Fitzerald, Leik, Hollier, and some free questions on-line I could find. I ordered 20 tests bundle from www.AANP-FNP.com and did some of them. It seems like all ExamEdge tests have some of the Legal Issues, Insurance, and Educational questions besides of clinical based questions, not many, but still... I am wondering if you had those types of questions on your actual AANP certification exam or actual exam included only clinical based questions? Thank you very much!

Thank you NEP1980 for your fast reply! I am sure it will be definitely lower than in Philly. I would be OK with 25$/hour, but not sure about lower than that. This company is located only a mile away from my house, plus it is day shift, they have evenings, but it is only till 9p.m. Right now, I have to drive about an hour to work and it is night shift that I have troubles to deal with. Do you know by chance anything about their benefits - insurance, 401K, vacation time? Thank you for your input again!:)

I am a relatively new RN with almost 1.5 year of experience at the hospital ICU/IMC neuro floor. Trying to get into dialysis outpatient clinic. Found one close from home, currently waiting for a job offer. It is Davita clinic. Read a lot of negative things about environment, salary and benefits. I am just wondering what can I expect my salary and benefits would be? Currently, my basal rate at the hospital 25.39$/hour, plus 3$ for night shift. I know it will be lower, but how much lower? This clinic is located in PA - Lancaster/Ephrata area. Any ideas would be appreciated!!!!!

Hi Kdrose21, I am current FACT student and my GPA was 3.51. I think 3.4 is pretty good GPA! Good luck with your prerequisites!

Hi, Sergey1989! I am from Ukraine too. I came here a little less than 2 years ago. I also had troubles understanding what people were saying at the beginning, but the more you are exposed to people the more you start understanding what they are saying. If you are not sure in your English, I would recommend you to try to find a simple job somewhere at the hospital or generally any job where you can practice your English. You can take English classes at the community college as well. There are also 2 weeks classes for Certified Nursing Assistants where you can get a little more familiar with medical terminology and medical job in generally. It would be a good base for your nursing profession in the future and it would help you a lot.... If you have any questions, let me know. If you Hi! Yes, exactly, AtomicWoman, Westmont! I got confused with new titles. I took it a couple of times, just to check, the station is right near the campus and, probably, we will get monthly pass with student discount, so it can really help to save a little money for gas and parking and also you don't have to worry about traffic and so on.

Yeah, that's true, you have to be very poor in order to get any grants. It makes it difficult, especially, because, we already have our first Bachelor's degree. I am coming for Orientation for sure! I meant that I wasn't sure about reception. Once, we start school, I will stay in New Jersey at my relatives house and take train every day. It is quite close, West Mount station, if I am not wrong. I am excited and worried at the same time! I can not wait.....

Hi Atomic Woman, to be honest, me either. I was there for Financial Aid workshop, it was pretty sad to know that we are only eligible for 12.5 thousands $ and the rest it would be only private loans. I was pretty tired by the end. I am still contemplating about the reception, but the most likely I will come for orientation on the 19th of May. I am eager to see all FACters too, but for me it is quite a distance to go there.

You have to bring all medical forms and immunization records to your Family Physician, they will perform physical exam and check your immunity against Measles, Mumps, Rubela and Hepatitis B. If you have enough immunity, you are fine, if not, you would have to do some vaccinations. If you never been vaccinated against Hep B, you can sign declination form to put it off for some time, because it takes about 6 months to complete those series. Also, they require Tdap (pertussis) not just a TD (tetorifice, diphteria). A good news that you can fax them all your information after you are done instead of mailing it. I hope, it will help!

I noticed in that list of requirements, where you directed me yesterday that besides of BSL certificate, we have to submit our health card for clinicals. Does it mean that they have to issue us our health cards once we finish our health requirements. Do you know anything about it? Thanks again.

Do we have to take BLS? I didn't know... Is it written somewhere in requirements or it is just to be more prepared for the program?

Hi guys, I was accepted for FACT program too. I got e-mail from Niki yesterday with information about our orientation day. It is going to be on Tuesday 19th of May. Although the day when our program starts is not set yet, but she said that according to past years it could be on the very next day after orientation. Now, I am on my way of getting together all my medical stuff, child abuse and police clearance report. I am thinking about Financial Aid too, but I haven't started that process yet. If I know anything more, I will let you know:)

I got my Welcome letter from Jefferson today! I loged in to their web site. Our orientation day is going to be on the 22d of May. Yeah, I did my child abuse and police background a couple of weeks ago, but they require it to be done in 2009 and by their service. I don't know about physical, maybe, it is good for a year. I just did my TB test for a new job, it is good for a year. Also, they require lab tests for surface antibodies for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Hepatitis B. It is good that we still have plenty of time! If I know anything new, I will let you know! Congratulations again!
