  1. Antidepressants and Hospitalization

I was doing some CE not long ago for pharmacy, and I had to do one on cancer pain. The article was discussing terminally ill cancer patients and how toward the end, they often request assisted suicide. It stressed that these patients (who were TERMIN...
  2. law school

If I survive the next 3 years of nursing school, I absolutely plan to go on to law. I like the idea of having a strong medical background and something I love to fall back on, and, ahem, knowing where all the bones are buried, lol. I've heard from se...
  3. What career would you suggest

Before I was accepted to nursing school, I was pursuing my associates in respiratory therapy. There was no wait list, and it took 2 years flat. Clinicals started the third semester. I loved it! Had I not wanted to have a wider scope of practice (or f...
  4. 'Moral values' and organ donation

I guess I'm confused here...assuming that the cases in which recipients contracted cancer due to the donated organs are valid - aren't most people who recieve organs going to die if they don't get a transplant? And aren't organs terribly difficult to...
  5. What career would you suggest

http://stats.bls.gov/oco/ That is the link to the online Occupational Outlook handbook...it's great, you can type in any career and find out salary ranges, outlook, etc.
  6. 'Moral values' and organ donation

Posted by NiobiusSwan: Posted by NurseGuy_in_06: Alright...this is what I was referring to in that rather long paragraph. I feel that morality encompasses more than merely a lack of specific sins...NurseGuy, I admit I am not as biblically liter...
  7. 'Moral values' and organ donation

It would be immoral to have a government mandate. I absolutely agree. But I'm curious, why do you think it's NOT immoral to not donate your organs?
  8. 'Moral values' and organ donation

No, I don't think that everyone should leave their assets to the poor, though it's a nice thought. More than likely, their family can utilize those assets. But chances are, most family members aren't going to have any use for some spare organs.
  9. 'Moral values' and organ donation

Okay, here is why I would perceive it as immoral...and that word isn't exactly the best adjective, but in any case... Let's say I am dead. I have a body, organs that could save many lives. I am not going to be using them. I do not need them. Meanwhil...
  10. 'Moral values' and organ donation

True, some people might find it immoral to donate or receive...but what we're discussing (I thought) was WHY. Some people may find it immoral to tell the truth as well or to save a stray dog on the highway...but that doesn't mean it should be general...
  11. 'Moral values' and organ donation

Yes, some of my friends are. I stated in my FIRST post that I know some wonderful Christians, I elaborated in my second. Does that clear up the confusion? Perhaps you're wondering why I would sound so harsh regarding Christians in my first post...I t...
  12. 'Moral values' and organ donation

Perhaps you are right, I apologize for not being more careful about making generalizations. As I said previously, I have met some wonderful people who are Christians...some of my best friends are...perhaps I should allow the possibility that there ar...
  13. Poor America doles our substandard social policy

As I am only a nursing student, I cannot speak for how it affects nursing as well as I'd like to. But, from my pharmacy experience, I can point out one way. I cannot tell you the number of chronically ill patients who were non-compliant on their medi...
  14. 'Moral values' and organ donation

I always seem to get in on these conversations after there are already 21 pages of responses, so forgive me if I miss something. I just don't have time to read the 21 pages! In response to the very first post, I believe I understand what you are sayi...
  15. Offended by Prayer

    :rotfl:
  16. Offended by Prayer

I completely agree. I would feel blessed that the nurse cared enough to pray. As long as it was done in love, I would feel honored.
  17. When One Child Is Enough

I completely agree. What's more, I doubt that the very people opposing abortion the most will even tolerate an adequate portion of their taxes going toward buying these kids some milk and peanut butter. I am generalizing here - I admit it - but I alw...
  18. Surrogacy ? How do you feel about it?

It's the Catholic church that is against it - at least according to my friend. She is incredibly devout, so she's probably right. The basic reasoning she gave me is that you are interfering with God's will. She thinks (and she bases this on Catholic ...
  19. does hypoxia hurt

If the baby was going to die regardless, isn't it better that his demise was speedy? For that child's sake, and the sake of its parents, I am glad they gave him morphine, so he could go as comfortably and with as little fear as possible.
  20. When One Child Is Enough

And the results are TRAGIC - beyond belief. Not just for the women - though that should be enough - but for the children as well. There's just no way around it. These women and kids go thru hell. There is no end to what unplanned, and especially unw...
  21. When One Child Is Enough

I agree completely. Well, I suppose it is a life, technically, as is bacteria, as are fetal pigs, as are many things. I remember looking at a pig fetus and a human fetus in one of my science classes - I don't remember what gestational age they were -...
  22. When One Child Is Enough

If it's me that you are addressing your "Judge me" comment to, try reading my entire post before you decide to make such statements. I will say this again, one more time...my point is that none of us should be judging others based on reproductive ch...
  23. When One Child Is Enough

Then he was relinquishing his choice right there and made a conscious choice to do so. If you are having unprotected sex with a woman, you should know what her thoughts are on these issues, because if you do not want an abortion to take place and you...
  24. When One Child Is Enough

One more thing - fathers do have a say. They can wear a condom.
  25. When One Child Is Enough

My point is being misinterpreted. I am saying that it is just as easy to judge those who choose not to adopt - the point being, let's stop judging! We shouldn't be judging (in my opinion) this woman, just as we should not be juding those who choose n...
