Schools that require you to find a preceptor (rant)
This quote is exactly why the AMA and physicians look down on nurse practitioners so much. We do not do the same job as a physician. We are nurse practitioners, nurses with advanced training to use the nursing process to provide primary care for our patients. Please do not add fuel to the fire and give physicians and the medical association more reason to hate NPs, they spend enough money on lobbyists to prevent us from working to our full potential as it is.

How did you choose your online RN to BSN completion program?
I really think what matters is that you make sure you go to an accredited school. Getting a job afterwards is about passing the test and selling yourself.

How did you choose your online RN to BSN completion program?
I didn't. I just graduated FNP school, passed my test, and am working as a Family Nurse Practitioner. All of which was done through "for profit", "online" schools. I did my BSN and MSN through WGU. My post-masters cert through Kaplan, which is now Purdue Global.

FNP Board Prep - pretest scores
Don't get me wrong. The test is hard. I credit my years of working private practice as an RN as to how I passed. The entire time I was taking it i was positive I failed. Read the questions carefully, and don't second guess yourself.

How did you choose your online RN to BSN completion program?
WGU. Cheap, accredited, finished in six months for my RN-BSN. 1.5 Years for my MSN.

FNP Board Prep - pretest scores
My school did the Barkley review, and my scores were similar. Then I answered every single question in the Leik book, then took the test. Passed on the first try.

Need help deciding on an FNP school- feedback wanted!
I have never seen an ad that said they wouldn't hire an FNP from a for profit school. I graduated from a for profit school, and had a job offer before I even took my exam. The exam I took 10 days after graduating, and passed. I believe it is more in how you sell yourself. Yes i had to find my own preceptors, but I can list three brick and mortar schools that require the same thing.

has anyone worked for LHI doing C & P exams?
Yes. The DBQ forms will be endless. Since I messaged you, my company had decided not to continue with she exams, so I am not doing them at all. They just want very specific wording on your reports. They should provide you with plenty of sample documentations. I hope. Good luck!

has anyone worked for LHI doing C & P exams?
I can tell you about C&P exams, I don't know about LHI. Many companies are performing them. Send me a private message if you want.

Anyone do the Kaplan online NP program?
Thank you! I did work full time throughout the program. I already had a masters from another college, so I just did the post-masters cert. It took me just about a year and a half because I had trouble finding a preceptor once. I arranged my schedule at work so that I worked every Thursday-Sunday night shift, and then did my clinicals on Tuesday-Thursday. Basically, I was exhausted all of the time, but in the end, it's worth it.

Best live review for AANP?
I didn't do any live review. I had the printed Barkley and the newest Leik book. Took the AANP test 11 days after graduation (today), and passed.

Anyone do the Kaplan online NP program?
Kaplan is a for-profit school as far as I know. It's my understanding that Purdue is acquiring them and that will change. Honestly, I don't think once you have your certification, and license, anyone is really going to care where you went to school as long as they are accredited. I had a job offer before I graduated from one of the clinics I precepted at, so I think it's all in how you present yourself.
-
NP boards- will I know of I pass right away??
You get a pass/fail when you finish the test. You don't get your scores or certificate until they have all your final transcripts and whatnot.

Anyone do the Kaplan online NP program?
Thanks! I passed! I took the AANP test today!

Anyone do the Kaplan online NP program?
I just graduated December 23 from the Kaplan post-masters FNP program. I am in Texas. The program was fine. You really need to be able to teach yourself though. Like many online schools there aren't any lectures, just assignments and readings. You have to find your own preceptors, which wasn't bad here in Texas, I just networked a lot! Give me a month and I'll tell you if I passed my certification test or not. I think that will be the real deciding factor on how good the school is.

WGU RN-BSN December 2017. Advice/support appreciated!
It has been a few years since I did my BSN with WGU (2011), but I don't think it has changed too much. It's still competency based, so if you know the material already, you can zip through the classes. I did mine in 6 months. Follow the rubrics exactly, and you'll do just fine. They have a good library you can access online. Use your mentor, that's why they are there.

online FNP
I am about to graduate from Kaplan's post-masters FNP program in 6 weeks. Those of you that are talking trash about for-profit schools really have no idea what you're talking about. They are convenient and don't require the same ridiculous busy work that many brick and mortar schools require, and I'm okay with that. What you really need to ensure is that your school is accredited. If they are not, then you are wasting your money. No matter what school you go to it is about what you put into it. Having an instructor standing in front of the room does not guarantee that you're going to have the best education. Even traditional schools are often requiring people to find their own preceptors, its not unusual.

WGU BSN to NP school?
After my bachelors, I was accepted to the University of Alaska Anchorage, and Eastern Kentucky University (but for a different Masters program). I then decided to just get my MSN from WGU in nurse leadership in management. After that, I was accepted to Kaplan, Walden, Chamberlain, and Grand Canyon University is still harassing me to sign up. I went with Kaplan. The price is good, and the program is accredited. I'll finish up this December.

WGU BSN to NP school?
I currently live in Texas, but was living in Alaska. I haven't started looking for FNP jobs because I don't graduate until December. I haven't decided if I will stay here for move back to Alaska.

WGU BSN to NP school?
Yes, I was accepted into three programs after graduating from WGU. One was a state college program, two were online programs. I'm finishing up my FNP post-masters cert this year.

Doctoral degree and NP employment
I think this depends on where you are. I myself have a MSN and cannot get a single phone call for any clinical positions. However, when I took that off my resume, I did. I've found there are a lot of experienced nurses that do not wish to have someone with more education working for them. The job I am in now, my supervisor tries to argue with me every day just to prove she is smarter and more experienced than I am.

Western Governors University Competency Based MSN Program
They are CCNE accredited. It will depend on the school you are applying to though. I have not had a problem using my BSN from there to get into two different master programs, but due to cost and time, I went back to WGU. I just finished my MSN two weeks ago so I haven't had a chance t o try it out yet. Most employers don't require a GPA from what I've seen.

Legally Protect the word "Nurse?"
I greatly beg to differ and am slightly offended. I am a registered nurse who is working on her thesis for her MSN and I work in a primary care clinic. Right along side 13 other RN's. You should not assume. Directly ask who you're talking to before you misjudge. Yes there are MA's here as well, but you should never just assume.
