  1. Hypoglycemic Symptoms But Still Elevated Glucose

If the patient is unable to swallow or is unconcious and you don't have IV access you can go the rectal route with any liquid containing glucose.
  2. How can I comfort the crying patient?

I'm not a nurse yet but I would think a hug and sitting holding their hand or just touching them lightly on the arm would mean alot to them. Just be a good listener. Great question.
  3. Your boss insists on employees taking flu vaccine

I got the flu last year too. I think more people did than ever before. I think they missed a strain? or something like that. Likely as not I'll take it again this year.
  4. Your boss insists on employees taking flu vaccine

No one can make you take the flu vaccine they can however ask you to sign a form that says you decline to take it. It's no big deal.
  5. She is sleeping with a patient.............

I think you should probably stay out of her business, seems like she's getting into trouble all by herself.
  6. Anyone ever have to do CPR outside of their job?

My Mother a nurse, has done CPR in public x 2. Both times there were no pulse or respirations. One lived, one didn't. My father is a cardiac surgeon but has never done CPR in public.
  7. Am I wrong?

Comment?...it may be time to change doctors or let it go...your choice
  8. Am I wrong?

TYour post deserves more than the push of a Thank You button... Thank You !! :bowingpur
  9. Am I wrong?

You already knew that so what is the point? To reach the physician on call push #1. If this is an emergency please go directly to the ER. Doctors cover for each other that's the way it works. You won't reach the 15 doctors you specifically called.
  10. What's your favorite Allnurses thread?

I like the nursing ethical decisions and nursing current events.
  11. Am I wrong?

So true! She made her complaint, which is her right, it's done, it's over, I personally think she should have complained to the doctor directly. Complaining to the hospital is like Nanner! Nanner! Nanner!
  12. Am I wrong?

Finally the voice of reason. Thank you embarrasingfield. I was wondering how can all these nurses can be so unrealistic. While I think the doctor was WRONG not to tell his patients that he doesn't take call, which in itself is WRONG also, that is par...
  13. Am I wrong?

I stated in my introduction that I am taking prereq's to go to either nursing school or medical school. I'm not hiding anything from anyone. I feel qualified as the daughter of a doctor that doctors deserve their time off just like anyone else. Woul...
  14. MA's know as much as RN's??

They cannot earn the same salary as an RN Doctors earn plenty of money. They live in big houses, drive expensive cars, live very nice lifestyles. They deserve it because they worked hard to get where they are. Doctors can afford to employ licensed...
  15. Question about CMA (Certified Medical Assistants)!!!!

Go to college and get your RN while you're young and you can. Once you get married and have children it becomes much more difficult. MA's make very little compared to RN's. If you get your RN and work for a year on a med/surg floor you can then do tr...
  16. Am I wrong?

I totally disagree but it doesn't matter. You did what you felt you had to do and that's the bottom line.
  17. Am I wrong?

The EGD was 4 days prior to the vomitting of coffee ground material. It wasn't the same day (not that I think that makes any difference). If she feels "ignored" it is not the doctors problem. She is obviously a stickler for details with every symptom...
  18. Am I wrong?

Why should the GI doctor be on call just because she had a complication? That's what ER's are for. The doctor who performed the EGD didn't cause the complication. You're going to throw the GI under the bus because he has a life? Are you on call for ...
  19. compensation while caring for family member

Taking care of your Mom is something you do because you love her, you shouldn't expect the insurance company to pay you. It's your choice to do so, not theirs.
  20. Am I wrong?

I meant to say the hospital does not contol when or when not a doctor is on call. My father is a doctor (cardiologist) and he deserves not to be bothered if he is not on call. Every patient thinks they are the most important patient and that they sh...
  21. Am I wrong?

I don't think you're right and here's why. If your GI was not on call he had no obligation what-so-ever to see you. You don't know if he was even in town. He didn't admit you, he didn't have to see you. You went to the ER and were appropriately treat...
  22. Nurses Respond to my Titer Question ASAP

My sister had two Rubella vaccines and she her last titer showed that she's not immune. She was told it can go either way.
  23. compensation while caring for family member

I know a nurse who did this and got into alot of trouble for insurance fraud because the mother's insurance (Medicare) did not allow a family member to be paid to care for the patient.
  24. Most RN's first borns?

    4th born no alcoholics.
  25. Where to sell textbooks at?

I've heard that www.half.com is the best way to sell used textbooks and get more money for them than selling them back.
