  1. Would you ever own a motorcycle? YES or NO?

You bet. I own one. So does my hubby. I always ride with a full face helmet and gear. I am careful, much more careful than when I drive a car, actually--you have to drive not only YOUR vehicle but everyone else on the road's too when you're the one o...
  2. Honest thoughts on Job Market

Worst I've ever seen it. Moved from a state where hospitals were doing layoffs, hoping to find work easier, took months to find a job here, not even a 'good' job, just ANY job.
  3. Trying my best to get out of it now!
  4. I want to leave nursing....now what do I do?!

I am right there with you! I hate my job. Not just this particular job, I just got a new job, and it's not too bad, considering. I mean, I hate nursing. I want desperately to do something else. But I can't figure out what! I can't afford to go back ...
  5. OK, so I am whining but....

I can totally empathize with you. I just moved to a different state, and it took me three months to find a job. I thought moving to a large city would make it simple, but apparently there is no 'nursing shortage' here. Anyway, keep at it. Ask around,...
  6. So much worse, you would not believe. If I knew then what I know now, I would have run so far the other direction, they'd never find me! Why, you ask? Low pay, crappy hours, tons of responsibility with no authority, no backing from management, you're...
  7. The Type of Nurse I Don't Want to Become

Bwahahahahaha!!!!!! :lol2: Let me know where your little fantasy world is, so I can move there too, after you've actually been a nurse for a decade or two. Hee hee. That was funny.
  8. What age will you retire?

When I'm dead, or when I'm smart enough to find a job in a different field....
  9. Do you regret going into nursing?

Every day of my life. The only good thing about it is that it pays the bills. If I would have had even the SLIGHTEST clue ahead of time of what I was really getting myself into, there is no way I would have done it. If I would have gone into healthca...
  10. Those who want to get out of nursing..

Thinking about going back to school for a degree in ultrasound tech. Better hours, same pay, less stress.
  11. Saying No

Just say no. I do. My family is FAR more important to me than my job. I work only to put food on the table. If I had the choice, I would be home with my kids every day. They are my priority. It is not my responsibility to fill every hole in the sched...
  12. Options for Nurses who HATE nursing.

I'm looking at going back to school to be an ultrasound tech. Better hours, same pay, less stress. Sounds good to me! That or physical therapy. Definitely not resp therapy, and rad techs don't get better hours or pay either. I'd love a desk job, but ...
  13. Oh yeah. The old "if I knew then what I know now". I desperately wish I would have been a PT or OT, or even a radiology tech, or ANYTHING other than nurse. Most work 8-5 M-F, no holidays, no weekends, no overtime, no on-call, none of the blame and cr...
  14. I'd be gone in a second, even for a job with slightly lower pay. That's the problem, I don't know how to do anything else that could support my family. If I did....the door wouldn't have a chance to hit me on the way out!
  15. For my job? "She works hard for the money!" (so you better treat her right)
  16. I carry mine, on vibrate. I have kids. If they get sick or hurt, I need to know it. I only check my messages when I'm on a break or at lunch. I am an adult, and know not to yak on company time.
  17. How many hours would you work?

    8. Not a minute more, if that would pay my bills. That would be my dream come true--that, or not working at all!
  18. Oh no! please...please not that

Suctioning trachs. :barf02:The sound, mostly. I can do poop, puke, blood, anything but huge thick loogies!
  19. call pay

We get $2/hr on call, regular pay when we get called in. :grn::vlin:
  20. Not at all. I've been told I'm a very good nurse, and I'd rather not be doing it. My 'calling' is to be a Mom. I wish I didn't have to work at all. But since I do right now, I take my job seriously, and try my best at it, and apparently it pays off. ...
  21. What's your patient load?

Med-Surg, days, 4-8 (usually 5-6). Our grid varies tremendously. Nights is usually 8-10, can be 6-12.
  22. Any nurses out there still wearing a cap?

I never got one. I've seen a few, and I mean only a few of the older nurses still wear one. Like, one or less at each facility I've worked at. I think they just get in the way--always hitting on IV poles, TV's bracketed to the walls, monitors, etc. J...
  23. Does taking low census look bad?

They're going to give it to somebody if it's available, and you're saving your co-workers who need the hours on their check some money. I appreciate it when one of our staff volunteers, it means I get paid!
  24. Day shift nurses needed...WHAT??!!

I've worked every shift, only one I just can't do is nights--I get physically sick from lack of sleep, the job itself is ok. I work days now for one reason...KIDS. If it was just me and hubby, I'd be back on evenings getting the shift diff.
  25. The worst or strangest orders you have seen...

My Dr. ordered some ativan for me when my dad died suddenly. I was losing it, and I was glad I had it to get some sleep, even though I certainly never asked him for it. Gave some to my mom too. She never took it, but should have. My order: a few day...
