  1. Age you will/were graduated?

me too! I feel so old saying that even though there are so many people older than me going back to school for nursing.
  2. You'll be fine. There's a lot that you learn working as a CNA in a hospital that you will never learn from any textbook or clinical experience. Just don't be afraid to ask questions and learn from your mistakes and you'll be fine.
  3. The Low Down on Nursing Homes...Is It All That Bad?

I work as an aide in a nursing home, and I've been told by several of the more experienced RNs that new grads should not start out in long-term care and should work in a hospital environment for at least two years after nursing school to get a broade...
  4. help! how to quit

Wow...thanks for all the advice everybody...I have my interview tomorrow morning to find out if I get the job, so I won't do anything rash until then.
  5. help! how to quit

I don't know if this is exactly CNA-related, but I'm currently a LTC CNA. It started out terrible, and two months later it's gotten a little better, but I never really felt like I fit in there, and frankly, geriatrics just isn't my thing. Well, I fin...
  6. Has anybody taken A&P online?

I just got offered a CNA job at the local hospital, which I've been dying to get for like a year, but the only catch is, they already employ so many pre-nursing and nursing students that they need me to work week days and I would have to take my clas...
  7. Taking the CNA Plunge

Congrats on finishing up your class (I assume, anyway). I live in Wyoming, but grew up in SW Washington, so reading that you're in Portland made me a little homesick. I also went into my CNA class with an "advanced degree" ...well, it was a Bachelor'...
  8. Just starting and already discouraged.

Good for you for using the lifts. Remember though, even though nobody practices it this way, most lifts (at least Hoyer-style) should be operated by two-people. It's really tough to get a dependent patient situated correctly in their wheelchair while...
  9. unprofessionalism?

Thanks everybody. I decided today to go talk to the DON, but when I went in she was meeting w/ corporate. If it doesn't change in a few weeks...month at the longest, I'm going to apply at the hospital. I've always wanted to work there anyways. The on...
  10. Wages around the country?

I'm in Eastern Wyoming. Nursing homes pay between $11-12/hr for CNAs, the hospital here pays 12-14, and rumor has it that our new neuro hospital is paying $17...too bad they're not hiring.
  11. What kind of shoes do you wear?

I wear New Balances with gel arch supports along with mild medical compression knee-high socks and my feet feel great at the end of the day. I tried wearing my Crocs a couple of times but halfway through the shift my feet are dead. We're also discour...
  12. I almost changed my major because of chem...

I guess I'm lucky. My school doesn't require chem for the nursing major, but I took chem 4 years ago at another school when I initially started my prenursing classes. Not my favorite. My advice is try to find out which profs teach chem and which one...
  13. Need advice from experienced RNs

Hi, I'm only a CNA/ pre-nursing student but I needed some advice from some nurses who have been around awhile and might know my situation. I've been working as a CNA in a LTC facility for exactly two weeks now and I want to quit already. LTC just isn...
  14. Microbiology - Summer 2008

Good luck to all of you taking a 5-week Micro course this summer. I'm taking an 8-week summer course and it seems like it's going really fast as it is. My prof doesn't lock the doors, but he will publicly humiliate you if you're late. Seems like it'l...
  15. unprofessionalism?

I just started my first job as a LTC CNA (two days in) and I almost walked out yesterday, not because of the residents or the demands of the job of any of that. It's just that the staff (mostly the CNAs) are so crude and unprofessional. Most of them ...
