Has anybody taken A&P online?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I just got offered a CNA job at the local hospital, which I've been dying to get for like a year, but the only catch is, they already employ so many pre-nursing and nursing students that they need me to work week days and I would have to take my classes online. I'm taking psych and A&P this fall. Psych is no big deal to take online, but I've heard that you can miss out on a lot by taking A&P online because you don't have the cadavers to work with. Has anybody actually taken A&P online, and how was it?

Hi, our school did not offer cadavers. I took my A & P online and it was fine. The thing I like about online classes is that the class never ends. You can be online 24/7 and go over and over whatever you need. Teachers are still available to you for help. The Tests were proctored, meaning you had to go to the school to take the tests. I got an A in the course and don't feel I missed anything.

I just completed A&P online. I got a B, but I earned that B. I studied as much as possible. I was also taking Statistics online, which is a very time consuming class, and I THINK I got a B in it. I'm still waiting for my grade.

Can you take evening classes? I took most of my pre-reqs in the evening because I worked fulltime and had 2 kids. I still work fulltime and now have 3 kids, which is why I'm taking all of my classes online now.

I took A&P I and II online and I absolutely loved it. I didn't feel like I missed a thing. We had to go to the campus on 2 Saturdays during the semester. They were all day labs. We did everything that the on campus students did. We just did it all in two days. Our tests were online except for our finals which were taken on campus during our final Saturday lab. My teacher recorded her on campus lectures and posted them as podcasts so we could listen to them. She also posted extensive notes. Assuming your teacher does well teaching you, you will have no problems and you won't miss a thing. BTW, I got an A in both classes. Even though they were online, I still had to study my butt off. So don't think that taking it online is going to short your knowledge.

You can do it!

I'm taking a hybrid anatomy class in Fall, where I have to go to campus once every two weeks (at night) for a lab session. I think it will be fine. I also work weekdays, full time, and I've taken most of my classes online or at night. I would look into night classes if you're worried about missing stuff.

I also did the Hybrid A&P class. We had lab 3 hrs on Wednesday nights, and tests were on-campus. I loved it! I got a 'B' by a hair, but that was because of me, not the class. You have to be disciplined or become disciplined in a hurry! I started off with an 'F' average on lab tests and a 'D' average on lecture tests until I got my act together. I ended up with a 'B' average in Lab and Lecture only after I really organized myself, and forced myself to study. I am pretty sure I could have made an 'A' if I had just gotten in gear sooner. I won't make that mistake again this Fall with

A&P II!!

honestly, i would not recomend it. A&P is hard - but more important - i think it's very necessary. the material i learned in one lab of A&PI was enough to keep me busy for a week - i don't see how everything can truely be covered in a condensed version of the lab. if u want to move up in nursing you have to have a very solid understanding of the body and honestly - i've taken online classes and just felt that everything was simplified. I wouldn't want the nurse who is examining me to tell me she took her anatomy courses online because without a physical body to refer to and a knowledgable instructor sitting you down during classtime and going over stuff - i mean u just miss a lot. Diagrams in books aren't always the best. Sometimes it can be missleading. In my opinion - nursing isn't something u can learn online. period. but then - i'm kind of anti online education.

For alot of my classmates, our lab was like a class in and of itself, that is just how involved it was. This is where I think a hybrid class comes in. If you can read on your own, you can do the lecture online, but it really brought things to life having a 3 hour lab, and those tests were no joke! Having over 100 bones spread out on a table and having to identify each one for your test was...not easy!

I have to disagree but then I'm PRO online education. It really depends on the person and their learning style. It isn't for everyone. I also disagree that it is simplified. Maybe some of them are but the A&P class I took wasn't...they used the same pool of questions for ALL A&P finals, traditional or online. I slept through class and barely studied to get a C the first time I took A&P. When I took it online, I studied my butt off for a B. It most certainly was not simplified.

I personally didn't learn ANYTHING from dissecting a cat the first time I took A&P. That was the closest thing to a physical body that we got in lab.

Hey there! I took A&P in a classroom - and really REALLY wished I'd taken it on-line. You spend a decent amount of time studying - and for me, I felt like I was teaching myself anyway. The lectures were more or less useless to me. Is there a lab that will have a tech, or is the instructor available when you have questions?

I'd say take it on-line.

Oh, and my basic A&P class didn't use cadaveurs... that was a separate lab. So can't help you there.
