    RN NCLEX licensure, help!!!!!

Presuming OP is successful with the next NCLEX, it may still be extremely difficult to land a job. My organization (and many others) very seldom hires a "new" grad that has allowed >6 months to elapse before taking NCLEX.... 4 years? No way.

    PICO question help!

If you want to give it twist, you could focus on examination of factors that increase Cord Banking (desired outcome). What has your lit search turned up? (hint, hint, hint).

PICO -T for nurse retention. PLEASE HELP

Start with a literature search on nurse retention (your population is employed nurses). Turnover (lack of retention) is the Problem. But you need to define your problem in terms of data, not your opinion... that's why you need the lit review. This ...

    Tetralogy of Fallot

OK - you don't understand the effects of reduced pulmonary blood flow? I think you may be focusing too much on the lungs an an organ rather than the function that they perform. One of the major effects of Tetralogy is pulmonary shunting though that...

Working, Volunteering and Going to School?

I admire your moxie. I worked full time during undergrad, graduate & doctoral programs. I'm not unique - it's certainly doable. You may run into scheduling difficulties when you begin your clinicals. Hopefully, you'll be able to flex around t...

Turned a Corner at Six Months In:)

Thank you so much for sharing this information. We COBs are always telling newly licensed nurses that "It gets better" and advising them to tough it out during those first crucial months.... It's so nice to have some validation. Congratulations on ...

    I need help with A&P2

I don't want to increase the stress - but you really need to LEARN this stuff. You're going to need to apply it in future classes. If you are just memorizing "factoids", you're going to be absolutely lost in clinical courses. That's when you have ...

    RN to BSN

If you're referring to an exam (e.g., HESI, TEAS, etc) required for the program, you need to check with them since there is no standardization among programs. Good luck!

Can you become an RN at age 19?

I think that the only hard stops would be your state's regulations about handling some pharmaceuticals (narcotics). In many states, you have to be 21 - just like serving alcohol.

A&P 1 not going so well...

Have you met with your instructor to discuss strategies to improve your performance? He/she has the information needed to suggest solutions - we can only offer advice. Nursing education is not an accommodating curriculum. Everyone is held to the ...

New grad in a new state

In my part of the country, the ONLY pathway to employment in most hospitals is through a residency program. They simply do not do any "direct" hires any more because they want to ensure that all new grads are provided with a consistent level of supp...
  14. As reflected by some PPs, if you become too involved with coworkers, it can potentially interfere with your work. For instance, what if you saw your good friend /coworker cutting corners or jeopardizing patient safety... it could really create a mes...

    Worst shift, now depressed.

Good grief. I'll bet that somewhere in your organization's Code of Conduct or HR Rulebook, it has a prohibition of disrespectful behavior. Take a look and see. If so, you should take appropriate actions (e.g., variance or incident report) so that t...

    Is my textbook wrong?

NOPE - that's correct. Empathy is the ability to understand the other person's situation without actually sharing their emotional state. It's an essential skill for clinicians. We have to remain sufficiently detached in order to function at peak ca...

    Switch Major to Nursing

While you're contemplating what to do, take a look at THIS listing of healthcare occupations. Nursing may be the most familiar, but as you can see, it is not the only job. There are many jobs with approximately the same amount of educational prepar...

Quit first RN job after 9 months?

Please let your supervisor know how you feel. If you don't feel comfortable talking to him/her, talk to your educator or your HR representative. You're not going to receive help/support if no one knows that you need it... they can't read your mind....

    Nurse residency/work requirement

There is no standard requirement - each program is different. You will need to look at the terms of the residency contract for answers to your questions.

2017 Studying in the Philippines for Nursing

Please be aware that the climate for any "professional" immigrants may be in for radical change under the new administration. It is already affecting some professional sectors & there has been a lot of discussion about proposed changes to H1-B v...

Worried about turning in my two weeks

PP was absolutely correct... do not resign until you have another job lined up. Resigning after such a short time - especially for a new grad - is a huge red flag to any prospective employer. You could find yourself frozen out of any other job for ...

Graduated with a BS 9 years ago as PrePharm

For most schools in my area, all the science-y pre-reqs expire after 5 years. When you retake them, some schools will drop the old (expired) grade which would be a benefit for you. The only exception would be the accelerated programs which utilize ...
