  1. I don't have any insight into credentialing outside of the US but I can tell you that they are strict about paperwork and the process tends to take awhile. Good luck! I love my job!!
  2. I apologize for voicing thoughts and not digging up facts that may or may not support my thoughts. I just come here to unwind after work.
  3. The proficiency process needs a long haul update! Nobody should be as stressed as we get doing a yearly proficiency!! We looked at the amount of monthly proficiencies and the days the committee meats and we figure about 5 minutes per proficiency. All of that work so they can judge you in a few minutes. Grrrr. Not to mention if your not a good writer and trying to break down what they want in terms you actually understand. Grrr.
  4. Our inpatients are just about half and half. Half are fully vaccinated and half aren't. I was off of work for nearly a month with covid in November. I am fully vaxxed and my hubs refuses to get vaxxed. He tested negative 2 times and never got it. We are so quick to blame and judge. As nurses we care for those that are sick. Some do believe forcing a vaccine on them is unreasonable. Who out there didn't know that this fall/Winter was going to see a huge step in those needing care? I'm in the Midwest and every fall/Winter we catch and spread everything. Now we have nurses coming back after 5 days still sick but can't afford to stay home. Good times
  5. I've seen nurses come back that are symptomatic. They just don't have the time to stay home and they say as much. I was out for almost a month in November. Used almost all of my sick time. I get it but it's playing with fire. Management loves it though
  6. Take care of you now! Experiencing suicidal ideation is a huge red flag. The high anxiety you state you're having can directly affect the SI as well. Your whole post screams high anxiety. These are such difficult days in nursing. I really want you to make an appointment with mental health and if those feelings of SI become more intense and a plan forms, call 911 and get help. We don't want to lose you!
  7. What's the ICD?
  8. And I would also like to know if the nurse needs to chart on all 19 pts or is charting by exception done at the facility. Surely the nurse knows the tasks involved for the CNA to complete. I worked many yrs as a CNA so I'm on it with the team work. I like to stay busy but I've worked with a lot that are lazy and really would rather sit then be out in the milieu. I did want to clarify a point the OP was making regarding the role of the CNA to assist the nurse with basic tasks such as bathing etc. It is well within the nurses role to delegate tasks. Now if she's delegating so she can sit on her phone or do very little, then that is just poor nursing. If she needs to chart on 19 pts, then she is closer to sainthood and needs to delegate. Great point about asking for help! I never even thought along those lines. I just went right to the lazy nurse route
  9. We have 2 RN's that recently transferred in from other states. It takes a while cause..well it is the VA.....
  10. If the charges were dismissed and it was like 20yrs ago, I'm not sure how of if it would affect your chances. Have you talked with a school about it? Does it show up when you check yourself?
  11. I've been paying double or triple on my loans since the government deferred payments. I just read they are deferred again through the end of May of 2022. I'm hoping to knock off a few more grand before the interest starts up. Living lean and not spending a lot on fun things has helped a lot
  12. Did you actually get written up or did she print out what you charted to make a point? I just can't believe she didn't just approach you and tell you to chart BM next time. Jeez
  13. I would think that they would escort you pronto to have a UDS done...
  14. To the OP, if I'm reading this correctly, you work on a behavioral health unit with 19pts and the LPN didn't lift a finger to help out?!? I give you kudos for not going off. That is just poor nursing on her part. I always help out but understand this, no matter where you go there will always be a few lazy ones.
  15. I've been considering testing for the CARN but have not been able to find any good study guides. I recently found Statpearls has an online study/test/ceu guide that includes over 300 questions/answers with rationals. I was absolutely pumped and signed up for 6 months. I have been working with substance abuse for over 8yrs. After doing some of these questions, I feel like I've been living in a fantasy land. Has anyone checked this out and maybe is working through these? I have to admit, it is so much more difficult than the ANCC Psych certification. I am not doing well at all and am wondering if the exam is going to be as difficult...
  16. We have 4 covid pts as of yesterday. I've heard other hospitals in the area are filling up, but I don't work there so I can't be sure.
  17. Time to let that edge go and move on. Perhaps your instructor saw something that you didn't. It could be an ease in your partner/pt relationship, your partner could have been more comfortable. It sounds like both did very well. Please try not to worry about anyone else or their grades. Just get comfortable and keep gaining the knowledge base so you'll be confident in your own skills
  18. I went to a tech school then a BSN Completion Program. How many more classes do you have to take yet? Nursing classes are intense, not gonna lie. Sounds like you may already be part time, but it's time to think about what you want now. I went to school later in life while I had 2 littles at home. My advise would be to figure it now because life takes over and the less responsibilities you have the better. It's so hard to study with children and work. You sound a bit burned out as well. Take a day or two to regroup and seriously consider what you want to do in the next couple of years. LPN is great. I did that as well. I was also a CNA for many years prior to LPN. Many tech colleges have a LPN with a RN tract available. It's still a hard program so be prepared to dig in and keep working hard! Good luck to you
  19. I quit my union after about 3-4yrs. I asked where my union dues actually went and nobody could give me an answer. I requested a union hand book several times and was always told they were in the process of revising it. They did very little to help the employee who requested their union rep. Then I found out that our union donates to political candidates and I was done. I think that's where much of the dues go and I normally vote the opposite.
  20. Nope, I would not disclose a past mental health history. Stick to the professional end of the questions. I think the knowledge that you have will definitely help your interview. Good luck!
  21. .9 is 72hrs per pp. I work 8hr days. I wish we had 10hr days but alas a few 12's are given and that is not consistent.
  22. I love working at the VA! There are a lot of programs for our Veterans and I agree that word of mouth is what helps other Vets get connected into some of these lesser known programs. That can make getting services difficult, but please don't give up! Getting reviewed for eligibility should not be difficult especially if you've already have been to any VA. They may have to look in remote data but that goes pretty smoothly once you know how to maneuver around. Many of my patients hear about programs from other Vets who they trust more than any system. Word of mouth is important just like any other healthcare facility. We, at the VA, should always be working on Outreach. I'm sorry Lunah that the person you spoke with didn't seem to take your suggestion seriously. It's a valid point and should be addressed.
  23. I feel there is no one answer to your question. Some don't believe, some believe it is politically motivated and blown up for the fear factor, some fear the unknown, some are too overwhelmed to figure out truth from fiction. I've had 2 tell me they have undergone some health hurdles and can't handle putting one more thing in their body. Those 2 will probably work it out in their heart. The rest, well I wish I had a better answer but I don't know for sure.
  24. We are all trained in using PPE and staying home when we're ill. They are so short staffed now. I can't imagine when they fire those still willing to serve. I do not work in LTC so I have no idea what guidelines they follow. We have mandatory testing on a long term unit where I work. Employees are tested 2X/wk. Again, I will not sit in judgement of my brothers and sisters and will shed tears when they have to face losing their jobs. We have so many staff out with covid right now who are all vaccinated. I have an upper respiratory thing going on. I'm at home needing to use my sick time right now so I don't get anyone sick.
