  1. Good luck with your application. I felt the same way when I was in your shoes. The latest cut off is not 3.86. UNR actually changed the requirements so acceptance is not all GPA based anymore. What gets you in is your interview, GPA and essay (which is done right after the interview). Don't think about the "3.86", this is not the case anymore. Also, be careful because you cannot repeat classes over and over again because those wont be counted anymore. If you need specific info, you can PM me, I'd be happy to answer some questions you may have :)
  2. Hi kjsquared, I noticed from the threads that you are enrolled at TMCC's nursing program. May i ask would you recommend the program to others ? Also, you said that alot of people in your class are going the CNA route on the side, does one automatically qualify to take the CNA exam once they have completed a semester or two of nursing classes ?
  3. The people that don't yet have their positions, are they the ones that signed up with the hospital- Carondelet ? The one thing that i've read about the program that i like is that they make sure everyone makes it to the end for graduation. Is that how it usually is ? In the community college where i live, many students never make it to the end and that's a big concern of mine.
  4. Azdesertflower, which was the best choice of all the sponsoring hopsitals (the ones that kept their end of the contract and hired the students ?) Did u get to pick where you wanted to work ? Do you like where you ended up? They told me that the hospitals are sponsoring again but there is the option to self pay. I would think that they would have backed out if they didnt have positions to offer students. .
  5. So i just called the school and was told the MS program just prepares you to be a nurse generalist (an R.N) not a nurse practioner. They do however have programs for that after one becomes an RN. They offer the online certificates of the DNP. The MS program will begin in May next year and its only 15 months. There is the option to self pay. But they wont tell me the exact tuition. I do like the fact its only 15 months and although expensive the self pay option prevents one from being tied down to a contract for 3 years. For those who graduated from the accelerated BSN program they once offered, do you feel u were prepared to become a nurse ? Did most of the students who began the program make it through to the end ?
  6. Katie, if i were you i would request a forbearance on my loans untill i could register for the next term thus there would be no need to pay them off. If not i would take non nursing classes instead. There is a class that i've heard is a good class for pharm calculations online at ccc.online. Its a one credit class, i plan on taking it in October to help me with calculations before i start nursing school. I think it's a little over 200.00 but its all online. I've heard its a great class from this forum, you should give it a shot before you can reapply to your class.
  7. Gtterbug, Thanks for the info. I've become ireally interested in the part time track for spring 2011 since i have two little boys and thus would not be able to do the full time. Do you know if the schedule in the part time track is intense ? I think the part time track is only one semester longer than the regular track right ? Are those students able to still work ? I would need to bring in some income.
  8. I did not end up applying since i decided not to take A&P 2 this semester but rather this Spring. I dont regret my decision because i'm hoping to apply to another accelrated program in the summer that offers a BSN. I've heard both horrible and good things about the nursing program at TMCC. Its a great program overall and they do graduate skilled nurses but from what i've heard from graduates the teachers are extremely harsh on students. I went to a graduation ceremony for a friend and realized that there were only a handful of graduates from the nursing program and maybe about 5 or less graduated with honors. That scared me a whole lot. I couldn't imagine they have a hard time filling in spots, there are so many applicants every year. What i hate is that even for the traditional program this coming August, all preqs must be completed by next month. Anyway, good luck on getting in. With all that i've heard, i decided it wasn't for me.
  9. From what i hear, Renown is pretty short staffed on nurses. You may wanna try them. Good luck !
  10. Did you notice that they are now offering a part time nursing program ? It just takes longer than the other two programs. Does anyone have experience with the accelerated program ? I will be applying for the accelerated BSN and wanted to ask if there is a high success rate in that program (do most of the students make it to the end ? ).
  11. Can anyone share what the name of the Microbiology text is ? I need to get a used one online. I am hoping to register for the class today. I'm really hoping to get an A since the nursing program i'd like to apply to is very competitive. There are two different teachers teaching it this Fall. Are they both good teachers ?
  12. Does anyone know how soon will students receive a reponse if applying to the Fast track program this coming January?
  13. Hi Clam27, yes i did get a hold of Admissions after numerous attempts. Unfortunatley they are no longer offering the entry level Masters Program. They didn't give me any reason as to why but its no longer an option. Do you know any other schools in nevada offering such a program ?
  14. Hi Taren Koren, Welcome to the allnurses. Well, classes at Apollo will begin August 31st. Clinicals will be held at Renown in Reno. There are three classes starting, 1st, 2nd and 3rd sessions (i was told about 60 spots will be filled). The third session is for those who don't require any prerequisites, they go straight into Nursing classes. The first step is coming in for an information session held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5. After that you will need to schcedule a time to take the Hesi test. Students are given two chances to pass (75%). Once you are done with that then you will be able to meet with the Admissions counselor for an interview and then with financial aid. Financial aid needs to know how you intend to pay for tuition. They wont give you much info untill you meet with them after your Hesi. The tests are scheduled Wednesdays and Fridays and are not too hard. You will be given a calculator to use for the Math portion. The study guide is quite helpful. I bought mine at TMCC's bookstore. There has been over 300 applicants who has applied for this upcoming semester but i think alot of people are deterred by the price. If you already have some pre-reqs then the price is reduced, not too significantly though. You should ask if they are still accepting applications for the August start. Their first deadline was the end of June but the last i heard was that they extended it to the end of July. When you do receive your acceptance letter, you will have about 1 week or less to call and confirm your seat. Good luck with in the process, if you need any more information, i'd be happy to share :typing.
  15. If anyone is interested in the information that i've found PM me and i'll be happy to share.
  16. This doesn't sound fair Michelle, I will find out more information. My husband works at Renown and his supervisor is one of the nursing directors but he also works closely with some of the the hiring managers. I will find out more and post soon.
  17. Yes pretty much. Everything you need to know for the test is in the study guide. Good luck :wink2:
  18. Sorry to hear that Michelle.laree. Did they give you a reason as to why they wont hire you or other graduates from Apollo college ? That seems a little strange since clinicals for apollo college students in Reno will be held at Renown. Do you get the same biased treatment in Las vegas ? I'm sure if this is the case so many potential students at the Reno campus will be dissapointed. Renown is a major hospital here.
  19. Any ELM programs ? Anybody?
  20. Thanks for the well wishes MissAmberCNA, I got into the second class since my Microbiology was six years old and all science classes needed to be under 5 years so i needed to take it again before i could get into the nursing classes. I've been waiting a long time for Apollo to come to Reno and now i won't be able to attend. I guess i will try for T.M.C.C's fast track program but i'm hesitant since i've heard of its not so good reputation with instructors and how competitive it is. I still have Touro University in Henderson in mind. Their price is close to Apollo's tuition however i would qualify for loans if I did the Entry level Masters program. It would just be difficult to up and leave since i do have a family here, a job and kids who are in school. Anyway, good luck at Apollo, I wish you the best too.
  21. Hello all, Can anyone give me some insight on any Entry Level Masters of Nursing programs in Ca that are not too overly competitive to get into and do not require the GRE ? I have a couple degrees in fields other than nursing and I know that private institutuions are my best bet but i'm worried they may be too expensive ? Please share any info you may have. Thanks in advance.
  22. Can anyone please tell me if the ELM program is still available at Touro ? I would like to apply for March. The BSN and BSN-MSN and RN-BSN program are all listed on their website but i can't find any mention on the ELM program anymore. If it is still available, is it considered a graduate program, i need to know for financial aid purposes. You see, i can't receive much aid for undergrad programs but i can receive substantially more for graduate programs since i already have a graduate degree. Please share, i am never able to get a hold of anyone in the nursing department. I'll probably need to fly down to Henderson from Reno just to get some answers from them and not speak to someone's voicemail .
  23. Congratulations MissAmberCNA, I too got accepted into the second class. However, i will need to turn down my spot next week since i wont receive enough financial aid to attend. Pretty sad .
  24. Empyreal, do you know why is it that Touro ELM program is not being advertised on their website any longer ? I can't seem to find it anywhere and i was wondering if it is still being offered. Also, is it considered a graduate program or a bridge ?
  25. Does anyone have any other recommendations ? Preferably in the Henderson Area or near NSC ?
