    Bagging ETT

Thanks for this comprehensive answer - as an adult CTICU nurse with minimal peds experience, this is super interesting!!

    NP residency and salaries

I don't work in a full practice authority state, so I can't speak to that. I would NOT say procedure heavy jobs necessarily command more money - most NP jobs in my area at least are based on experience and negotation rather than the job tasks, and I ...

    NP residency and salaries

Salary is determined more by supply and demand than specialty, and varies widely by location. In my area, acute care jobs tend to pay more than family NP jobs, but they also often involve evenings/nights/weekends/call, so they demand more $$. Again i...

On line NP or On-campus Np? (MA)

Allowing schools to get away with this, and calling it "the norm" does not make it an acceptable option. The school simply cannot guarantee the quality of your education as a provider without managing who is precepting their students.

Acute Care NP without ICU experience?

Yeah but they do a hell of a lot more clinical hours during their program, including critical care.

What was your first AGACNP job?

My first NP job was CT surgical/transplant step-down floor with ICU cross coverage then critical care. I had offers for ICU jobs as a new grad with the system I did all my critical care clinicals with, but it was straight nights and it was a generic ...

    FNP job search gone bad

You took a travel NP job as a new grad, or travel RN job? I am in Pittsburgh and we have a lot of job opportunities, I would say more for ACNP than FNP but certainly for both. COL is low, and salaries can also be low though.

    NP residency and salaries

    1. I don't think you can expect to make "more" after a residency necessarily - it's more that you have a mostly guaranteed job when you're done, and theoretically improved skills and confidence. As above, a lot of places give "extra credit" so you ad...

Adding second CRNP specialty in Pennsylvania

PA BON has always been suuuuuuper slow. Thanks for the informative post!

    NP or Perfusionist?

I am an acute care adult NP in a SICU and care for various surgical patients but mostly cardiothoracic surgical postop. Obviously I work in the hospital but I do 3 x12s, no weekend or holidays (which is rare) because it is a large teaching hospital a...

On line NP or On-campus Np? (MA)

There are a lot of reputable programs that use online delivery of education. I would find one that provides your clinical sites, unless you already have good connections, because I read a lot about people having to defer their courses due to inabilit...

Acute Care NP without ICU experience?

If you're graduating as an NP, do not go get ICU RN experience. Find a critical care residency/fellowship for NPs.

    Canada’s preparedness compared to USA

Maybe some of these hospital CEOs or insurance companies would see fit to spare some cash to purchase the PPE which is currently being bid for by various states and the federal government?? The bean counters always rely on our altruism to turn up, ...

Time off of work if high risk-FMLA, PTO, etc.?

How does APLS increase your risk with coronavirus?
  16. ghillbert

Why hasn’t pay increased? Hazard pay, etc.?

Because nurses are "helpers". We put other people before ourselves. This is why HCW are now dying of COVID-19. Our local garbage collectors went on strike until they were provided more PPE and hazard pay. Garbage collectors. I will quit before I ris...

    What happens if you quit?

Are you allowed to quit during a pandemic/state of emergency? Are there licensure ramifications? If my employer is not able to supply appropriate PPE does that change anything?

    What happens if you quit?

"If you are a nurse with health insurance" was what that poster stated, to me.

    What happens if you quit?

I am not quitting to "avoid possible patients with COVID" - I look after patients currently with all kinds of pathologies. However, that is with appropriate PPE. I am someone who performs emergent intubations and airway management, and I am concerned...

    Coronavirus and Intubation Question

Check ELSO> recommend to use VL for intubation instead of DL, avoid bipap, minimize aerosol procedures.

    Nurse to Physician

If you want to be a "physicist", go do a science degree. If you want to be a physician, go to medical school. If you are incompatible with the nursing model, change careers.

Australian nurse wanting to work in America

I know this is not a new post, but for those reading now, I believe for several years now Vermont has required a SSN for initial and renewal RN licensure. What does Texas BON say? I would ask them for approved courses.

    On line DNP

There was a Canadian in my Chatham University DNP program. She now works in the US, although she lived and worked in Canada during the program.

Bad CPR techniques- do you say something?

Absolutely - hard and fast enough compressions are the key to meaningful survival after cardiac arrest. I couldn't count the number of times I told people to switch out because their compressions were ineffective.

Why The Future of NP Practice Maybe A Two Edged Sword

Eh, depends - if I arrested, I'd rather be taken care of by a critical care/ER NP than a dermatology or GI MD.
