    Schools That Provide Preceptors

U Pitt provided clinical rotations, or you can choose your own if you have contacts.

    Spring Arbor vs Walden

Both terrible. I do not precept nor hire Walden U students because I found them lacking in preparation and knowledge. I personally know one who was instructed to watch a Youtube video as their lecture for one topic, in an acute care NP Program. There...

Australian nurse wanting to work in America

This is not a problem if you present it properly to the HR departments. First get your license in the state that you want to work, then contact HR at hospitals - all are short staffed and desperate for RNs. If you explain you are eligible for indefin...

Australian nurse wanting to work in America

E3 visas do not require sponsorship. You apply for it yourself. You need an employer to offer you a position but there is no "sponsorship" such as there is with an immigrant visa.

    Are you ACTUALLY supervised???

I am an ACNP (in PA, not CA). I work in critical care. I have collaborating docs in my practice and we work hand in hand daily. It’s a different world in ICU but in my case, we split the 24 bed unit in half and they round one half, I round one half, ...

Phd in Nursing and considering DNP, is it worth it?

I know this is old but - absolutely NOT! There is no advantage to a DNP that you don't already have from your PhD.

    Critical Care Procedures

Any critical care NPs perform perc trachs? Any reason why we couldn't? Thoughts, input etc?
  8. Why is your range current salary plus $10k? What are your relative billing/reimbursements? Will you be making them money? They may have sticker shock if this is the first NP they have hired, but your salary requirements are not depen...

    Credentialing Reference Requirements

I think most new grads would not have that available - sounds silly.
  10. You usually apply for tuition assistance through HR or another separate department, not via your manager. I don't see it as a jealousy issue, but there's not much more irritating to a hiring manager and preceptors than people who flat out tell ...

    NP Salary/Pay Let's Be Transparent

I didn't suggest otherwise, as my quote that you included says clearly.
  12. I think you're taking this a little too personally, or imbuing things into my post that I did not say or think. I just asked for more information.
  13. Perhaps irrelevant to YOU, but that's your opinion. It's very relevant to me. It's a separate issue than the quality or lack thereof of the orientation process. It will most certainly be relevant to the OP when he or she tries to get another job, and...

Do pH nurses change their title to doctors?

Absolutely not true. I work with MDs, DOs, DPT, PharmDs, scientists, engineers... if they have a doctorate and we are not on first name basis, I call them "Dr xxxxx".

    NP Salary/Pay Let's Be Transparent

I'm not suggesting you are not competent for your role. I am saying that the FNP is not educationally or clinically prepared to work in an operative environment.

    NP Salary/Pay Let's Be Transparent

I am shocked that an FNP is employed in surgery.

    Pulmonary NP

You should want to do acute care if you want to take care of acutely ill adults, pulm or otherwise. Don't you want to learn about arterial blood gases, and invasive hemodynamics, and mechanical ventilation? You would be much more valuable to a PACCM ...
  18. What were the "few mistakes" that you don't see as a big deal since the discussion? What types of errors? I do not agree that it's "not a big deal" to be making repeated errors while orienting - is your preceptor working with you? Supervising? Availa...

    Suspended imprisonment order

What are your chances? Slim to none if you are honest. Contact the registration authority.
  20. Depends where you plan to work. If you will ever want to work in the US in the future, do your study in the US.

    Australian Nurse to USA

As a previous E3 holder, DEFINITELY do that. You do not want to do a green card process at this time. E3 costs the employer nothing, you pay the minimal fees and can get one anytime. Find an employer, all you need is an offer letter and no financial ...

Australian Nurse Looking to work and live in PA

It would be much easier to find an employer and get an E3 visa than to commit to an agency. Do you have a visa or a SSN? This affects licensure.

    ICU NPs in Canada?

Does Canada utilize critical care NPs? Does anyone know what their scope of practice is, if so?

Australian Nurse Looking to work and live in PA

Hi I am an Aussie who lives in PA. Check out the International forum for better info. It's many years since I did the PA licensure, but I ended up getting a Vermont license first and then endorsing to PA so I didn't have to take the CGFNS exam (but j...
