I finally commissioned today as an Ensign in the Navy Nurse Corps! :anpom: It's official now after signing my name about fifty times on fifty different forms. So I'm headed to ODS in January. Class starts January 4th. Anyone else going?

For those who have gone to ODS....I hope you read this!!! My flight arrives late saturday. Check in isn't until sunday. Will I have a place to sleep?! Or do I need to make my own arrangements?

You have a good chance of getting a waiver since you are on the healthcare side of things. I got a waiver for depression and vision, both of which were waiverable because I was applying for a healthcare position. Otherwise, it'd be a no go.

If the doc wrote for meds for depression, there could be a diagnosis in your medical records. I suggest checking with the doctor to see what is in your records. I agree, as long as the records don't contain anything with depression. If depression...

I really like the new khaki uniforms - they look very sharp. And the Blue camo looks good. Would the blue camo be a nurse's equivalent of scrubs??? I've seen some navy nurses working the floor in the current khaki uniform, but these new uniforms look...

I'm active duty, 4yrs. I believe that Navy reserves go to a different school that is even shorter than ODS, but I could be wrong. There are a couple of threads in this forum from the past month or two about people's experiences at ODS. They all prov...

Great questions! I'm especially curious about body sprays/lotions/body wash. I'm addicted to Bath and Body Works. Although I haven't been to ODS yet, I can answer that you will need to bring a one piece conservative swimsuit, according to ODS' websit...

Sooo.....The holdup on my application hasn't been cleared up yet, and I pretty much missed the boat for the Nov. ODS class. Hope to comission soon, and then attend in January. I'll start a thread for January ODS soon. Anyone else going then?

So, the next ODS class starts this coming week. Time is running out and I may not be able to commission in time!!!! So think positive thoughts, say a prayer, do a dance, whatever....I really really want to stay positive and commission on Friday! Did ...

I received my orders yesterday! It seems they are written in Navalese . I will swear in early next week, leave for ODS shortly afterwards, and then report to Portsmouth.

Oh my goodness! Thank you SOOOO much for your post! I will be going to ODS in November (if they hurry up with the paperwork!!!!) and will be stationed at Portsmouth. I can not thank you enough for the info. :bowingpur Congrats on making it through an...

I agree with the previous post. The IV is most likely good if there is no swelling, redness, and there's blood return. Lots of kids freak out with IVs, whether they hurt or not. One way to tell if it's pain or fear is to distract the kiddo- use paren...

Right after I submitted my packet, I was told I needed a couple of waivers but that my application would still move on to the nursing board. So when I was told I was selected it was more like "you're selected, pending medical clearance". Needing waiv...
I'm commissioning in the next couple of weeks! hooray! I will likely be going to ODS in November. Anyone else going? Also, if anyone has gone to ODS recently, can you post about your experience? Any helpful hints would be great!

November's class starts on the 16th. I don't know any other dates. I assume after the first of the year. As for my application, I went through MEPS at the end of May, and had my packet submitted late June. Found out in August that I was selected. Had...

I don't know how competitive it is to get in, but I just found out my application was approved for the Navy Nurse Corps (pending a couple of medical items). :) I have two years of nursing experience. Many applicants are fresh out of school, so just a...

LOL!!! Anyways, so bowel management is a HUGE priority on the unit I work on (peds unit with surgical and rehab patients). It's almost scary how much we talk about bowels. Here's the basics of what we do... If the patient is tolerating a liquid diet,...

I don't have any specific resources to provide, but I can give insight to what my facility does. We clean with betadine prior to placing foleys. Irrigation is only done if there is reason to believe the catheter is clogged, usually by mucousy urine. ...

Sounds a bit fishy to me... My recruiter (Navy) said I'd be moving around at least every three years. The whole stateside thing may be possible, but there are plenty of military hospitals around the world. There are families that live overseas, and t...

My application is in and my recruiter said the slots for nurses are full for this year, which ends September 30. The new fiscal year starts October 1. But people drop out of the application process, so new slots should open up.

Only the CN can give meds? That sounds very odd.... As for meds in the tube feeds, that's pretty much a no-no. Some meds can be mixed with feeds, and is usually ordered by the MDs to be given that way (i.e. lactobacillus). Some meds don't get absorbe...
