  1. LPN being forced to introduce self to pt's as a CNA

Your state likely will hold you to your highest level of certification, whatever title you use. If you are an LPN and fail to notice a declining patient, you maye be at risk even working as a CNA, as you are trained to assess patients. You are takin...
  2. Anxiety during clinical - could use some advice

Anxiety is very normal. Develop healthy mechanisms for it now, as the job itself may be stressful depending on your field. Some fields of nursing are much less stressful than others, for me. Breath :)
  3. Do you ever regret becoming a nurse?

No. If I did it would be a work culture issue and I would find a better fit. Love my job(s). Some days are harder than others, but that's with anything really.
  4. Did I harm the patient??

Yup. When it was said "It's what RNs do..." nursing is a huge field and just because one lacks experience with a role does not mean others do as well. IM medication certainly has a role in patient care at times. Its easy to get tunnel vision in this ...
  5. How not to get ****** at clinical?

Going through any trash is a bad idea. The MRSA part is not important in this case, as a skin infection is very different from a blood borne pathogen. If your patient is in isolation it is unlikely that regular trash bags are in the room anyways. Th...
  6. I got the JOB!

    Awesome!
  7. which would you choose?

Whatever one hires :) No seriously, Which one is closer to your family?
  8. Advice needed new job jitters and its on the night shift

Focus more on improving and learning from mistakes. Everyone does something wrong at some point. Mistakes should avoided whenever possible, but not obsessed over. Your ready for this, go own it.
  9. Since we cant get nursing jobs...

One interviewer asked me if I had any ambulance experience, as she considers that health care experience. Some labs may hire an RN. I went months without a phone call and this sept I received 5 calls of interest, and a few emails. I decided on a week...
  10. do male new grads get hiring preference?

The best we can do as new grads is to remember to view male and female nurses in an equal light. Someday we will be the ones doing interviews for our units, so the glass elevator can stop with us.
  11. Took NCLEX Friday... still nothing??!!

Try the Pearson Vue trick to find out. Nothing is final until results are in, but I haven't heard of the trick failing.
  12. Took NCLEX yesterday...GOD help me I am about to pull my hair out!

Lots of difficult questions is a good sign. Number of questions means little. Do the PVT to find out if you passed so you can relax.
  13. Once again...New Grad Jobs and venting

Those students must have meet the criteria for being RN's, which makes them qualified to seek employment as such. Keep trying, wish you luck :)
  14. Pearson Vue Trick - Poll once you receive your results

Worked for me and 3 others I know.
  15. Daytonite has passed away...

As I graduate from my ADN program I give thanks to Daytonite and all her great postings on nursing theory. She has given the nursing community so much. Her posts made me think critically about the situation as a whole for patients.
  16. I know your trying to help but I don't know what you mean by "do the guy thing". It's kinda like telling a girl to just be cute and write down what I'm saying. I've experienced sexual discrimination in my program. OB clinical was just awful. Just doc...
  17. My multiple answer question rant.

The recent trend in nursing education is the use of multiple answer questions on standard test formats. These are often used in an effort to prepare students for the questions when they appear on boards. This in itself is not bad, but the logic behin...
  18. 700 pages of reading, per week, for one class

Hehe. 700 pages/week = teaching fail. One of my big irks is when questions come out of sections that are clearly intended by the author as reference material, not memorization. I don't mean labs or meds either.
  19. Please help me...what is an ADN

RN-BSN does not require experience. CRNA schools require 1-2 years critical care. If your local school has an ADN program, then the LPN portion may be a requirement for 1st year. If it is, don't bypass the LPN boards, even if optional. It's best to g...
  20. OP: I don't think subtle means what you think it does. I think you mean well, though.
  21. what can i expect on nursing school?

Long hours of studying Loss of social life Unfair instructors with questionable sanity Team and leadership skill development Satisfaction of completing something difficult and important Great instructors (often the same mentioned above) who teach far...
  22. Lot of concern over others grades and skills. Time will tell if the schools standards are prepping students with the ability to pass the NLCEX.
  23. Today is the Day!

Good luck, I just finished boards and received my state license in the mail myself! Advice: start strong, its a lot easier to coast then to climb back up. Go ahead and "overstudy" the first exams in each class...many instructors make those difficult ...
  24. Took Nclex Test 8/31/2009

Can't you get your unofficial results by paying money at the web site now? Only took 2 days for me... PS GOOD LUCK!
  25. Finishing LPN school then going directly for RN

If you want to be an RN, just do it. 4 year school BSN students don't work as an LPN...
