  1. I absolutely agree with you. Remove the audience before you confront.
  2. It will become harassment if the abused doesn't make it known their behavior is NOT WELCOME.
  3. Behavior that creates an environment not conducive to work falls into the harassment category. It should immediately be made clear to the person demonstrating the behavior that it is unwelcome.
  4. I totally disagree. Speaking up for yourself immediately shows strength. Ignoring it shows passivity and tolerance of bad behavior.
  5. The problem with not saying anything at the start is that you train the abuser to continue. It's why "nurses eat their young" is passed on generation after generation. It's wrong. In this case the abused could have said, "your remark about the way I ...
  6. It falls under intimidation which is part of your definition.
  7. Eastern Kentucky University PMHNP program

Can anyone on this thread update me? How has your experience been with Eastern Kentucky University and this PMHNP program?
  8. Family Mental Health NP MSN

I have the exact same question. There are so many online programs, it is difficult to narrow it down. I wonder if this thread should be under the mental health specialty rather than online learning.
  9. I would strongly recommend taking the NCLEX AS SOON AS YOU CAN, wherever you are. The sooner you take it, the more likely you'll pass. If you don't pass, you won't be going anywhere to be a nurse. Plus, if you are applying to more than one state, ...
  10. new grad rn- can't find a job

Same here! I graduated from my ADN program at 49, I am finishing up my BSN program next month at age 50, and still explaining to people, on a daily basis, why I can't find a job during this "nursing shortage." It's very depressing. That said, this...
  11. Psychiatric nursing... do you really lose all your nursing skills?

Just to play devil's advocate... you might just fall in love with psych nursing and lose your interest in emergency care. Regardless, go for it, and as others have said, you can always look for a per diem med/surg job. Also, there is an emergency ...
  12. Vanderbilt Nurse Residency 2014

I'm applying, also. It looks like a great program... as in opportunity of a lifetime. I have a 3.7 and have been volunteering at a clinic all year. I worked as a CNA for about 3 years. Does all that help? Oh, and I'm interested in the mental he...
  13. New Grad RN California: Where should I relocate for work?

I did get a job back in February for a SNF with a rehab wing. I split after two weeks, with sparks on my heels. I refuse to work in another SNF or "rehab hospital." A 30:1 ratio of patients is unsafe; I don't care what anyone says. I am not going...
  14. Looking broadly while only licensed in one state

There are whole threads about this, but the bottom line is the obvious answer. Already holding the license for the state in which you are applying is best. It shows them that you are serious about relocating there and it expedites your ability to s...
  15. Looking broadly while only licensed in one state

I just love hearing about new grads getting jobs because they know the right person.
  16. New Grad RN California: Where should I relocate for work?

You and are in a very similar position, although I graduated with my ADN in May 2012 and only have one class remaining to complete my BSN. I have applied from coast to coast, in small towns and big cities. No luck. However, I did recently start the ...
  17. New Grad RN California: Where should I relocate for work?

You need at LEAST a year of acute care experience before you can become a traveler! Have you started your job search???
  18. You can work in a nursing home if you are not interested in being a nurse and willing to risk your license. Tried it for two weeks. No training (as it was promised) and thirty patients who need to be given meds in two hours. Do the math. That's 4...
  19. I made the following video for the cohort coming in behind us. I though it would help them... and it did. Maybe it will help some people here, too. Secrets - YouTube
  20. Love the chest hair and testosterone comment. Maybe I haven't gotten a job because I don't have a hairy chest! Now on to the serious part of my response... Getting a psych patient in an acute care med/surg unit is far worse than having one in a loc...
  21. Get ready. Psych is an even tougher job to get now than a "regular" acute care job. Keep your options open. It's been 18 months since I got licensed and still looking. One class left to finish my RN-BSN program. Maybe if you are coming directly ...
  22. Stuck Pre-Nursing Student; Feeling Frustrated

I am in Southern California, but I have applied from coast to coast. I am in the process of getting a TX license, but I don't think that will help, either. Additionally, I was a hospital CNA, took on an externship during school, and was even class ...
  23. new grad rn- can't find a job

Ditto. I worked my butt off as a CNA in a hospital, thinking that was my foot in the door. Well the door was slammed shut on me. It's been 18 months since I passed the NCLEX. I have one more class to take to finish my RN-BSN program. I've been a...
  24. Stuck Pre-Nursing Student; Feeling Frustrated

It's been 18 months since I became an RN and I'm still looking for work (almost finished with an RN-BSN program, too). Think about other options.
  25. the other day, i received some new scrubs in the mail, made by various companies. i read the labels (and the labels on my old scrubs) and they were all made in vietnam, korea, and china. if every nurse and scrub-wearing health care worker wrote to t...
