  1. How do I transfer non ambulatory pt from WC?

My suggestion is that if your supervisor has told you not to transfer this patient on your own and you try to do so anyway, your employer is going to offer not one iota of sympathy or support if you injure yourself or the patient.
  2. What is the "tension to ET tube" in NICU setting

Agree with Emm_RN, tension/traction means pulling the ETT away from the baby just a bit. Be careful especially if you use tape to secure, as this can accelerate the loosening process and cause you to have to retape sooner. Also, I can't emphasize s...
  3. What's your favorite nursing task?

Oh man I love when you can hear something rattling around in the chest and finally pull a suction catheter out of the ETT/trach with a big old glob hanging off the end of it. That resistance you feel when the catheter grabs it always makes me think ...
  4. 12 hr night nurses-how many recovery days?

It's different for everyone, as you can see from this thread. I'm always fine on the second day after a night or string of them.
  5. 12 hr night nurses-how many recovery days?

Just one. I basically do whatever my body says on the day I get off work -- sometimes that's napping in the morning or afternoon, or sometimes I'm able to power through to the evening. After a good 10-12 hour overnight sleep, I'm back on a real-wor...
  6. Latest on RaDonda Vaught case

Anyone else getting shades of this? It's a good thing, isn't it, that nurses aren't kindergarteners who don't know any more than "red means stop."
  7. Latest on RaDonda Vaught case

So you encounter something you're unfamiliar with, and rather than doing even a bit of superficial research (seriously, a five-second Google search told me what "ignoratio elenchi" means), you proceed full-steam ahead on the strength of your own assu...
  8. I did this so in trouble

Nope, still confused. Were you meant to be the shift coordinator or a floater? I don't know the exact setup of your hospital but I would imagine those are very different roles. In any case, if you are a nurse and there are patients who do not have...
  9. Per diem rejections

So, so frustrated. Just got a rejection email from a per diem position I applied to four months ago, without so much as an interview. Same thing happened at a different facility maybe eight months ago. I have literally ten years' experience in my ...
  10. Per diem rejections

O.o So I just looked at my phone, turns out I got a voicemail at literally the same time from the nurse manager asking if I want to come in and see the unit. You know, I try not to rag on HR in general but man... Still -- yay?
  11. 1 year experience, feel like i'm getting worse

This was my thought as well. OP, do you have a former preceptor or a nurse that you trust and work with frequently whom you could ask for feedback on your current practice?
  12. Snowflakes

Agreed wholeheartedly with this. Same goes for mocking people who need "safe spaces." Just because someone is not personally dealing with an issue, doesn't mean it's necessarily not a real problem for someone else.
  13. Resetting IV pump volumes: Dangerous or common safety practice?

I was taught to set a 4-hour VTBI and I still do this. That said, everywhere I've worked has always had hourly documentation of the total volume infused, which should be another catch of a pump set incorrectly. Is this not widespread practice? My c...
  14. Do you know of any nurses that changed careers?

I worked with a nurse who left to go into furniture reupholstering.
  15. How are you getting this? This isn't at all what the article suggests.
  16. Blazer to a nurse extern interview?

When in doubt, especially in something like an interview, always err on the side of more rather than less formal. Better to look overdressed than sloppy or disrespectful.
  17. So over it!!

  18. Charge Nurse Questions

Honestly, I do wonder how people who think this forum is "toxic" manage to survive in the actual world on a day-to-day basis.
  19. Charge Nurse Questions

I'm sorry I and the other posters wasted our time trying to help you improve a survey that will net you exactly zero useful responses for a project that I assume is rather important to you.
  20. Junior Sister

Will you share your pay rise with us if we help you get a promotion?
  21. Charge Nurse Questions

Curious as to what sort of insights you think you'll get from these questions? They're too broad and vague, and asking only for yes/no or 1-5 responses, so all you'll glean is the awareness that some charge nurses are good and some not so much. Wou...
  22. New Grad RN: Struggling With Finding a Job

Found your problem. NYC -- in fact, most large metro areas -- are saturated with new grads, as they're desirable places to live and tend to pay better. You need to either apply to pretty much everything in NYC, or cast your net wider geographically.
  23. Nursing student in need of advice

Are you taking steps to address your anxiety? Your first year or so out of school is going to be stressful in many ways whether you're in ICU or LTC, so it almost doesn't matter where you go.
  24. Homework

We aren't here to do your homework for you. Why don't you try it and bring your work here for discussion.
  25. Neonatologist

Huh. That's an interesting structure. But if they're going to be so outside-of-the-box in their offerings, they seriously need better advisors on campus.
