  1. Morning- It's been a bit since I posted. Work has been all consuming with our staff shortages. I'm a provider, an allergy shot giver, a prior authorization person, my own medical assistant all rolled up in one. We have hired a few people and I hope they work out. Could be worse. Covid numbers are dropping quickly here. I feel OK about going to a restaurant as long as it's not jammed packed. I went to pick up take out last night, and the lobby of the place was wall to wall people, most not wearing masks. I did not feel good about that. I still wear my mask indoors in public places. I made it this far without Covid and I don't want it now. Not much else going on. I'm working this AM, and then we're going to take Remy to the beach for a walk. He's getting big and loves to be outdoors. It's warm today (60!) so a beach walk should be comfortable. Then it's back to 20s and snow tomorrow. Yay, New England! Joe-I'm glad J's toe is healing. I hope he gets the antibiotics soon. Tweety-Have fun with the bonus dog. J22-I hope the acupuncture is helpful. Dianah-I love crack slaw! It's a staple in my house, made with ground turkey. NSIME-Car repairs are so expensive! Glad you were able to get out and get a haircut. Hi Amo-Hope all is well with you! Nice to "see" everyone. Have a good day!
  2. Good morning- Cold and icy here. We had freezing rain for most of the day yesterday. Ugh-I'll take snow any day over this mess. I might just stay in the house all day and do laundry and read. Tweety-It does suck being so short staffed. I hope it's not too bad. Hope all are well. Have a good day.
  3. I am an NP working at a single physician owned private practice. I have always been paid a straight salary, but I would also like to ask for a percent of what I bill. I bill more than any other provider in the practice, including the owner. I don't even know where to begin to determine a reasonable percent I should ask for. I'd appreciate any insight or advice the members here can give me. TIA
  4. You could look for a position in a Functional Medicine practice, which focuses on wellness but still incorporates allopathic medicine.
  5. I work in an outpatient specialty and am on-call 1 week a month. It's by phone only; I never have to go in. Most weeks I don't get called at all. It really doesn't impact my life at all.
  6. I thought it was a decent speech. Not historic or absolutely memorable, but it was solid. It was nice not to hear crazy diatribes or self aggrandizing rants. I also loved seeing 2 women on the podium behind him. I'd give him a solid B.
  7. No, Trump was always, and will continue to be "Trump First".
  8. I'm an NP working in outpatient Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology and I certainly do notate any abnormalities "outside my lane" and refer back to PCP, or ER if appropriate. A lot of what I see crosses over into Derm, Rheumatology, ENT, etc, and I will collaborate with these other specialties as needed. I think it's negligent to ignore significant abnormalities. All the providers in my practice do the same.
  9. I still can't get my head around those who think Trump is the victim here, and he has done nothing wrong. I really think Trump supporters have been in some kind of moral or ethical coma for the last 4 years.
  10. What I really love is how those who think the election was "stolen" in certain states are only complaining about the presidential election. If there are ballots missing, shouldn't the other races on said ballots be questioned also? I haven't seen that happening. The what about-isms are weak, at best. To quote what was often said in 2016, "you lost-get over it."
  11. Masks and lockdowns are only effective if people are compliant. I still see and hear of people having large family gatherings, parties, etc. People are also not wearing masks in public 100% of the time. So, there is still going to be spread as long people are indulging in risky behavior.
  12. It's hard to not say "I told you so". I certainly don't wish death or anything horrible on ANYONE who gets this virus. My hope is that people will stop with the whole "Covid is a hoax" nonsense and now the country will take this virus seriously. That being said, my expectations are low.
  13. I just got the same response from a Boston hospital, despite having 8 years experience in the particular specialty I was applying for. They only cared about my total years of practice. I would think the ability to pretty much hit the ground running would count for something. There was no flexibility whatsoever. Anyway, I digress... 103K is low for Boston. You may do better in the suburbs, or in adjoining states. I make a lot more in RI than I did in MA. Best of luck to you.
  14. I'm so sad to hear of Esme's death. May her memory be a blessing to all who love her.
  15. Hi, FNP here. I work in a private specialty outpatient practice-Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. We are physician owned and are not affiliated with a health care system. My practice is split pretty evenly between adults and peds, so having the FNP certification is a necessity. My previous experience is in adult internal med and Urgent Care. I work 5 8 hour days in the office. I have no hospital responsibilities. My job can be stressful, but I like the predictable schedule and not working nights, weekends, and holidays. I rarely stay late, but I do take home at least a little work most nights. I hope this is helpful. Best of luck to you.
  16. I am fortunate to be able to work from home doing telemedicine, but I feel a little guilty for not being on the front lines. 4 of my friends have lost an elderly parent due to Covid. None were able to say goodbye. I am isolating, and have become slightly agoraphobic. I won't go to a grocery store, won't order takeout. I get groceries delivered. I feel safe in my home. I haven't seen my kids or my mother in 5 weeks. My fiance lost his job and we are most likely going to cancel our wedding in Sept. That being said, I am so lucky. My family and I are healthy. I know I am privileged to afford grocery delivery and to still have a job. I feel like I'm living in a bad science fiction novel. My heart breaks for those who have lost so much, and for those who put themselves at risk every day caring for Covid patients.
  17. Allergy and Asthma NP- We have been doing 100% telemedicine for the last week and will do so again for the upcoming week. Tomorrow providers and admin will video conference to come up with a plan going forward. Allergies are acting up in my area (New England), and we're getting a lot of calls from the worried well. Our asthma and COPD patients have been well stocked with their meds. I have referred 2 patients for testing as they met the criteria, but Dept of Heath told them to monitor at home and isolate, as testing is not readily available. We have very little in the way of PPE at our offices-surgical masks, gloves, maybe a few gowns. No N95 masks or face shields. We will not be able to do spirometry due to risk. I have also been precepting a FNP student, and have to tell her she cannot come back until things calm down.
  18. Fingers crossed you get this position. I don't know what your employer was thinking placing you in the Cardiac role. Best of luck to you.
  19. I've been working in Asthma and Allergy for most of my NP career, and really enjoy it. I like having the depth of knowledge in a few select areas. I have my own panel of patients, and work independently. It's a relatively low stress environment. I personally would not work in pain management. It's not my thing. Please PM me if you have any questions about working in Allergy.
  20. Rhode Island is a good state to practice in as a NP. It's an independent practice state, and salaries are just about on par with MA., but housing costs are lower. Licenses are processed fairly quickly.
  21. Same here. Getting tired of office politics...
  22. I live in the metropolitan Boston/Providence area, and there are a lot of jobs for NPs with experience. New grads are having challenges finding a job.
  23. I might. All depends on the job. I like what I do, but I'm all about quality of life at this point.
  24. You could check out the Institute of Functional Medicine website, or try to talk to someone who works in a Functional Medicine practice.
