Well...hand holding was not an issue.....just a lot of "alpha type" personalities. I think the final straw for me was after a 2.5 months there I was given my orientation book.....after 2.5 months I thought...my God....maybe they should have given me this on my first day.....hospice has given me the chance to be more independent and I have found I am using a lot more critical thinking.

Thank you all.....but I decided to go ahead and save myself and I resigned my position. Kind of a shame because I really enjoyed the work. However it felt kind of exhilarating to tell them I was not going to be back. I am headed into hospice care....where I think my quiet demeanor will be appreciated, not only by the patients, but to the staff as well.:)

Saturdays always are the end of the week, I believe, no matter where you work. I always did weekend option and had Mon-Thurs off as I requested to do three and done

I started back at 38 and graduated with my BSN at 42.....the same year my youngest son graduated from high school. And for a humorous note...my oldest son and I took chemistry together.

I have just started a new job in a PACU. I am in my 5th week of training. I have been a nurse for 2 years and worked in a step down unit prior to this job. The other day my manager called me in to inform me they were going to keep me on orientation for another 2 weeks, which is fine with me because considering I have had 8 different preceptors in this time I am not feeling very well oriented at this point and was going to request some more time anyway. However, when she told me this she also stated that I seem "too quiet" to be a PACU nurse and these nurses are usually loud and in your face. She told me she wants me to feel frustrated and to lose control. I am sorry....I really do not want to lose control because it is not my desire to harm a patient which is very well what could happen if I lose focus. She also said I do not "jump in there" when a patient comes in. That part threw me because I do jump in and help get the patient situated except when there are 4 other PACU nurses around the patient along with the people that have come from the OR. I do not see the need for me to get in there when there are 6-8 people already around the patient. Anyway....any suggestions would be appreciated. I have already reached out to some friends to look for another job because I honestly am thinking maybe my personality does not fit.

One thing I would add.....there is only one hospital in my area that still hires LPN's and AN's. The rest of the hospitals require at least a BSN. Watching some of the people I know going back to school because they are stuck where they are is another reason I am glad I chose the BSN. I got into nursing to be a nurse.....not for the income, however if you want to talk income I know LPN's are only making a little over what a tech makes and a lot less than what I make. In order to bring home a good salary a LPN would have to work some hellacious over time....which is something I really do not want to do....it would make me miserable and not a very good nurse.

I graduated in 2010 with my BSN. I do not regret it because I did some serious thinking about it ahead of time when deciding to do an LPN, AN or BSN. The reason I chose BSN was because I knew I would never return to school again (I was 38 when I started back) and if I did not do it then, I never would. I have watched and heard through the grapevine that some of my fellow students who graduated with me....some with straight A's throughout the 4 years had already quit nursing because 1. they thought they would make more money than they actual were or 2. it was a lot more work than they thought. Luckily, for me, both my Mom and Dad were LPN's and I already knew what I was in for. So.....being an LPN may be the way to go at least until you get your feet wet and know what you are in for.....you don't waste years or money that way.

As a nurse, who previously worked as a pharmacy tech, I would also like to add....check the medication after you pull it. Sometimes wrong meds can be put in a drawer (extended release tablets placed in immediate release drawers etc). Nobody is beyond making errors. Always always double check your meds.

I agree that it depends on the state you are in. I graduated 2 years ago, as well, and all the grads were able to find employment upon graduation. Good luck to you.

Looking at them as innocent angels when they are cuffed at the ankle and wrist to the bed and there is a officer with a gun in the room with them 24/7 isn't always easy. Personally, I don't let it bother me cause I realize people make bad decisions...doesn't always mean they are a bad person.

Took the NCLEX-RN this morning....just about wanted to walk out into traffic after it was finished. Answered ALL 265 he**ish questions...went to Pearson Vue...said my test was submitted successfully and I got the good pop up.....still not going to count my chicken before they are hatched :anpom:

I am not trying to get your hopes up, but after reading your posts about the payroll system being down I grew concerned because when I logged on to the payroll it did not show a posting yet for October (it usually shows by now). Anyway, I contacted my analyst (first by email, then by phone and when I did not get a reply to either, I sent another email)....when I logged on again, after my second email, my payment for October was posted in the history....so I am hoping it will be through early next week. Like I said, I cannot say how it will be for you guys cause you are new and it is your first payment....but mine is showing so I hope you get your money soon too. I totally understand about the rent/bill thing because I have things drafted on the 29th for this check....I also made that clear to my analyst.

If I recall correctly....but I cannot predict what they will do this year...I received my first payment at the end of October last year. It has been a year and I have slept a little since then so I cannot give an exact date. FYI...once in the past year they have been late putting my check into my account....but it was still there by the 3rd of the month...I contacted the person in charge of my scholarship and she took care of it....thank God cause my rent is a direct draft and would have bounced...that would be bad

yeah...probably true about the amount, but trust me...you only get it once a year...I know...cause I am still waiting on it so I can pay my friend back for my books this semester

I was just wondering if anyone knew how much we were going to receive for the other reasonable costs (ORC) I can't find it anywhere form anyone in the past who has received. It should be around $1795.....remember though...this is to last the whole year to buy books....and you will have to wait until the end of October next year as well....so if you spend it all before your Spring 09 semester and your Fall 09 semester you will need to come up with those funds yourself....congrats to all

Well...I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but last year we were not notified until the end of September....I received my award letter on Sept. 30 of last year....so you guys have about 2 more months of waiting....Good luck to all

I think you cannot be currently in default on a loan...I believe as long as she has cleared it up it will be ok

I know when I received it last year, I went ahead and took out my subsidized and unsubsidized loans....the school held onto the loan money until I knew anything about my scholarship. When I received the scholarship, the school sent back my loans and had them canceled...and just like Miss Mab stated above..I also did not hear until after September 1...I know it will seem like forever, but it is worth it if you get it....and yes, make other arrangements in case you do not because it is such a small number that do get it. They sent out the rejection letters already? Last year the acceptance letters were out well before the rejection...guess they changed it up a bit.

i received the scholarship last year. keep an eye on your email that you supplied them with. they sent me forms last year that needed to be filled out by your school (for your tuition payment) and by your bank (for direct deposit of the stipend amount). i am the type that checks my email daily so i did not miss it....these forms have to be faxed back to them by the date they give you and i only had 2 days to do it. i think there were some people last year that actually missed the email so they were out of the running...i think if you get that email and you get it in on time your chances are pretty good you will be getting the scholarship. good luck....the scholarship is a god send...it is great not having to worry about where the money is going to come from to pay for school.

i received the scholarship starting last year....there is no rhyme or reason to who they pick after meeting the first preference...i think it is luck of the draw.....only suggestion would be to watch your email that you provided them...i received an email stating i needed to print out forms, get the school business office to fill out their information, get my bank to fill in their information and fax it back into them....i had to have this done within two days...and i did check my email the day it was sent... so if you do not check your email daily you might run the risk of not getting the information back to them....i heard several people say that they found it in their email the day it was due by and therefore were knocked out of the running for the scholarship. this information has to be faxed back to them. also...this is not the supplemental forms that you were asked to fill out if you met first preference...didn't want anyone mixing up the two. the scholarship really has been a god send....well worth the stress :sasq:of getting it, but it is really competitive and good luck to all those that have applied.

OK---maybe I am being too old school, and I am only a nursing student, not a nurse YET. I understand wanting to be financially successful, however, I question if you did not get into nursing solely for the money? Which, if this is the case, I would not want someone like this to be my nurse...I want someone who actually counts the lives he/she touched and helped saved, not the money in his/her bank account....my opinion
