  1. would you be a RN for $11.00/hr?

romansten, I too WAS a paramedic -back in the '90s. A BIG reason why we made such paltry pay was "supply vs demand" -a SINGLE opening in Tampa, FL (for instance) would command more than 300...
  2. Is anyone else uncomfortable with this?

Still don't know what a CMT is as its referred to here. In MY facility, CMT means Cardiac Monitor Tech -and that should go without saying -they don't pass meds or even have patient contact. That...
  3. unsure what to think

Not only is it too personal, it appears that you really don't have enough information available for anyone to actually answer your question -and evidently you simply don't understand CHF itself. If...
  4. would you be a RN for $11.00/hr?

Its not a hobby, its a job -more specifically, my livelyhood. I don't work for free. And certainly wouldn't bother looking at an $11/hr
  5. VIP Triage

well, I had to go into my facility for heart-related problems. And had to go back yesterday to get a defibrillator. When I was moved to the cardiac floor, I was given a private room -vip treatment....
  6. There can be NO peace while Kirk LIVES!. oops, wrong movie! Peace through superior firepower! oops, wrong slogan. It IS curious that the one who is whining about unity is also the one who is blaming...
  7. Jami_Jared -I find it a bit insulting that you keep expressing the belief that we must attain BSN before we can be viewed as 'professionals'. Hate to break your egg shells, but I AM a professional....
  8. Agency Nurse doesn't know how to start IVs?

ok, now that is scary. if a nurse is unsure or just does not know a skill, i pray they do admit it, and either ask for assistance or seek instruction -not just 'try' and fail, then ask someone else....
  9. Agency Nurse doesn't know how to start IVs?

Thanks Charebec. I have a good cardiology team working with me, and what has to be the absolute best primary care physician as my primary -I've known him for years, and he has literally pulled my can...
  10. Agency Nurse doesn't know how to start IVs?

Not only that, but unlike in the past, (at least in Florida) the schools teach it on a dummy arm with a tube under the "skin" to simulate a vein. Only the theory is learned this way -in no way is it...
  11. Nicole- thats spooky! I've had patients before who just KNEW when they were going to die (and they did) -but I've never had one call their own mortician
  12. Why do so many of you hate working med/surg?

I'm with RNsRWe -no way would I accept 10, or 11 (certainly not 12) patients in the hospital setting -thats just plain nuts! No way can it be considdered 'safe' by ANY streatch of hte imagination!...
  13. Self inflicted

I almost blew my tea all over my computer! THAT is just too
  14. VIP Triage

Hogan has some valid points -things can be worse if the vip DOESN'T get the rush to the front of the line -that would entirely depend on who the VIP was, though. Not all of them are public figures...
  15. Why do so many of you hate working med/surg?

School, go wherever you like :) -if you're interested in it, you will likely do a better job than if youre in some place just biding your time. The answer to your question, however, depends entirely...
  16. Stand up if you're not in it for the money!

It could also be that she didn't realize what the work really entailed. We had a few drop out of our program by the end of the second semester because they didnt really (really) understand what it...
  17. Stand up if you're not in it for the money!

I do (usually) enjoy the work, and like the challenges. I guess when the 'bad' days outnumber the 'good' ones, I'll have to re-assess my place in them :) For now, tho, I like the floor I work on,...
  18. Stand up if you're not in it for the money!

well, if money were no issue, I certainly wouldn't be doing this for a hobby! I can experience 'personal growth' many other ways and would gladly get out of the hospital
  19. As long as you don't go outside of your scope of training, you should always be 'fine'. I've always stopped to help if no ems had yet arrived -cops at best (as a general rule) receive only basic...
  20. Humidify low flow oxygen?

well, its my bread, and I for one was happy to have the bubble humidifier on my cannula -even though it was only at 4 lpm. -AliRae I never knew that about pedis and the half-liter flowrate. Tiny...
  21. Self inflicted

Had a trauma patient once who was a pretty good size man, in his 6foot range, built like a body builder. Stabbed in the upper back -the blade hit his right lung. He had been arguing with his...
  22. Just where do our services end?

Yeah, I've noticed the same. I've even had families admit to me that they purposely complain each time they are moved to a floor, because they believe that it will give them better service -because...
  23. My wife received an email from my aunt today -we haven't spoken in years -family history and all that- anyway, in the email my aunt told my wife that a friend of hers had been a patient of mine, and...
  24. Why do so many of you hate working med/surg?

Delana, your experience reminded me so much of my old facility (private small hospital) -I mean that could have been written by someone who worked there! I had flashbacks! Rarely have I ever left one...
  25. Nurse patient ratio?

Florida doesn't have any law regarding ratio that I'm aware of either. Typical here is max of 6, my floor has fairly acute patients (vented, trached, hardwired telemetry, that sort of thing) and we...
