  1. When I first started nursing over 20 years ago(yikes,I am getting old!) glove were an option and I developed a bad habit of not wearing gloves! Times have changed and now YES I wear gloves! The only time I probably should and don't is starting IVs which I do several times just about daily, I use one glove and feel without a glove, I have to feel the vein and can't with a glove. Thus far, I haven't come in contact with blood. But I wouldn't advocate it to anyone else! Recently several nurses I used to work with have contacted Hep C and the cause is probably patient care related! It's scarey! WEAR GLOVES!!!!!

Only Anesthesia administers Propofol thankfully! I think it would be a huge mistake to allow any RN to PUSH Propofol!!!!! The liabilities would be huge and we certainly do not make enough money to cover the malpractice! Did you ever watch Propofol given and watch how some people completely go out and need constant airway support? A Propofol drip in an ICU is one thing as it is a slow drip and many of the patients are already intubated! The implications are huge! Much more so than involved with Fentanyl, which can be given safely with just a little care! Not all RN's are that careful. I really hope and pray that Propofol will only be given by anesthesia, as their only responsibility in the case is the patient, nothing else. A far cry from what we who administer concious sedation are required in any given case! It's the best drug ever in my opinion but something for Anesthesia, the same as General Anesthesia!

I work in a large teaching hospital in a very busy endo unit. The shifts are "8" hours with various starting times, 7, 7:15, 7:30, 7:45, 8, 8:30, 9, and 9:30. Quite frequently depending on staffing 8 hours does not happen, especially if you are on the later shifts. But we get a schedule for 6 weeks so you know what you will be working and you work your life around it! If you are working the later shifts, have nothing planned to do outside of work, make sure the kids have somebody to watch them as you may not be leaving before 7pm. It works! Oh, and as far as having 2 nurses in every case, dream on! We are blessed if we have a tech(depending on the tech) and we do conscious sedation! And we manage to turn the rooms over very quickly so we can get done maybe in an 8 hour day!
