    motorcycle accidents

I could have written this post myself! My husband and I both ride...my husband is quite fast...too fast for the street really...he usually only rides on the track. Tracks are quite fun...you don't...

Remembering patients who die (how?)Nursing grief issue

I don't work in peds, but I like the idea of a handprint on the wall and then have the child write their name inside their handprint. This of course would decorate the wall in various colors (and you...

    Cordis cath ???

It is just a really big central line, usually placed in the IJ. Our patients do not go to the floors with these in place and we are not allowed to do blood draws out of our cordis' per our hospital...

I'm Tired Of Being Cursed Out

I really dislike working with people like this. When it feels that all of what you do is for nothing (especially since many of these people are just going to go back out and do the same thing). I...

    A new poll re. uniforms

PROS: Easy recognition of various staff. Don't have to worry about what to wear to work. CONS: Limited individual expression. Possibly having to wear the "cheaper" scrubs or scrubs I don't think...

    What's you highest...?

I agree with the ativan...haldol is the primary drug for our alcohol withdraw protocol for agitation (also bananna bag/librium q 6 or therebouts/ativan 1-2 mg per hour). The haldol we can give q5...

    Aspirin before 911

I agree with NrsKaren...ASA is recommended by the AHA. Mabye she meant that it won't relieve the chest pain--ASA won't treat the heart attack by itself, further evaluation and intervention is needed....

    Med/surg

I agree with your post...the only reason that I think a tele unit would be beneficial is for familiarity with rhythms and various vasoactive drips (depending on the type of unit that you work...

Chest Tube Care and Pacer Wires

Our CT sites don't come up from the OR with vaseline gauze...when we pull the tubes, we do put vaseline gaue over the insertion site. Our pacer wires come up from the OR in clean/dry (but small) lab...

    Med/surg

I would probably start in a tele unit...I feel that you would gain valuable experience in any area you choose...however if you plan to work two years before CRNA school, learning cardiac...

    Underwear question

I definately agree, these are the most comfortable undies and they stay put no matter
  17. I voted no because that is what I do 97% of the time...however, there is that occassional person that I will use saline with suctioning because of thick, tenuous, chunky secretions that just won't...

    Futile Care. Dead is dead.

I agree with this statement, except that I don't know if I would call it defeat. In defense of the surgeons that I work with, I do feel that they really are caring and want their patient's to do...

A reminder to ALWAYS listen to your patients.

How about when you have a 90 something patient calling for their mother--or any patient calling for someone that you know has passed on. I think most people know--or have a feeling they can't put...

    tube feeding dye?

Dye also went by the wayside about one year ago in my facility. We can use it if we "have" to--pt has a high risk of aspiration, we think they are aspirating, etc...but I haven't seen it used at all...
