  1. Hate my job, want to transfer...

Graduate. Why don't you make an appointment with your nurse recruiter? She might be able to give you good advice, and also listen to you vent. Cherry
  2. Sometimes I just don't give a hoot!!

Yep, I usually run my ass off all day while others talk on the phone or chat all day. How do they do it? I really don't know. They don't care though, and that is obvious. Personally, I do care and could not stand to have people talking about me ...
  3. Travellers treated better? opinions please

I think it truly will blow up in her face. I don't think the two travellers will be renewing their contracts and will be leaving soon. Meanwhile, the staff is falling apart and I think a couple of nurses (perhaps even I) will be leaving withing a fe...
  4. I'm a Staff Nurse. My unit has a few travellers/agency nurses. They are all good nurses and work hard. One is new. She's already *****ing about the hosp., etc. *****es about nursing, wants to be a doctor. Okay whatever. Her friend brought her t...
  5. Per diem questions

I am seriously considering per diem status. Being a full time staff nurse is just awful. Cherry
  6. Travellers treated better? opinions please

Ouch Peeps Sounds like you had a horrible experience. Glad you found prn nursing more to your satisfaction. Cherry
  7. Travellers treated better? opinions please

Renerian: You have some good ideas. Believe me, I am upset enough to say something to my manager. I guess the right time will come up when I can mention it without it sounding like sour grapes/and/or jealousy. Cherry
  8. Travellers treated better? opinions please

MollyMo I don't think it's right to treat travellers/agency as slave labor. That's not fair to them. They do have to make an amazing transition, and quickly. Staff deserves the praise too, and doesn't get it. That's my beef. Cherry
  9. Travellers treated better? opinions please

Agnus: Manipulation! Yes, that's the word. Perfect. That's what I was thinking of. It just left a strange feeling in my stomach. Cherry
  10. Travellers treated better? opinions please

Mattsmom: "This is part of the dysfunction within our hospital systems and is management's way of intimidating us and keeping us down. They promote night shift against day shift, agency against staff, fulltime against prn, etc. " Yes, I think you are...
  11. Travellers treated better? opinions please

3rd shift guy: "Bottom line, there are good travelers and bad travelers. Treat them well, welcome them, don't cop a resentment about the money they make, and they usually work out just fine." Yeah I guess that sums it all up. :) I'm not really rese...
  12. Travellers treated better? opinions please

Cheerfuldoer: "When I did traveling nursing, every assignment but one was nice...treated well by both staff and management. " It seems like you had good experiences travelling. Maybe I should try it. Cherry
  13. Travellers treated better? opinions please

SJoe: "Maybe you should resign, then come back to the same place as a traveling nurse, as others have done. " That sounds like a good idea. The travellers are immune from the politics, the vacation/time off squabbles, they set their own schedule and...
  14. Travellers treated better? opinions please

I really like the travellers/agency on my floor, they are good nurses. Staff takes the harder patients and the travellers/agency are the first to float. These travellers always pitch in and help the staff if they are drowning. I just find the situa...
  15. Travellers treated better? opinions please

Has anyone else had an experience similar to mine? C.S.
  16. Speaking native languages at work...

If I worked in France I would speak French. If I worked with 3 Americans and one French nurse and the French nurse was standing there I would speak FRENCH. I would only speak ENGLISH if I was in the company of my fellow Americans. It is RUDE and CLA...
  17. Speaking native languages at work...

It is just really rude and insensitive Where I work they will go on and on and on in Phillipino or Tagalog or whatever and you KNOW that they are discussing you. They are "cliquey" enough without having to speak a foreign language too. bleh. I'm ...
  18. Liking the night shift

I have been on nights for 6 months. (first time) While I like the pace and the team, I hate my life. I have gained weight and it is very hard to sleep during the day. I am not as sharp on nights and I make mistakes. I start days in about a mont...
  19. When I was in clinicals, most of the nurses didn't pay one bit of attention to us. The ones that did were nasty. I remember only one nurse manager being nice to us. We basically relied on our instructor. I swore to myself that when I became an RN...
  20. Call bells in my sleep

Yah. I dream about work and never feel rested I hear the monitors and IV pumps going off. Vent alarms and BIPAP alarms too. ::sigh:: Cherry
