    Any inactive LPN's?

I was just referred to this site from a nurse on another board I frequent. I only worked 7 months as an LPN in a nursing home. That job got me my job as a Special Populations paraeducator (Special Ed. Aide). I have been out of nursing for 17 years and when I checked about going back in I was told I needed to take a 6 month refresher course. Just wondering if any of you have faced this situation. If I retire in 8 years as I plan I may consider going back to nursing part time. Was just curious if any body else had gone thru a refresher course. God Bless.

    Muscular Dystrophy statistics

Oh we were told that females carried the gene but the males got the disease from the mother. They have one sister but she has never married or had children.

    Muscular Dystrophy statistics

Just saw your private message today and replied thru that. I don't mind letting you know what I remember. The oldest son wasn't officially diagnosed until later in the disease. He walked until he was 8 or 9. Once he broke his leg that was it for the walking. He went into a wheelchair. He went to school every day but once the lower body lost control then the upper body lost control pretty quickly. His chest got barrell shaped with not much fat or cushion. No oxygen, feeding tubes or anything. Mostly skin and bones. He needed to be lifted, changed, fed and helped with everything. He died immediately from heart failure after completing a day at school. He was 13. the second son went a little longer. We saw him walking Ok. Then he'd fall and pick himself up on his own. Then he'd fall and we'd have to pick him up. Then it got to where there was no more walking. His body started to look just like his older brother's had, barrell chested and loss of upper control pretty quickly. He had to have a breathing machine at night just to help him keep his collapsed lung going. No feeding tubes but more liquid nourishmnet required. Couldn't even scratch his nose at the end. Full of pain every where and touching him hurt him a lot. He died pretty much from just his body wearing out. He was 16. Youngest son seems to have gone a little slower. He's in a motorized wheelchair but there are signs of loss of upper body control. He attends school. He is 14 years old. Has to be watched for pneumonia which would dramatically bring his health down quickly. Beginning to look like both older brothers as far as body and muscle control.

    aspartame anyone?

All I know is that when I eat or drink something with Aspartame in it I get a crushing headache with 1-2 minutes right in the middle of my forehead. I read labels very carefully.

    Question about chicken pox

I'm 37 and have never had chicken pox or the vaccine. My 2 sons have both had it and numerous children at the school I work in have had it but I've never gotten it. Had never even had a cold sore until one of my students spit in my face. YUK!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've tended to students with scabies, Indian Fire, pink eye, ringworm, and every other imaginable thing but have never gotten any of it.

Why do physical therapist make more then....

I work in the school system and they hire out for a physical therapists to work with the children who need therapy. Now I'm sure she worked hard for her degree but I also know that she gets paid about $50.00 an hour and most of the time doesn't even touch the kids. A lot of them are on a tracking basis. She has come in and told the APE teacher how, where and when to stretch the child. All I can say is everything goes around. These kids wouldn't be down for physical therapy if they didn't really need it. Most of them only get this service thru the school system because of their limited incomes. I wish I had been better in Math because I would be one now possibly. The other physical therapist is wonderful. She gets down on the floor with them and stretches them out and they all smile when she is working with them. She's so sweet.

    Prayer warriors...I need you!

Heavenly Father please in your wisdom and mercy provide for "Gator", her husband and their family as only you can do. Please show them that when a door closes a window is opened and that your ways are so much better than our ways. Please let her husband find a job and an even better job than before. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God Bless.

Ok, I have been having a problem down under and am a *little* worried

Sounds like me with the spotting. I have a benign fibroid tumor that I'm having a hysterectomy for next summer-my choice. Don't want to wait until I HAVE to have the surgery and be almost gone by then like many of my friends have done. Try your best to get assistance and get seen by a doctor. God Bless and best to you.

    what the.... pt abandonment?

Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. If the facility won't change its procedure then she should be seriously looking for another place to work.

Anyone with experience with body donation?

I keep telling my husband that I want my brain given to the Autism research program (we have a 14 year old son with Autism), my other organs to whoever needs them the most and my body to the LSU Medical school but I seriously doubt that he will do it. He doesn't like to discuss those things. I've written it all out in my Bible and told him that but I guarantee he won't do it because it's a little complicated.

    I'm thinking of dropping out

I wanted to quit every day I went to school. My Mom finally said "FINE, go tomorrow and turn in your books and then go find something else to do with your life. Needless to say I finished school and I'm very glad I did.
