  1. The letters behind ones name mean nothing... I know many LPN's that I would rather have take care of me than a lot of RN's and some MD's for that matter...Isn't it sad that we live in a world of such ignorance
  2. At the Lafayette campus it is usually above an 80% but it is a very compatitive program here so that is why...Have you bought the TEAS book???
  3. This is one of the most frustrating things..This used to happen to me all the time, last year 12 of the 13 shifts i worked i worked as a CNA i ended up finding anouther job; not becasue I have disrespect for a CNA but that i was charge and prn staff and agency was getting better treatment than there own full time staff, i thought that was wrong.
  4. I think care plans are a lot different in ICU and CCU. I am also a cardiac nurse and i think the whole care plan thing is #1 something nursing school does to make writing a paper make sense. #2 A tool facilities CHOOSE to adopt or not to adopt and #3 they are nothing like what school makes them out to be. IN the acute care setting you do it without even thinking...Interventions that is and in some situations it is understood.
  5. Personally i liked 7pm to 7 am you have a nice calming in the middle of your shift, (most of the time). Noc shift in the LTC isn't that bad i did it for a year before i got into the transition program, the biggest problem is that people don't get that when they were sleeping last noc you were working and you need to sleep. THe 12 hour shift help with being away from your family b/c you generally have 4 days off a week, try to get your shifts in a row so your days off can be that way too. OTherwise, it gets hard to sleep with on a day off a day. As far as LTC and 12 hour shifts that depends on the facility and how they prefer to staff. Some say only if you find a partner to cover your other 12 hours some say no and others love 12 hour people so that iwll vary. Good Luck, you will be fine. It will take about two weeks to a month to get yourself adjusted.
  6. Will you be working NOC Shift and taking care of your children during the day?
  7. I am currently enroled in a transition program, as well. As far as the material it is more detailed and th care plans aren't even close to the same! My LPN care plans were about 10 pages on average and the curretn one is already 20 so it is more indepth. My instructor always says you will now be the RN in the situation and therefor you will need to think critically and deeper... I don't mind the material its the load, a lot comes at you very fast; while some is review some is just at a much much deeper level.
  8. Gardendive what kind of facitity do you work in if you mind me asking??? We have a whole care plan team at bothe the facilities i work at that includes nursing...

Usually you submit in person and HR will have you themn formally submit in writing usually you give as much notice as they schedule or your pay for example if you get paid Q 2 weeks then 2 weeks is enough, If your schedule comes out for a month at a time then that is correct also . Generally give 30 day notice that is the polite thing to do and while it is frustrating you don't want to burn any bridges that might come back to haunt you in 10 years.
  10. SOmetimes i feel its just the seat you get! with my LPN exams one of the smatest kids in my class got all 210 questions... I thougt i had only gotten 1 question right they just stink!!! We noth passed! THe amount of questions shouldn't affect you sometimes they give you a different question about the same subject matter and thats why you get more questions! Just relax and try not to dwell on it for the next day or two.
  11. Its funny cuz it all changes every few years in 5 years you might hear seeking LPN's for hospital b/c they are cheaper help than an RN. It all turns and it is so frustrating but they have to have x amout of nurses per QMA and CMA depending onth facility and the states regulation, fortunatly Indians nurse practices act is vague and LPN's can do alot more in our state than others.
  12. can you study independently? if not it will be very very hard!
  13. Pretty sure it means a site accepted by both the college and the state when i looked into it it was hospitals with certain credentials, hope that helps a little
  14. Do you know where you want to work? lik in a nursing home or doctors office? Nursing home jobs pretty easy it can take at lot longer to get hired on by a doctors office or clinic, it really depends on the need which i feel changes al lot
  15. LPN School I went though Ivy Tech LPN school with no prior medical background. The good thing is it is very hands on and you will know early if its not for you. THe program is set up so you WILL pass boards which is great but that makes it kina tough too. cost about 1500 per semester-this could be to high. Once you start the program it is one year. When you are done it is one more year for you RN.
