Can anyone give me more information on rural nursing?
  2. Staffing issues

That is a really tough situation. I've been on a tele floor just like yours with 33 beds, and I also work all the shifts. Nights can be really tough with low staffing, and the majority new grads. I myself have been a nurse for only 4 yrs. Sometimes I...
  3. Nurse to patient ratios

Our unit is similiar, we are a 33 bed unit that is postinterventional. However, we also see MIs, CHF, and tele. We check the ACTs, and pull the sheaths on the floor. We also get post-op day 1 open hearts on occassion. Our policy is to have 7 nurses o...

  5. Working in a small hospital....

I work in a small hosp. in Western NY also, and the key for us is to involve the community. The community knows the hospital is the only one within a 30 or more mile radius, and transport may occur to the larger city hosp.. However, if it was gone se...
  6. Jobs Anywhere?

Sorry but Western New York has way too many nurses, not enough positions, and the pay is ridiculous!!
  7. Assingment under protest

In New York, I've filled them out daily!!! Management does not care for them, because it throws all the responsibility in their lap, if something disasterous happened with a patient. I would have 15 pat. at a time--MRSA, hips/knees, tele, and babies ...

  9. rural nursing

Went to the conference and found that basically if you are practicing rurally you are a rural nurse. There are many specialties in the field.

I like the opsite or the 2x2. our sites are in for 3 days, and ususally have 3-4 drips going through--heparin, tridil, integrilin, etc. .We need them really secure, and a bandaid wouldn't cut it.

I know a nurse, from a European country, that I was at work with one day. Her husband came to have lunch with her in the cafeteria. After they came back we were talking and come to find out, they left their two kids, both under 2, in the car in the p...

  19. Are all floor nurses rude to ER nurses?

I feel angry at times at the transporter, but I know they have a job to do. I don't feel it is appropriate to slam the floor with admissions at change of shift: we had three the other day roll on up at 0705 (perfect timing). i understand the ER is fu...
  20. Help me Obi Wan

In my state being a CNA is not required if you want to go into nursing school. Several hosp. in my area take new grads. to mold them in the ER and other units. My question for you is why take the nursing route if your long term plan is to be a PA. Th...
