Cheerfuldoer, I thought you were relocating to Indy? I know it's not that warm there! I wanted to ask you about some hospitals because 2 of my kids go to Indiana Wesleyan in Marion. God bless whereever you are. Lynn

I agree with Ren. If you do home health full time, 80% of work is paper (computer) work. Alot of regulations. Many changes. Home health is complicated.

Our pastor visited a male church member shortly after being admitted to our small rural hospital. The patient told the pastor he had "unstable vangina."

We use the ClinDoc program. It was terrible at 1st, much better now (after 2 years). The laptops are heavy, and very unrealistic to take them into the homes. We were forced to continue to use the program, even though we all went crazy trying to learn...
I searched this forum and only found 1 thread on acuity system for home care. Could other home care nurses give me an idea of how your work load is kept equitable? Any ideas would be helpful. Our workload is not even, and management has no idea what ...
I took chemistry at Roberts Wesleyan (in Rochester, NY) that was specifically for health care profesionals. Probably it was alot easier than the chemistry your school requires. The professor was great (Jay, can't remember his last name). Since I was ...
I was very excited to hear about a travel position in a small town in Colorado near where I have relatives living. I emailed my resume and skills list and spoke with the recruiter. She said the only thing I needed to do was interview with the hospita...
I do home care and at times we are unable to get the specimen to the lab right away, sometimes more than 2 hours, and I have never had a specimen hemolize. I don't see a problem drawing blood from a saline lock. If it was a hep lock you would have to...

I work in rural NYS for a county agency and have a company car. On average I travel about 80-100 miles per day, usually 4-7 patients per day. Nice to have a company car.

Sorry Nance. You may want to read a few more posts on the home health section. I believe Rusty has another job. Home health is not easy. If you can master the paper work, you'll be fine. It's a different kind of stress than hospital nursing, but defi...

Probably nobody's answering you because nobody can shed any light! We had a teleconference presented by Diane Odel (not sure if the last name is spelled right) from Beacon Health. She's very knowledgeable and good at explaining, but I still don't hav...

At the University of Rochester in New York, there is a program for people with a Bachelor's degree who can get their RN in 1 year. I have heard of other programs like this around the country. It's one intensive year I've heard.
Waggy-2, Where is your hospital? Do they need nurses? I live about 90 miles south of Buffalo in the southern tier, near Olean. I have worked at a rural hospital, but they no longer have an ICU or OR. I presently work as a home health nurse for a coun...
