    Baltimore Nurses

I am off duty but we were warned last week about having alternate routes as one of the main highways comes into town near the police stn with protestors. Regrettably some of those routes for me are through danger zones, or use mass transit which is a...

    RN Pay in Orlando

I am a native Floridian but live up north for that reason. Add in poor to extremely poor ratios, the seasonality of work (frequent low census/floating off season, and working your fingers off during the "Season". That and many of the issues that occ...

    RN Pay in Orlando

Generally much lower than the West coast. I know nurses with 16 yrs experience being offered 26-28/hr plus differential for fulltime with benefits in some of the hospitals in central FL, but it should be a bit more in Orlando.

    Dilute Urine Question

As a note, there can be a number of reasons for drinking excess fluid for a urine test. As a traveler, many assignments required drug and/or alcohol screening. I have a "bashful bladder" issue, so drank a significant amount of fluid, and set out in ...

Nursing care of ADN vs BSN

I never realized Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health, were nursing homes. And to think that I had surgery in a nursing home.

Nursing care of ADN vs BSN

Bluntly, their degree has little to nothing to do with their decision making ability - their intelligence and critical thinking ability does. And that has little to nothing to do with their degree.

    Cannabis, the cure all?

So is exercise, weight loss, and eating right. Yet people manage to avoid those. Or you can just substitute dark chocolate for wine. Though while wine is legal, I like a nice chocolate infused wine.

Starting to think there should be some limits...

Regrettably, many of us use the newest/active threads, so it brings up everything. The threads also often have deceptive titles.

    Loan forgiveness options? Help!

First, many Southerners speak quite plainly, and I have found quite a few Yankees (not referring to the baseball team) that tiptoe delicately around the minefield of harsh truth. Now, to the OP, as an RN now getting a BSN, how did you rack up 60k deb...

Starting to think there should be some limits...

Regrettably, often nursing instructors may ask them to post about an issue such as "ADN vs BSN", on a nursing bulletin board. At which I ask their instructor's name and contact data, so that I can explain why this is inappropriate, unacceptable and ...

    Most surprising/shocking/interesting thing you've seen

A patient's tongue (necrotic) fell out while they were brushing their teeth. I never realized how large a person's complete tongue was until then. Necrosing sinus cancer having eaten away someone's nose, sinuses and into the brain. It was a terribl...

    Should Nurses know procedural costs?

I believe that nurses should know a ballpark idea of what procedures and costs of meds and supplies common to one's area are. It helps a great deal in discharge - getting prescriptions early for problem meds or services, and making alternative arran...

    Unwanted transition

Let's say you have been working there a long time, know all the routines, the pts love you, you have everything set up the way that you like it, like the MD, etc. Then one day, you get hit by a drunk driver. Not your fault, but you have to be off f...

Likelihood of a new grad getting an ER job?

FL has a high demand????? for nurses. It depends on the speciality, time of year, type of facility and job. Plenty of nursing home jobs, seasonal hospital jobs and part time jobs, perhaps. New grad jobs in a hospital, fulltime, year round.... Not so...

    question about post op mastectomy

Option 2, though both are problematic. Option 1 is incorrect, because those are not the appropriate exercises for a mastectomy pt immediately postop. Postop 24-48 hrs, they had me doing shoulder shrugs, then graduated to bring my arms up to shoulder...

    Euthanasia. Murder or Mercy?
