RN to BSN online
I would love to hear what you think of the program. This thread was so helpful to me because I was thinking about doing this within the next 1-2 years. I am a new grad just passed boards 2 months ago so I need a break. kudos to you for doing it all at once!! This one sounds like about the best to me too. Because of the cost and living right beside the sate (even though I won;t have to travel)

NCLEX-PN, Anyone fail @ 85 q's?
I think your odds of passing with 85 are much better then failing with 85. Good luck to you both! I'm betting you passed!

NCLEX no math questions????
Livin my dream, I too felt like they were equally hard with the exception of a few 2 or 3 easy questions. I think that is a good sign that you passed. I too felt like I failed. I swore I did. I took the RN and passed with 75. I walked out telling my husband I am a genius or I failed miserably. (certain that I failed and not sure what to do next) I also had no math questions at all. just a ton of med ones. Good luck to you but I beleive 85 is a really good sign! My cousin just took the PN and passed with 85!

Need CNA info
I just wanted to send a big thank you to all of you CNA's! I am a new grad from an RN program and I work with some WONDERFUL CNA's. At the hospital i did clinical at they weren't so great but at the LTC facility I am working at they are just the best! The CNA's make you or break you! It is a tough job you have and I feel like sometimes the RN's don't treat them as they should, they don;t realize how valuable you are! As well as to the pts because you get so much more interaction with them then other nurses. I just wish I would have worked as a CNA first, I would know so much more now!

Why dont we get respect as LTC nurses?
I have been wondering the same thing! I am a new grad and applied a few places in our local hospital. I had always wanted to work in OB but did not get hired. I am 7 months pg right now, and 6 months when I interviewed. This is my 3rd child and I understand why someone would not hire me. Partially out of desperation I took a job at a nursing home. One my grandparents were residents at. I love the people, the staff, the DON she keeps it running so well! She always knows what is going on and keeps the facility in great order. Starting pay is only 90 cents /hour less then the hospital. I am liking it very well so far, but when telling people where I work they say, "you have to start somewhere" or "I'm sorry" or "that will get your foot in the door" and I am just feeling terrible about that. I think I will start telling people what I do by saying, "I have the privelage of being able to take care of the elderly". What I have found, is we can have pts for years and they go to the hospital for a week or two and come back with the starts of or total decub. My father was in the hospital after a car accident and then a corrective surgery that went bad and left him a tetraplegic. After 1 month he had such a bad bed sore and had to have a flap replacement. Our residents at the nursing home do NOT get bed sores. I also really like the 8 hour shifts instead of 12 hour shifts. I am so thankful to be hired being so close to the end of my pregnancy and I foundthat taking this different path is one I will love, I may not go to ob after a years experience here. Contrary to what the rest of the world thinks I should do! So to you I say congrats on being able to have the honor of taking care of the aging and sometimes dying. It is very different from hospital care but I enjoy the pts!

moving to Rapid City, anyone live there?
I live in Rapid City and I just graduated from USD here in RC. It is a 2 year program. SDSU is a 4 year, if I could do it over I would do the 4 year BSN it is only 1 nursing sememster longer, and requires more prereq's but its worth it and I have heard a rumor that our hospital is wanting to hire mostly BSN's instead of AD's, and next to no LPN's get hired. I hope you like it here in the Black Hills! I have lived here all my life and I love it! THere is so much to do, as it is a tourist trap!

Are any new grads finding jobs??
I live in SD and have not been hired on at the hospital which I assumed was just a guarentee because of the "shortage" even according to working nurses, there isn;t enough help. Our hospital employees about 2700 people so its not tiny...out of my program of 50 grads, 5 were hired. Felt like my education was a waste. I was 6 months pg when I started interviewing so i thought that was why, but no one has been getting hired. I am now working at a nursing home. All I get when i say that is the "oh I'm sorry approach, or you have to start somewhere" truth is so far I don;t mind it. Its the aides I feel sorry for! They work soooo hard. The paychecks are

75 Questions on NCLEX, pass or fail?
I swore I failed. It shut of at 75 questions and I was begging for more. I truly thought there is no way i am that smart to get 75 questions and pass so I had to have failed. I felt like i guessed on every question. I looked at this site and it made me feel a little better because it appeared that more people passed at 75 then failed. and sure enought I found out today that I PASSED@! The shock has not yet worn off! hope it hits me soon!
