  1. All the readings!!

I took a speed reading class and I am so glad I did. Now, I speed read the chapter and make a mark next to the important things I need to come back to. It still takes forever to go through 11 chapters!
  2. Just LISTEN to the instructor!

I wish I had the nerve to suggest something like this to my instructors! Maybe I should tell the student rep and she can relay the idea.
  3. I am in my last year of Associate Degree. I got rid of everything except my Pharm book because I have a book that is much easier for me to access info and learn from (Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice). You should have a good skills book availabl...
  4. LPN to RN programs

Are you willing to move somewhere else for a few years until you finish school? I know there are programs available but I haven't seen any that are online. I hope you find something.
  5. Every other weekend- what century are we in?

I can understand how EOW interferes with life in general. I have a husband and 4 kids. My DH also works shifts but has to work EVERY w/end. My kids are getting the raw end of this deal because with both of us working w/ends no one is available to tak...
  6. Thank you, nurse.

Thank you to all of the nurses who go to work with the mindset of doing the best job they can. You are not only taking care of your pts, you are taking care of us newbie nurses who are watching how you act and react, and we are soaking it up. I am a ...
  7. Fee before getting license???

I imagine it depends on your state. I had to pay the testing fee and the license fee. If you have sent money to the testing center and to the state BON, you should be fine. Where did it say something about an additional fee?
  8. I'm going to remember that one!
  9. LTC Issues and unemployment

Did you tell someone that you quit or did you just not show up for work and assume you were fired?
  10. New Nurse getting bullied at work

compassionate 1, I have only been a nurse for a few weeks and had an absolutely horrible day yesterday. Everything you were talking about, I can relate to. I've only worked at the place for 13 days and had to leave a meeting yesterday because I could...
  11. New LVN Orientation....I need Help

Is this your first job? I got 3 days of orientation and felt comfortable doing the hands on part of the job, BUT the charting, calling family, docs, etc will take me months to figure out! You will likely be doing a lot of the work and the person trai...
  12. Charting Wounds

Can anyone help me find descriptive words for narrative charting? Yesterday I had to chart a wound that looked like it had been there for several days but had gone unnoticed. When I sat down to chart, I drew a blank. Couldn't put down on paper what i...
  13. Charting Wounds

Thanks finch. That is the kind of charting I need to figure out how to do. Hopefully, I will get better with practice.
  14. I can't believe she said that

Some people are just rude, no matter what their education level.
  15. 3 day orientation for new LPN

I will be starting my first job as a nurse on Friday! YAY!!! I called HR today to ask what my schedule would be. She said I would train for 2 days on the day shift and 1 day on evenings and then I will be on my own. I don't know if this is normal f...
  16. I Passed !!!!!thank God

Congratulations! I recently passed, too. Do you have a job waiting or are you going to go hit the pavement and find one? Good luck to you.
  17. 3 day orientation for new LPN

Well, I just finished my first day on my own. It was good. I probably forgot to do a few things and I'm sure I did something wrong but all in all I thought I did a good job. All of my pts are Alz/Dem and it was challenging to reorient and distract a...
  18. How was LPN school for you?

This is a really common thought among a lot of nurses I talk with. You have to go through school to be a nurse. Plain and simple. Get as much out of it as you can, be prepared to teach yourself, and do what it takes to make it through. I hope you ha...
  19. My Great First Day

I have been looking forward to my first day as a nurse for so long. Today was the day and it was really good! I was so intimidated about this job because it is in a nursing home and, in general, they are notoriously difficult places to work. But I le...
  20. Using Prior Edition Textbooks?

The only thing that was different in my A&P book between the new and old edition was the pictures and page numbers. Get the old version and make friends with the person you sit next to so you can check page numbers and double check any assignment...
  21. Clinical Cheat Sheet

Most of the time during clinicals last year, I felt lost, like I should know what everything means but had no clue. So I have been thinking all summer about what would make my day go more smoothly this year. One thing that I think will really help me...
  22. Baltimore lady trying to decide on LPN

I don't have any knowledge of nursing on the east coast but I do know how scary it is to think about career change when you have kids at home. What you do not only affects your life but your kids' lives, too. Here in the Midwest, there are quite a f...
  23. Opinions on Kaplan...

By pre-reqs, do you mean Anatomy, Physiology, Algebra, Chemestry, Ethics, etc.? If you already have your pre-reqs done from somewhere other than Kaplan, you should be ok to go on to get your BSN. I know UNMC has an LPN to BSN program but there are qu...
  24. CNA cert. for a LPN?

Once my LPN license was issued, my CNA was "null and void". I received a letter from the state to advise me of the change. Also, when I checked my LPN status on the state website, I could see the null and void status for my CNA. I'm sure it is someth...
  25. I'm so happy for you. I have to admit I keep coming back here to read your original post because I just started my first job. I hope you won't have any crazy days like this at your new facility. :wink2:
