  1. my question is who is billed for this ??? or does the hospital pick up the tab weather it returns positive or negative; most assuradly it probably passed onto the consumer. it seems that the hospital has not done enough to teach their staff so they can inform patients of why this procedure is a necessity and the pros and cons of having it done. i personally think i would decline if asked.
  2. the problem is not illness excuses - the problem lies in "mandatory" over time; administration should either hire more staff or limit "services"; to demand that people must work over a 40 hour work week is archaic. it sounds like the work environment in which you and your co-workers are in is highly stressful. technically, i think they (the corporation) want to cover their butts because if a person has a true illness or disability and the corporation took it upon themselves to force the mot upon the worker a suit could be field against them.
  3. sadly, the nurse that let him read the chart should be turned in for the hippa violation; the boyfriend has no legal right to read the chart. as for the husband with the gun - the hospital should have never permitted him back in the hospital - he may not have a gun but he could have a knife! what were they thinking?:lol_hitti
  4. Teen pregnancy is the "norm" on the Rez. When I first worked there many years ago I was shocked but then finally understood I was placing my "norms" on a different culture and society. When my daughter was 19 and working at "Bats" she came home one day and said to me, "Mom, I am the only one who doesn't have a kid." Pine Ridge is a very harsh place to live but the Lakota people are very strong and face hardship each day and they are very family oriented.
  5. hi! you should contact the don of pine ridge ihs; the main number is (605) 867-5131. they may be able to help any questions you have.
  6. :cat:thanks pageantnurse yep. it seem's she couldn't stand the heat so she got out of the kitchen! why she even responded to a travel nurse question or concern with no experience of ever being a traveler is beyond me. plus whom ever she works for does not hire travelers so how can she judge the compentency of one? it just irks me. ~candida~
  7. "there is a lot of hostility in what is statistical fact. it is not my right to judge what the figures show." what happened karen? i have been waiting to be enlightened on your "statiscal facts" and yet you still have failed to prove your point. just name the journal or article you claim to recieve your fact based knowledge on and i will be happy to look it up. :prdnrs: ~candida~
  8. well, again from the staff versus travel issue - back in the day (oh late 80's early '90's) i worked with a nurse (staff) who was a bsn and she thought aminophylline and ampicillin were the same drug....go figure - not sure if she could start her own iv's though' - we had iv teams back then; ~candida~
  9. "perhaps if you took off your wings and stayed put you'd learn that you owe this to the profession." the wonderful think about being an american is the ablity to have a differnces of opinion; i do not agree with your statement. i have been both staff and travel nurse - both have offered me unique nursing opportunities. taking off my wings and staying put literally makes me a bird in a cage and i like freedom. i owe it to my profession to keep an open heart, an apt ear and an inquiring mind to all the opportunities that will present themselves during my nursing career. had i not "flown the coop" and started to "travel" i would never had the opportunity to work and live in germany (as well as see europe at a leisurely pace). so you may spout statistics (which by the way you haven't backed up) but i do believe you are in error. ~candida~
  10. " then we must end these overpaid and alienating positions." oh gosh karen bsn!!!! you really mean getting rid of the ceo's and the underlying facia of it's support??? that would be great! as a current "staff" nurse (although, sadly no i am not "married to my employer, i like to consider myself a "free" agent) and as a former but could -be- any -day- now travel nurse i am never overpaid!!! in fact i am not paid enough!!!. shouldn't i be paid what i am worth? as for travel nurses being unsafe - care to share an article to that effect??? back up what you say??? being a staff nurse in general can be unsafe due to high patient ratios, poor staffing, poor working conditions and mandatory overtime. ciao! candida
  11. imho, the only way for change to happen is through legislation; when colorado nurses have had enough of high acuity, high patient ratio's, mandatory overtime, no lunch breaks, etc. maybe they will request their political leaders to takeaction. sadly, mangement will never change.
