  1. Hi! I am on a really unique clinical placement at present, in which I have to work with other students from other fields like OT and student Doctors, just wondering if any nurses out there could possibly give me some ideas on how to enhance teamwork with the doctors etc, we have literally been thrown onto this ward and the students are more or less responsible for the daily planning of care for all the patients, I am not too familiar with how doctors and nurses can enhance team work between each other as ive never been put in this situation before, any ideas would be much appreciated!!
  2. Now I can really help, I don't personally like the essay they have set you as everything sounds a bit too much like a sales pitch, not your fault really as this is pretty much what they have asked for and as we all know, nursing is not about sales. You have to get out of the trap of using "I" "I did this" "I did that" too many "I" not good, try to reword somethings to avoid using " I " if you can do this, I think some of your content is pretty good, but some things appear irrelevant like the part where you reformatted and typed out icu's policies and procedures..
  3. I am only a student but some of the best memories I have had have come from the emotional thank yous from patients. I could not choose a favourite but the one which stands out most in my mind is when a 17 year old kid rang back to the ward to personally thank me for spending time talking to him. What was great about this was that I was talking to him about the drugs that he had been using, but not in a patronising way. The communication methods I used and the things I said to him worked. It is for moments like that, that I chose to do nursing.
  4. Thinking while sober. HAHAHAHAHA just kidding!!!! To me it means analysing information and forming my own opinion about that information.
  5. You essay appears to be a lot more like a covering letter for a job application, if this is what your examiners have asked for then it looks pretty fine to me, however, reading through it one would think that you will eventually become the perfect nurse, perhaps add something in it to say that you are not perfect and do not know everything about nursing yet, and have much to learn but are willing to learn what you don't yet know. Again though, the actual essay question would be of a lot more help.
  6. Thats true, but what if people who are assesssing me are reading this post, they would blatanly know it was me who is crying out for help as there are not that many male student Nurses called Shane doing a particaular assignment on a particular subject and would then point their fingers at me on campus and laugh and then proceed to give me an F. Well I guess I could be overreacting theres no harm in asking for help.. Ok basically I need help on Communication skills in Nursing.. Verbal and Non Verbal and its effectiveness while undertaking any type of care. I have already done a mountain of research on this and I am more or less ready to put pen to paper but I know there is always more to learn.. So any input would be much appreciated.

  9. There is ageism in Nursing, I am a student and I get treated like an amatuer. But I am an amatuer so maybe I'm wrong.

I don't think anyone should be forced to wear make up unless they were extraordinarily ugly.. HAHAHAHAH Just kidding. No I don't think it is fair that people are being forced to wear make up. But I do find it really, really funny that someone actually has to audacity to make that kind of a demand HAHAHAAHAHAHAHA

  12. Thanks Daytonite that was a great help, really opened my mind, I guess i am going to have to work on different kinds of communication, it is really hard to do when you have to remain professional at all times, its all very new to me, but I want to succeed at this so I am going to learn as much as I can about communication. Thanks again.
  13. Corticosteroids can b used to treat asthma i think.
  14. ok Thx I gues your right onnly reason I was worried is cos I see a lot of the real nurses talking while they do things like this.
  15. Hi im a student and my communication with patients is deficient in many areas; in some scenarios like I find it really hard to do things like taking blood pressure etc and still have to communicate with the patient as I am totally focused on getting the right reading, pls help!!!!!! any tips on how I can overcome this I know communication is very important but I find it really hard to do when I am also trying to do something else if you understand me, HELP!!!!! thx
  16. I don't think nursing should be about the nurses, it should be about the patients, regardless of your own personal beliefs.
